Cockpit view audio sounds too muffled

It’s all really nasaly on a Dolby Atmos rig. Drives me nuts. All I hear is that like 1.5 - 2.5khz range blasting me in the face. Like I hear a droid Fran Drescher voicing all the car audio through autotune with a flanger on top.

I think this is more of a nice to have feature than a problem. I’ve never noticed this effect in any forza game and I don’t think it’s intended behavior in this one. What they’re saying is that they want the car interiors to be noisier when weight reduction is applied. Like all the car sound deadening material is removed.

The thing I’m talking about is actually a problem. I have a hard time playing this without engaging my AVR EQ with at least -8dB at 1khz and 2khz. I also have discovered that surround modes don’t work correctly unless I, while the game is running and every time I change cars ( tedious and annoying if I want to use a bunch of different cars in a session ), go to xbox settings > Select another surround mode > immediately select the surround mode I want to use ( in my case Dolby Atmos for Home Theater ). When I go back to the game the dynamic range is increased and mostly correct. Horizon 5 used to have this issue and I think I got them to fix it a while back. If I did or not, it’s been fixed.

The audio mixes still sound pretty compressed and/or limited though and that’s why I have to engage my AVR EQ. Squashed. Like the master bus is pushed too hot. Sounds like it’s mastered like a pop song. Should be mastered like a movie.

I have no footage of that. Please check your product for yourself guys. When i modify a stock car(no matter wich one btw) with race-weight reduction it is not doing anything to the in-car sound. A car modified to race on a track has no sound dampening at all. It should be more raw, you hear stones thrown at you car from cars ahead or when you go off track and stuff, its way more loud and rowdy in reality. Also the exhaust sound with racing exhaust equipped is far from reality for every single car i got so far. The sound in this game is really tame to say the least and you guys should consider redoing it “from the ground up” maybe.:slightly_smiling_face:

PS:please give us an option to choose from a variety of blow off valves. Some sound just atrocious.

It’s a mess. Even when you do an engine swap from a V8 racing engine, cockpit insulation is gone in your road car as if you’re driving without the roof and doors or from a striped to the bone race car.

Cockpit audio really needs an overhaul. It’s all over the place. The correct level of insulation needs to be relayed for each car in order to create appropriate levels of bass, rumble, vibration, resonance, etc.

I would love, I mean LOVE for them to do a sound overhaul, even if it adds a good 80-100gb to the game, I don’t care.

The car audio is by far the worse aspect of the game.

I agree. The rain sound in the cockpit is also extremely horrible, sounds like a bad Bluetooth connection.
also I don’t think the formula Mazda 2015 is correct either, as this is an f1 car should it not sound to me all high pitched like a mosquito? I’m an audio phyle, and very very picky I wouldl love an audio overhaul as well.

I would like their team to do extensive research not just on YT for the car specific sounds but also other games to understand how dynamic range is applied to e.g. cars, bikes, or aeroplanes.

If the audio team sits down with a game like FS2020 e.g. they’ll find that the dynamic range is something that can make or break a game. Example: the deafening roar of an F-16 Falcon or F-14 Tomcat. That’s dynamic range at work! You truly get a sense of how loud, visceral and ferocious these birds must sound IRL because clearly the third party Devs for those aircrafts did their homework.

I don’t understand why they can’t hire a third party team dedicated to car sounds and car passion to get the sound right. It would sell more of the game so it’s a great investment and a good strategy. It might even bring back those who have abandoned the game.

They can easily make this the best sounding Forza. They’ve got the budget to do it. I don’t care how long it takes to give every car the love and justice it deserves. As long as they do it.

Thr issue 200% persists because it seems you guys are not doing much to improve the sounds.

A. Do some research and nail the unique sound for each car, stock and upgraded. Hey, PG did it, why can’t you?

B. Make sure the proper sound balancing/mixing and dynamic range is applied to cockpit, first person and third person views. When in cockpit, it should sound like there is insulation and materials around me, it shouldn’t sound too muffled, muddled, and ‘tiny’ while echoey at the same time, as if the car is revving in a bathroom. The first person should have the engine sound louder while the chase cam should have the full-on exhaust characteristics.

Things were coming along nicely in FM 7 - you guys could have literally used the same samples and improve upon those.

As a customer, I am downright fuming at how cheaply the sound has been done in this game.

Also, with due respect, please stop pretending that you don’t know what’s wrong with your game’s car sounds. Just stop. It’s getting old.

Basically what I have been trying to explain through the topics and yet the devs fail to get it. I hope they do their work properly this time because I have CREATED MANY SOUND TOPICS AND I DON’T want to be shattered again.

I don’t think it’s a matter of the “devs not getting it” but rather the devs not wanting to do anything about it - for now - or pershaps do something at a later stage.

As usual, radio silence. There was an uproar about the bad sounds in FM7 until they were forced to apply the proper mixing and dynamic range to the car sounds to make them sound large, loud, impactful, and soulful, so to speak. They also updated specific cars with updated sounds which has been one of the best updates in FM history! I think it was April 2018 or 2019, but that sound update made the game 100% more enjoyable.

Hoping they will do the same with this Forza game although I understand implementing such a process takes time.

If the game truly is a “game as a service” product, then we should expect to see lots of car audio updates in the coming months and years.

I really don’t want them to work on another FM game but just focus on improving this one. I think it can be a pretty incredible product in 1-2 years and beyond.

I agree with this 100%. The engine and exhaust sounds seem muted and flat all around. They don’t need to be abnormally loud but I don’t feel like I’m in a race car. Load in to a Ferrari expecting that insane v12 scream but it’s just very muted. I’d also like to hear more turbo spool.

After Update 8 certain vehicles in the game when in the interior view or interior no wheel view you can barely here your own engine, all the other sounds like A.I engines, environment etc completely overpower the players engine.

There was nothing in the Update Notes to suggest that any changes have been made so started this thread to see if it’s a widespread issue.

There is a workaround by changing all the other sounds to be lower but when you change views your engine sound outside the vehicle is way to loud and you have to go and change them back.

One vehicle that you can test out is the Ford GT500 '20

I also notice that players were commenting that the Ginetta G40 Junior was plagued by this issue

Vote at the top if this affects you

Try this instead. The car mixes are starting to sound much better. Closer to 1:1 with the actual cars they’re meant to simulate. Including this GT500 you mention ( Tho it could use a bit more dynamic range. The engine isn’t as impactful as it should be ). I’ve driven one and this cockpit sounds pretty close to how it should. Instead of tinkering with these car audio mixes, fix the levels of everything else. That is the issue here, not the car audio. The levels of all the other sounds are too loud when in cockpit view. They’re not being simulated accurately. We shouldn’t hear the opponent cars as loud as they are. Tire squeels as loud as they are. Ambience as loud as it is. Etc etc.

You also need to include info about your setup. What platform you’re on. What your speakers are. Etc etc. DO NOT get them to make changes that negatively affect surround systems.

Be VERY careful with what you ask them to do.

PC W10 MS Store Standard Ed
Speakers Logitech Z623 2.1

The sound only changed in Update 8

Lucky you for being able to drive the GT500 IRL

Wouldn’t dream of it, they should really have the choice for different setups in the Audio Settings

It does persist after the update. Most cockpit sounds in the game are muffled or suppressed.

So you want me to provide a video of EVERY car in the game that has muffled and “far away” audio?

No thanks, that’s up to you guys. I’m not a beta tester.

No, i don’t have the time to make a video of everything wrong in this game.
This would take days or weeks to do.
You guys are getting payed to do this, not us. So please do your job, research, find videos, go on track in game and irl and figure this out. Don’t ask the customers to do your job so you can sit in your office and getting payed for simply existing.
We payed for the product, so we can expect you to do your job right or we don’t buy your next release.

Have a nice day
