I just played this game for the first time since the latest update was implemented, and I’ve noticed that the steering wheel no longer shakes in first-person. Just wondering why this feature—which was added in Forza 4—was removed. It looks like Forza 3 now, where the steering wheel is completely still when driving straight.
It isn’t supposed to shake like that IRL unless you’re going really fast on a very bumpy track, in gravel or grass or have some kind of alignment issue going on! I always found it odd as these cars have technologies going into the steering system to make it smooth and stable.
Check your motion effects setting.
The fastest I’ve gone IRL is 290 km/h in a friend’s modded WRX Impreza. On a flat out road there is no shaking in the wheel, trust me. It may happen on track when you’re experimenting with different suspension set ups or dealing with a fair amount of bumps and camber. The forced and random shaking that you used to see in Forza is to give you the illusion that the driver is making constant corrections to keep the car’s trajectory where it needs to be. However, not much sense in shaking it like that on a straight, is there?
If only Forza’s cockpit animation was like that of an actual car, you’d be seeing the same intricate corrections on the wheel if you were using a gaming wheel to play the game. Unfortunately, the cockpit wheel only moves 90 degrees on either side, so the developers probably thought it best to have an artificial shake to make it more exciting and boost immersion a little.
Yeah, it was definitely exaggerated, but it looks even more unnatural when you’re going over 200 MPH with the steering wheel (and the driver’s hands) completely still.
I’ve already checked the settings, and nothing has been changed. The “camera motion effects” are still on.
Perhaps there was a miniscule update to the animations itself and in doing so a bug was created.
I’ve never understood why when in cockpit view, and you look behind you, the view isn’t from inside the car looking out the rear window, and where that’s not possible, from the rear external looking over or through the spoiler.
Most of the time the gear changes are out of sync if you change gears quickly as well. There are all sorts of little things that could be improved.
