What I really don’t understand is how this game could be shipped without a “Time Attack” mode. Racing against the clock is one of the oldest and best racing modes. And here we are, unable to race alone. It’s impossible to test times on sprints because the AI will always interfere.
The whole “why have a racing game in an open world if we can have an open world dress-up game with cars” design route was a huge mistake. Sacrificing your legacy in the hope of appealing to a larger audience? Always a bad decision. Forza will never reach sales of Fortnite, GTA, CoD, Fifa… as hard as you want to try. Even Gran Turismo in its best days couldn’t compete with shooters or GTA.
Just stick with the thing you’re good at and fullfill your visions in that frame. RDR2 showed how to successfully implement a vision without mimicking trending stuff just for the sake of it being trendy.
Making video games is an expensive business. Like any business, your revenue has to be higher than your costs or you go bust. If character customisation is popular then you have to cater for it. Even RDR2 has plenty of “dress up dolly”. Horizon games have always been cheesy arcade racers. FH4 is exactly that.
As if they would go bust if they would mainly focus on the racing experience.
The question of including trendy features should be if it fits the game, not because it’s trendy.
Character customization in RDR2? No problem because the game revolves around a character.
Character customization in a game where cars have the majority of screen time? Maybe. In the way Horizon 4 does it it just feels tacked on because it’s popular and not because it adds much.
You don’t see lootboxes in RDR2. In Horizon 4 they make up most of the progression. And of course with the standard ugly tiering system. Just to take out the last bit of seriousness.
rdr2 have allready almost 20m copies saled without trying any trend stuff just by livering everyone what they except rdr2 will be. Horizon 4 have somethink like 3 million player but how many of those are gamepass players. And it feels that PG focus their developing game that way so all those who play forza first time via gamepass would enjoy to game. But now it’s feel they have made it that way so long time forza players feels dissapointed, like comparing against fh3 it’s older game but it deliver so mutch more stuff to do so you could spent easily hundreads of hours without never wondering what i can do next, in fh4 i was allready after 50 hours “mmm what i should do next” and not in good way. And week ago i have even bigger what i should do next moment when i got my last missing car. Seasonal content are great but those arent enough end game to keep playining all the time, those make forza game where you visit once a week to do all weekly stuff and rest of the week spent time with other games. And this game should be game that you can play 2-3 years, i cant when this game lack so mutch end game.
Thanks everyone for their contributions and support, but let’s not lose the main focus of this thread. It’s not here to discuss the merits of the reward system or clothing/emotes.
I would like PG to understand that one section of the Forza community, the Builders/Tuners have not been catered for in this game, to the detriment of everyone else.
Agreed. And if I was the one that loosened the wheel on the hand cart so to speak bringing up the clothes and emotes, my bad. It’s just my belief that these “trendy” things are what has replaced the important things. Such as class based rivals. Total loss of direction.
Good and valid point as such, as tuners are the ones who benefit the most from class-based rivals. I’d add to that that it’s a bit of a shame how the game seems to downplay time trial racing in general. Not a lot of people play the featured rivals events, they’re kinda tucked away in a separate menu, not promoted at all, there’s no seasonal content associated with them etc. Despite the events being curated like they are, it mostly seems like an afterthought. The way that the previous Horizon games kept reminding you about rivals made it feel like it was more of an integral part of the game as a whole.
Route creator is kind of useless for me as it is, because I only want to time trial those custom routes without any drivatar shenanigans. I’m not a tuner at all, I’m actually perfectly happy just taking a stock car through a route alone, and class-based leaderboards are still sort of the best possible way to enable that. There are people right now wondering what’s the best way to just “test” their cars, since there’s no obvious, natural way to do that in the game. I really wish this is something that will be addressed in a future update.
Testing is no problem, it’s easy to compare one of your own builds/tunes against another, you just can’t compare against other people. I create a custom blueprint for 5 laps, anything goes for type of car, but the class is set to what I want to test. Then I race it and note my best lap time. Each time I want to test a new build/tune I drive the same custom event I created.
I have do this on every car so i take it next step and will drive all circuits at 10 laps of each car, that is only thing this moment that keep me still playing. I know after that which one my cars is fastest one but i have no clue how good my tunes are against other peoples and other tunes that other peoples have make. So we definetly need to way to test our tunes, it’s just our tuners benefit but also everyone else benefit that downloads tunes.
The fact is that there is currently no incentive to build the lower class cars. If the game had class based leaderboards for every event we builder/tuners would be more than happy to continue playing until the launch of FM8. How long will it take Playground Games to acknowledge that one full section of the community will be lost to Horizon games?
Yes that is sad but true that it’s pretty meaningless to build lower class cars (i have shared this moment totally 7 d/c class tunes, in fh3 i have at least 7 d-class tunes byself). I can totally agree that in this state of game there is no motivation keep playining so long that fm8 will come or fh5 because i like horizon series more than motorsport. And like rayne se just say it feels that pg dont even care abaout tuners or hotlappers (and overall it feels they dont care what community wants, they do their own stuff and try to force users to like that, fm7 and fh4 rivals and fh4 multiplayer are good excample of that).
I really enjoy when i moment ago tested my c600 jeep cj5 on rivals (only c600 rival event that is made for open c class) and got decent spot on leaderboard with car that almost nobody else isnt use, but my moment of happiness was gone really really quickly because i cant take it on next track that would fit better with that car (there is so many fence in that track and cj5 is not really good driving thruw those).
And we still havent got any response any forza member on this topic.
The main question is if they care about it. After FM7 and Horizon 4 I start to believe T10/PG do not. Rivals seems to be way down the priority list. A real shame because building, tuning & testing cars for every class and terrain was always my favourite thing to do in Horizon. Currently investing time in D,C and B class is just a waste. A,S1,S2 is also not very motivating because of the lack of choice in Rivals.
For me, the hotlapping competitions were what kept me returning to FH3 every week for two full years. And it was only the existence of class-based leaderboards that enabled them to run for so long. I’m already finding that I start up FH4 and wonder what to do – unfortunately many aspects of the game have already lost their ‘newness’ and are unexciting, or have issues of some sort. Even with the first expansion about to arrive I don’t see anywhere near the longevity of FH3 without full rivals coming back.
.
Just checking in for the status on PG’s response, yet, it appears there is no update. This will be very disappointing to this game and its community if we can not get a SW update to include a solids Rivals mode per classes (Time Attack).
I find theres too much of a shove towards S2/X class cars, everything is geared around the biggest number outright, its either people using glitches and exploits to simply cheat to number 1, ors its S2/X thats its
Im not an S2/X driver i only use an S1 car (an 880ish trans am) for my forza lives then am back into my A B or C cars but they dont factor into anything. I cant set a good speed, i cant make a good jump, i cant do a good drift (ok that one is legit cause i hate drifting) all because I dont play how the game says I have too if i ever want to be a thing, ever
At least in FH3 there was a chance i could do multiplayer races in my Sub S cars, though obviously jumps drifts and speed traps were all uber cars still
We are taking all feedback and information here into consideration, especially as we have seen Rivals appear as a common discussion topic.
The team understand that especially following this thread, that player would like a change in Rivals or for a similar aspect to Forza Horizon 3 to make a return.
We hope to improve Rivals, but it is still under discussion and therefore at this present time I haven’t any information to disclose. But we appreicate everything suggested,
I advised the support page as this allows us to track and keep a close watch on everything whilst noting any similar requests.
This is retros message 4 months ago in this thread. Now 4 months later we have got ZERO word from devs abaout rivals mode and even less we have got any changes or improves.
So team understand we want changes but dont care at all making those changes. This is so good example abaout all the nice talking how PG wants to make game better for anybody but that’s all just nice talking without actions. So PG if you really care abaout your player base and really want to improve game for all of us how abaout actually making some changes we players want.
