Cheating AI

My apologies if this has been approached before, but I wondered if anyone else had witnessed AI drivatars missing checkpoints during races? It’s happened a few times that I’ve seen, but the AI drivatars don’t get penalised for doing this, just me. I’m not massively upset though, just seemed a bit inconsistent. If AI miss a checkpoint, they should be reset, not just be allowed to carry on their merry way. Also, what’s up with them slowing down/braking suddenly as soon as they’re directly in front of you, even on straight sections? Lost many a skill chain because of this.

Anyway, just my two-cents worth. Swapping between this and FM7 now so plenty to keep me occupied ;0)

This has been covered at length there Dog. Yes during those races you will see AI miss checkpoints, ram, have unbelievable handling and speed, and utilize the famous rubber banding of speed. Just part of the game. Also don’t expect to see too many hours put into repairing any problems in FH3, Forza 7 is out and that is where the attention is.

All these things you’ve mentioned are cheating, except for the ramming, which is learned behavior from the people who play online and ram you all the time.

In fact, I believe two things contribute to the ramming. One of them is the people who actually ram you during online play, whose Drivatards learn this and begin doing the same. You’ll notice the Drivatards tend to ram you whenever near checkpoints, as this is a common strategy to cheat your way to victory in online play. The other could be the no collision races, because Drivatards behave as if blind, and if you race without collision then you don’t really need to care about overtaking nor watching out for other drivers, something which could be learned by Drivatards and incorrectly employed during offline races. If this is how I expect it to be, then it’s just an unfortunate side-effect of how the Drivatard system works, because the people who play no collision races to shield themselves from the rammers cannot be considered at fault.

Thought it probably would have been covered before. It’s just a small annoyance, and the drivatars on FH3 are nowhere near as aggressive as they are on FM7. I’ve been slammed into tyre walls, barriers, other racers, and t-boned on regular occasions, and that’s just on the first corner ;0) Goodness knows what would happen if I had “limit aggression” turned off lol

is there any way to get rid of the worst drivatards from the starting grid?
I don’t mean the 4 drivatars in the line up, I mean all the others that fill out the grid.

I can’t do some of the speed cameras because whenever I attempt them I am faced with a wall of 3 or 4 cars taking up the whole road.
I’ve had oncoming drivatards swerve into me at the last second.
drafting is a no go as some drivatards brake for no reason, usually on the fastest straights.

Free roam Drivatards are random, aren’t they? Except for the ones you invite to your Festival, of course.

Usually among the backmarkers there’s a Drivatard who behaves like a moving chicane, very annoying. If you’re rich you can use that perk which puts you in the lead for the next 4 races, but it’s only useful in short events such as sprints and trails.

Online freeroam. No drivatards, just traffic cars. Drivatards tend to spam the section of roads you are driving on, which is a problem when you try speed zones and drift zones.

thanks, that’s exactly what I’m looking for

you only get to choose the 4 drivers in your line up, the other 7 are the random free roam drivatars.
if you get one of the bad ones that likes to brake on straights, you end up teaching your drivatar to brake on straights. you get one that does head to head races in a straight line, ignoring the roads and you end up teaching your drivatar to do the same :-1:

winning races isn’t the problem, it’s the free roam stuff where drivatars make certain things impossible.

The AI is broken definitely cheats a lot in this game, and worst of all, is extremely inconsistent in difficulty. I can frequently beat impossible drivatars on the right tracks, but all too often the lower difficulty levels simply mean there’s less of the impossible drivatars. I just did a race on new racer to try to get one of the Hot Wheels challenges and ended up in third since two of the drivatars magically got enough speed to pass me right before the end. Didn’t see them at all for most of the race, but 90% of the way in they suddenly appeared on my tail. Not Cool.

There’s been a huge number of complaints about this, I really hope the devs are hearing them and implementing fixes for FH4 already.

They must find a way to favor cleaner racing, but it’s difficult… I don’t want to play battle royale every race, but with short 3-lap races (sometimes 2) and Drivatards constantly pushing you around, you kinda have to pay them back in double.

Unfortunately in Horizon 3 they seem to have made the meta skewed towards easy-to-drive, powerful AWD cars which are really easy to get a decent tune out of and require little skill to drive. Understeer is every bit as annoying as oversteer but much easier to drive around. This means that with Horizon 3 they went with a full-blown arcade style, which is not very fun considering this is a Forza game with some in-depth elements that should require some understanding of the game to master.

They also need to remove dragsters from the Drivatard pool somehow… [Mod Edit - Profanity removed - D].

IMO the problem was not that tires cost too much PI… It’s that AWD costs too little. It bumps you to a double 10 in Acceleration and Launch yet costs only 20 PI or so… Tires can cost between 25 to more than 100. Tires costing much PI is legit, especially on vintage cars, which came with pathetic biasply tires from the factory, then the tire upgrade swaps them out for radials and you get a ton of performance right off the bat. But AWD does a similar amount of magic yet does not have this penalty.

It’s worth noting that, in modern vintage racing, modern-spec tires are banned, as they eliminate the old feel of those cars and might tear the chassis apart due to the higher cornering force. And you can’t even swap AWD into many of these cars. Nevertheless, in a game where a Ferrari 250 GTO shares its place with the Hoonicorn, the sky is the limit.

it’s easy to do. give fixed xp for place at finish. maybe a bonus for clean laps. add in drifting/gymkana events but have fixed xp for winning. do that and people will teach their drivatar to race properly.
your example of the 3 lap race shows how it snowballs. you get a couple of bad drivatards and have to sink to their level to win and then everyone who gets your drivatar after that has to do the same and their drivatars become drivatards.

the way xp is awarded for knocking over objects at the side of the road is ridiculous. you can get more xp on some circuits driving badly in last place than from winning.

Turn 10 officially abandoned FH3, so i highly dout they will fix this issue, which, has been brought up many times over the past year.

2 expansion packs, several car packs, regular forzathons and a recent update.
doesn’t sound that abandoned to me.
the problem with drivatars is probably beyond patching but there is hope that T10 will take all this onboard for fh4.
