Changes to incremental adjustments in vinyl editor

So … being primarily a painter … of course I jumped right in to the vinyl editor once I could begin playing the game today. I was curious to see if any changes had been made to the editor … because of course painters have been requesting numerous changes and improvements for years.

A poster mentioned earlier today that the increments for vinyl adjustments had changed in the editor … and after working with some vinyls for a while, I found that they were correct. This was the only change that I’ve seen in the editor … and it’s not a good thing. For those of us that spend a lot of time in the vinyl editor … and for those of us who take pride in creating very precise and detailed designs … the changes to the editor mean that more time will be required to get the same detailed and precise results that we could get in previous editors. I obviously don’t know why this change was put in place, but any of the devs could have asked any of us painters who spend significant time in the editor for feedback and I’m sure we all would have told them in two minutes that this is a step backwards.

In previous games, the increments for adjustments to Move, Size, Spin and Skew were the same regardless of whether you were using the D-Pad or the left Thumb Stick. And that was good … because anyone who’s used the editor long enough to be proficient knows that vinyl manipulation is a well-choreographed dance between the Thumb Stick and the D-Pad. Many of us can manipulate those two inputs very quickly by muscle memory without even thinking much about it.

So … move forward to the editor in FM7 and here are the changes:
Move Vinyl - D-Pad increments by whole integers. Thumb Stick increments by half integers.
Size Vinyl - D-Pad increments by two hundredths. Thumb Stick increments by one hundredth.
Spin Vinyl - D-Pad increments by two tenths. Thumb Stick increments by one tenth.
Skew Vinyl - D-Pad increments by two hundredths. Thumb Stick increments by one hundredth.

As I noted before, in previous games, the increments were the same for all adjustments whether using D-Pad or Thumb Stick. Now, after these changes, it’s going to result in more time needed to make precise adjustments to get vinyls to line up properly. I am really dumbfounded as to why this change was made. The only real functional change that I can recall being made to the editor over the last few games … and it’s a step backwards for painters.

I noted that too - pretty disappointed with that - almost as much as when I discovered downloads in FM7 are only worth 100CR (was 500 in FM6) and likes are now 500CR (was 1000). But at least they threw us a bone - “uses” are now worth a staggering 200CR (was 100). Add to that a livery editor that seemingly has only changed for the worse (increment issue, metallic paints looking flat, still 3 or 4 good fonts & 7 to 8 bad ones, poor lighting, textures being absent, inability to put stickers on glass, cars that appear to have less detail, not more, ect.) So sad for us :frowning:

Yeah I just noticed this too. Not sure why everything works in increments of 2 now, but I don’t like it at all

I just found another issue as a result of this change that is just about going to make this editor useless to me. Looks like I’m going to have to resort to creating vinyls and logos in previous games and importing them to FM7.

So, so upset and disappointed.

It’s ridiculous !

Found that when I import logos some of them show up incomplete and don’t look very crisp once placed on the car. Also the lighting in the booth is a lot darker imo

came in to see if I was missing something, but I guess it’s a new ‘feature’.

Keep having to flick the thumbstick until I get the odd or even number I want, then fine tune it on the d-pad. Another ‘what were they thinking’ thing.

Painting in this game is a joke! I can’t even center most images. The livery editor can’t seem to find zero for the x axis. I’m stuck with either a value of -0.50 or 0.50. Its not worth painting until the vinyl and livery editors are fixed.

I noticed the same problem !! really annoying past of a value of 0.5 to 1.5 without finding the value 1.0 !! ?? we need to be very precise in our vinyls and that will not ease the créations!
the axis 0.0 is still not centered in the middle of the body … and I am not yet working vinyl serious !! hard

It’s an absolute disgrace and needs to be changed back.

Myself and a few other painters spotted this over Twitter. It’s already in Turn 10’s hands and has been passed on

You are right it is definitely not a good thing. I to am an avid painter. I posted to the forums also about this issue. My hopes are that more post and complain about this issue so turn 10 fixes it. You are welcome to go and lookup and read my post. Believe me I get it!!!

I like the idea of one controlling the halves and the other the wholes BUT you royally messed up. D pad should have been the halves and the stick should have been the wholes.

I must admit to being worried by what I’ve been reading since Friday but after spending an hour in the editor it’s not as bad as I feared. I get what they were trying to achieve & definitely appreciate being able to move / manipulate the shapes faster. However what I gain with the left stick I lose with the D-pad as it’s a fiddle to fine tune the placements.

I agree with Grimm5ha -
Simple solution seems to be leave the new settings on the Left Stick but reset the settings on the D-Pad to what we’ve had in previous Forza’s… I think I could work with that.

Still, it’s good to see PJ’s post that T10 are aware of the issue.

Even though this feels as ‘clunky’ & slow as FM6, I’ll persevere with logos in the new editor but I’m not too confident about creating portraits with it. Glad I didn’t dob Horizon 3 in

Rotating needs addressing
Left bumper right bumper scrolling should be there still
Zooming in is strange
The darkness is terrible, can’t colour match now
I save my decals in sets of 25, I need magnifying glass to see them
Menus are so slow to accept changes

Long and short needs patching asap can’t paint like this it’s frustrating

What are we doing here, painting or getting carpal tunnel syndrome?

I don’t know what the guys at T10 were thinking, but this needs to be fixed yesterday. Chop-chop!

As a new Livery creator (just started playing when FM5 went GWG because I needed the achievement) I think this new change hinders new creators. I mean how in the world can I get things to align if it’s so sensitive to get back to 0, I keep getting .5. Worse is I want to do .25 or even .1 and can’t anymore. Luckily so far I’ve only applied a paint and haven’t created a vinyl group yet in FM7, but can’t imagine it will be fun. I also noticed (and probably because of 4k) that some of the imported vinyl groups don’t look as smooth as they did before, most likely due to an upconvert of the pixel density.

Also since @ABGraphics mentioned and I can’t figure it out, how do you zoom?

Oops forgot to login and post.

Left thumb stick ‘Click’ it zooms in.
FH3 by far had the best editor. Its a shame Playground Games / Turn 10 dont pool resources or talk more :frowning:

I just created this thread on the bugs/issues forum to see if the gets any traction like this post has gotten. Wtf happened with our layer mode between the two games to be this off? Sorry for the double post but I’ve been keeping up on this post specifically so thanks for starting it, I just thought the HDR bug needs some love too.

Someone, anyone seen anything from any of the devs on these forums or Reddit on this issue regarding the HDR setting being on making the layer group shapes invisible unless turned off in Xbox advances visual settings. This is so annoying having to switch HDR mode on and off when I want to make layer groups. I know this is a small inconvenient workaround. Still a work around none the less I know which is at least a good thing but I was just thinking problems like this would have been the last thing I would have thought to worry about on launch. Also anything on the ridiculous movement increment problem( way more serious) Anyone seen anything reliable?
