Paint Shop Glitch (Please read and post f you are having same issue so it can get fixed)

Dear Turn 10 admins, (Xbox one platform)

I am an avid painter in the Forza motorsport series games. I’ve been painting cars since Forza 2. I spent nearly 1000 hrs painting in Forza 6. So one of the first things I did when I got my Fora 7 was to go to the paint shop and vinyl creation section in order to check it out and I discovered a HUGE problem. The new paint shop and create vinyl group has a big problem!!! The shapes are being incremented by .02 instead of .01. When you originally size, spin, skew, or opacity a shape it stays at that particular number then advances when you try to change it by .02. Example: If you size a square to 1.00 x 1.02 it will resize up or down by .02 to 1.00 x 1.04 or 1.00 x -.98 this happens in both directions up or down. If you stop at an uneven number when you first size it say 1.00 x 1.01 then it jumps by .02 to 1.00 x 1.03 and vice versa. While it may not seem like a big issue, it is because once the increment is set you can’t return back to zero. This is bad for trying to line up shapes and even worse for skewing and spinning objects. You can’t change the angle if you get it wrong. This affects all the shapes from basic to character letters. Again size, spin, skew, and opacity are affected. The move function is not affected. PLEASE FIX THIS ISSUE… It really will affect painting cars in a very negative way. If not for me then for all the other painters in the game that have not gone to the paint yet and experienced this issue…

Thanks,
NazareneSouljah

You mean that if you do one click on a D pad of say an Xbox controller you get a 0.02 increment right? So if you blow it up to an odd number fast with the analogue stick you can’t get back to an even number? That what you are complaining about?

Then you just twitch the stick until you get an even number again and reduce down with the D pad again on even numbers.

It’s annoying but it’s hardly a fatal flaw.

Nah … I have to agree with the others. For those of us that are primarily painters and spend a lot of time in the vinyl editor … this is a pretty major issue. Ask any well-established painter about it and get their thoughts. I’ve talked to several and then seen others comment about it here and on other sites … and not a single one of them didn’t agree that this is a big problem. It’s such a hindrance to me and the way that I make vinyls that I’m going to just continue actually creating them in other Forza games and import them to FM7 to use.

For sure it’s annoying. I noticed it playing with the paint booth earlier and wondered why the increments increased by 0.02 on the D pad. I just pointed out how you get around it, a small flick on the analogue stick. It’s a bit like a roulette to hit that even or odd number you want. For the painters that spend forever in there it’ll be a big time waster.

For me I just adapted. They should change it back to 0.01 increments but when they do that they should also fix the enormous memory leak on PC you can often get in the paint booth and customisation menus.

Add it to the list. The very long list, ever increasing.

My paints routinely approach 10,000 layers. With multiple adjustments necessary to shape and position each layer … I am not willing to accept a ‘workaround’ ‘roulette-like’ approach where I ‘hope’ to get something where I want it and may need to make tens of thousands of additional adjustment steps per design. This is a major issue.

I think you’re confused. I only stated how to get the increments back to either an odd or even number. I stated that flicking the stick to get back to the odd or even desired was a roulette, not getting the alignment right once you get back to the odd or even number desired. It should be straightforward from there, albeit unnecessarily time consuming

Not confused at all. I knew what you meant straight away and had already figured out that workaround on my own. My comment wasn’t aimed at you in particular … but more just to continue the thought of your post and expand on it. Sorry if it came off that way.

My paints usually reach around 3,000 to 5,000 layers as I like clean, simple designs. However a single paint can and has taken up to and past a week, even two at times due to research, constant adjusting, tweaks, color changes, experimentation with different logos, vinyls and much much more. This change to 0.02 increments per click is extremely time consuming, frustrating, annoying and baffling to why the decided that this was a good idea. They have done nothing to improve the paint system form Forza 5 on wards and with Forza 7 they have made it worse. This really needs to change.

+1 here.

I’m just a casual painter and it drove me mad tonight. All I was doing was making a simple text vinyl and I was ready to put my controller through the screen. Please, please, please fix this. And then figure out how something so obviously broken made it into production to begin with.

Yes, annoying.

I just do the odd livery for my own cars, and I’m finding it annoying to keep twitching the control to get an odd or even number (or a whole or half number) and then fine tune until correct.

I can see this being a major ballache for painters, let alone us casuals, and could be an easy fix. Please?

Helios reached out to a few of us on Twitter and we sent him footage of the issue already, hopefully it gets fixed soon.

For now, if I am making any new logos I am doing it in Forza Horizon 3.

Using FM5 to do the logos, so can use them on all FM games… Pleased to see Helios is aware…fingers crossed

FH2 has been my go-to editor for a while now … as it seems to be the most responsive and quickest moving in my experience when making adjustments. Of course, no way to use those vinyls in FM5, but I have pretty much moved on from 5 anyway.

it can take a long time using the stick, more often than not a quick flick still moves on several increments. It can take several flicks before getting back to an odd or even number… A very poor idea from T10

Yep we noticed this straight away and Helios has the footage I sent him and he’s passed it on

I’ve already alerted the painters on the Community Team.

Pleased to hear that T10 has at least been made aware of this issue. Let’s hope that if they do correct it … they get it all. This change affects all possible adjustments (Move, Size, Spin, Skew and Opacity) in both the Apply Decals and Create Vinyl Group sections.

The paint shop has lost some features since FM4. That was the last great paint shop.

Experienced the same issue, takes alot longer to make designs properly…
