Tuned up a 79 Camaro for the League ghost lobby and got it driving pretty good. Went online to race and seemed like my grip on the track was considerably less. Went off a corner on Sonoma that I don’t usually have any trouble with and when I get back on the track I am doing donuts at 11mph. I quit the lobby and went to Free play to load up Sonoma and try improving my tune, but didn’t have any of the problems staying on the track (which I know quite well from hundreds of Forza 4 laps years ago).
I don’t have any assists turned on and use a TMX FF wheel with sim steering.
I actually find just the opposite, as my experience seems that online has more grip. Either way I think it’s just in our heads because when racing actual human players you are going to have a tendency to push the car more. I realize that doesn’t explain my experience, but lately I have become more comfortable racing online, getting to know the tracks and stringing together some wins, 3 straight. I drove the exact car you refer to, the 79 Camaro seemed to have more than ample grip to me. Like I said I think much of what we perceive ways heavily on 1) our minds playing tricks on us , 2) how consistent we are on a given track and 3) how well your car is tuned.
It may seem that way but actually you are just over-driving the car trying to keep up with faster cars. You don’t realize it but you are braking late, late turn in and getting back in the throttle to soon junior.
Using Rivals, try chasing someone that is a seconds faster than you. It may help you adjust your driving skills or vehicle tuning.
I can run the same lap times in rivals, free play, career mode and online.
Sometimes I’m a little faster online if I previously have never hotlapped the car (happens more often now since there is nowhere to hotlap 90+% of the cars in the game). Usually that only happens when I’m following someone who is really quick or am trying to catch up.
In esports I tend to do worse because I get really nervous. In those instances the car does feel worse than when I practiced.
Playing Forza while tense will cause the cars to drive bad. Playing when relaxed and in a state of focus that isn’t causing you stress will net great laps in any game mode.
Even though people say “racing online” you aren’t, you are still racing entirely on your own XBox, all the online portion is doing is reporting back and forth the positions of your opponents. It isn’t possible for there to be a difference, especially with the old P2P networking. Even with dedicated servers that’s just MS doing matchmaking.
I’ve noticed that myself at times when racing online with others and it’s simply because I’m trying too hard to keep up/stay ahead. Don’t pay too much attention to the other cars in the race and just focus on your brake points and being patient on the throttle. That’s all there really is to it, at least in my experience anyway.
Agreed. It seems like when online I try to push it more and thus push brake points and turn in points as well as hitting the gas too hard and spin the wheels on exit just trying to keep up. There are a lot of ways to make small mistakes that add up to a slower lap time. When you add the pressure of the race against live opponents those mistakes seem to be amplified. If you can maintain discipline and just run your race at your pace you make fewer mistakes and though it seems slower you wind up being faster because you are not trying to recover from the mistakes. The more/less grip is just an illusion. I find that offline even against the AI I try and push the car harder when close to an opponent than if I am far away. And that is when mistakes happen.
Now in a Ghost League it is easier to ignore the other cars and just run your race because you can just drive through the other cars and they can drive through you. Simulation races not so much. A lot of it is perception. In a Simulation race it is a lot harder to stay focused on your race because the car in front may brake or slow suddenly or there may be contact and a crash. You have to be ready for those situations to make adjustments and try and hit your braking/turn in points. You make hit the same turn 100 times perfect in rivals but in a race you are now trying to keep up with someone and you are going faster so you have to adjust your braking point and before you know it you’ve missed it and now are too deep in the corner. The end result can be a minor loss of time to a full on spin or wreck.
I’ve kinda noticed the same thing when drifting,i hate it so i’ll get that out of the way but I can be drifting ok but then those drift zones come up and I swear they put super glue on the road cause I can’t drift worth a c r a p in those zones, outside the zones,no problem,go figure!!
