Can't use Upgraded cars in Campaign?!

I tried upgrading a Z28 to use in my campaign and it says the car is illegal. I thought it was because it was maxed for that class. Took all the upgrades off except one and it still won’t let me use it unless it’s bone stock. This is completely disappointing. Any ideas? Thank you.

Yes, you are trying to use an illegal car in a division that has a limit on PI. Remove the upgrades.

So the days of being able to upgrade a car according to what I think it needs to be a better car are gone?!

Those days are still here in Free Play and Multiplayer.

Which is disappointing.

I enjoy campaign more than online due to Drivatars being more forgiving than real people online. Most online play I’ve encountered is a demolition derby. It’s a shame. So the fact thatI can’t use an upgraded car in campaign is a huge let down. Why even waste my credits upgrading cars… :unamused:

I’m someone who isn’t even interested in multi-player, so the campaign is really where the meat is for me. I am disappointed in not being able to upgrade a car as far as I want for it as well.

I agree, I’ve been playing Forza since the first one and it’s annoying when I can’t upgrade my car to the top of it’s class for a given race… Especially when it seems that the drivatars have upgraded cars. Not to mention the ‘unicorn’ drivatar that is simply unbeatable… very disappointing…

The question should be why cant we use the Fast and Furious cars in campaign mode?

I find this thread funny but it does go to show how difficult the process can be for Turn 10 to put out a game that is pleasing to the majority of players.

In the past you had to upgrade your cars to do career and many, many came here to complain that they enjoy racing cars stock and don’t want to be forced to upgrade in career.
Now that a good chunk of career is in (more-or-less) stock cars, many gamers are coming here about how they want to upgrade and don’t like racing stock.

It’s a tough job to get that perfect balance of what everyone wants and that is why some career events are stock and some allow you to upgrade.

I personally think the FH2 system was ideal but it may not be possible to easily implement with the career set up of Motorsport 6 though I admit that I do not know why this would be the case. I don’t know enough about what all happens behind the scenes to allow the career AI to change based on the PI you choose for that series and if that would or would not be easily implemented. In any case, it seems it would be the ideal way to do career.

They really did have good thing going with Horizon 2 by allowing you to basically just pick whatever car you wanted at any given time and it would be usable for something. My best guess is that they want to force people into a sensible difficulty curve by making sure people can’t pile upgrades into the early volume cars and make them undrivably fast. However, free mode could have offered the Horizon 2 experience somewhat if they just had PI scaled opponents instead of always stock ones (you’d still get the silly mismatching, but at least you’d have any car at any upgrade level be useful again).

Why not just race free mode then?

You get exact same rewards as you would in career mode plus you get to set up everything like you want to

best of both worlds in my opinion

The only problem is that you don’t get that sense of progression if you do that in Free Mode. I’ve found that upgrades are in fact possible in Career, and necessary in some cases, but you’re just a lot more restricted.

The problem with that and I hope they add this: We can not choose “Division” or in the past Body style. If we could I would play free play a lot more… GT versus 76 F1 cars and hyper cars isn;t really what most persons are after. BUT if that were an option to call out the division then we could be racing SP a lot more in my opinion.

there are tuning and upgrade options for some of the divisions:

We just haven’t got use to it because we are all conditioned to go up to top of class

good points both of you

regarding ai car choice I know Turn 10 is looking into the possibility of letting us choose the cars that drivatars drive so that we can set up our own style of races and body styles, so hopefully that goes well and can be implemented

as for progression, just need a little bit of creativity and imagination, come up with your own racing league or racing series and do it in free mode, endless possibilities and can be a lot of fun

I’m simply saying I find it frustrating that they are trying to level the playing field by not allowing us to upgrade our cars at all. Half the challenge is upgrading and tuning your car to be the best it can be in your hands. Now it seems the challenge is figuring out which car Trun 10 has tuned to be the best car. By not allowing us to upgrade our cars where’s the personalization? And don’t say the livery. I could care less about my paint job. This is a huge downfall in my opinion.
I find myself driving a car I like wishing I could upgrade the tires (Like a red muscle car during a night race), or even something as small as the clutch. Certain tracks and conditions require certain upgrades. Is that not what this is all about? Choosing a car and upgrades to give you the best chance at wining a race? That’s how Forzas have always been. This isn’t a NASCAR game where everyone has to have the same engine and output. Forza has always allowed upgrades in career mode to allow the person to upgrade their car to their specific wants and needs.
I’ve found myself having to turn the drivatar difficulty down a level so I can compete with certain cars I’d like to drive. So it’s either too difficult and I want to give up and stop playing, or too easy and I win by a long shot. We can edit every aspect of difficulty when it comes to assists and Drivatars, why can’t I simply edit my car?! We’ve been upgrading our cars in video games for years.

I don’t understand what you mean here. I completed Volume 1 of career mode a few days ago

Japanese Street Kings - I used a Honda S2000 that I upgraded to 500
Compact Sport Coupe, I used a Mazda MX-5 that I upgraded to 400
Hot Hatchbacks, I used a 97 Honda Civic VTEC that I upgraded to 400
Ultimate SpoCom, I used a BMW M235 that I upgrade to 600
Rally Day Heroes, I used a Subaru 22b that I upgraded to 500
Classic Compact, I used a Ford Escort RS1600 that I upgraded to 300

How is T10 not allowing us to upgrade our cars? I have no idea what this thread is about. Yes, I cannot just use an upgraded BMW M235 to finish every series in a volume, because there are other restrictions, like body style, year, manufacturer and so forth. This is how every Forza game has worked in the past.

I agree, I can totally use my upgraded cars in career mode so long as the car meets the class limit.

When you finish the first set of series, you can choose whatever you like in whatever class you like. There is a huge amount of races in career where you upgrade and tune a car to your liking. Just hold on and when you finish Ultimate series, you can freely choose class and car like previous versions of Forza.
