Can you create a backup of your savedata - Either X Box or PC?

Is there anyway to create you own backup of the Savedata for FH3 either on X Box One S or PC …

Thanks…

On xbox one im pretty sure you can copy a save to a usb drive formatted to use on the xbox one

No. If you attempt to do anything other than save in The Cloud, and then bring it back in the future you’ll get tagged for a “tampered profile.” Use of an older save would invalidate the more recent one, and the only way out of that is to delete and start all over again.

That’s the one I was on about… the “tampered profile” one.

I’m seconding this question/request as it is very frustrating if there is a cloud problem and you suddently have to start over after 300+ hours.

That’s basically why I asked… I also have over 300 hours invested in the game and these reports of Corrupted saves are somewhat worrying… There doesn’t have seen to have been any response to people that it’s happened to other than “Start again from Scratch”

If mine got corrupted I don’t think I could face starting from scratch…

I am more concerned as I play on the x box One S (given up on the PC version of the game - about the only thing I might consider using it for is making some pretty pictures as my PC is a 5K setup) but have to start it up every now and again to keep it up to date.

My X Box One S has the games “quit” and a proper shut down ad disconnect from mains every night… and also do the same after updates…

I have a few glitches in scores since the BM expansion and update and also the Barn Find in BM hasn’t popped so it will stop me getting 1500/1500 :frowning:

Even on the 360, where users actually have access to their save data (and can back it up), Turn 10 made it practically impossible for you to back up your data, and continue playing online (if you ever reverted to the backup). First, it was locked against copying. You could move it to another storage device, but not create a copy. Then, as Snowowl described, if you did manage to find a way to copy it and archive it, it would be invalidated later if you tried to use it online. You’d be stuck playing offline only.

The Xbox One does this restrictive philosophy one better by removing all user access to save files. The only way I can think of creating a backup is to buy a second console, install the game there, sync your cloud save to it, then pull that console offline. Pretty expensive backup device, and you’d still have the restriction from the developer, plus issues with using your game offline due to licenses, and which is your home console. Buying the game on disc would be a practical necessity for this approach.

Thanks for your replies and explanation of how Turn 10 have controlled access to the data…

I better just hope nothing untoward happens then by the look of things… :frowning:

FYI for anyone asking, back in FM2 it was infested by cheaters. We could save a “back-up” back then, except people started selling off their cars on the Auction House, make quick profits on them, and then bring back the “back-up” with all the original cars. And repeat, over and over and over.

Any game now where you might be tempted to “back-up” the progress will trigger the sensors on the servers if an older version is brought into play. Thank the cheaters for that, but that’s life.

I suggest anyone who is worried about your save take a look at my post here: http://forums.forza.net/turn10_postsm528894_Losing-saves---What-can-I-do-to-prevent-it.aspx#post_528894 Included there is the PROPER way to shut down your games, the PROPER way to install add-ons, DLC, etc., and PROPERLY do a console reset so you are protecting all the hard-earned work.

Thanks again for your reply…

That’s the method I have used “religiously” since purchasing the console - something I did reluctantly because the PC version of the game had and still has so many issues - The most stable version was the initial release on my hardware and don’t want to risk corrupting my save data by playing on the subsequent releases… I seriously hope that at some point in the not to distant future they can sort it but the shear number of different hardware and software scenarios make it a nightmare…

Fortunately The X box One S has only crashed a handful of times in 300+ hours of play so I hope that whatever mechanism T10 have in place to protect the save data can cope with the odd glitch… So far it has been fine… being “closed” architecture you got to hope they have things under control…

I come form a background where data integrity is “mission critical” and potentially “life altering” so we take all sorts of measure to protect it.,

However I realise that Forza is only a game even if it does take over some of our lives …

Thanks again for taking the time to answer my questions… I’ll leave it at that.

Yes, I know about the cheater problem. I do understand. Thing is that everyone gets punished in the crossfire with them. I’m sure averting cheating and possible system-hack attempts is behind the locked save files on the new Xbox too.

Good. I go back to the very early software testing on PCs, and testing DOS 1.x at one point. Used to blow up my $3,700 desktop with 4 MB of RAM and a 40 MB (mega, not giga) hard drive until a person I later met phoned me because of the two-cent post cards we used to send in Fridays via regular mail I’d sent. He led me through “dividing” the hard drive so I had a test portion (we didn’t call them partitions back then) without risking the rest of the machine weekly and having to rebuild it.

Fortunately, when we’re on the Xbox Console, we’re all working with the same hardware, unlike PC installs with the myriad of RAM, different graphics cards and (probably) over-clocked CPUs. LOL!

GT has no problem letting you make backups of your progress WITHOUT allowing people to cheat so there is NO excuse not to be able to back up your files especially if Microsoft are too daft to have cloud saves where all copies won’t become corrupted. No excuse whatsoever for that. If your save gets corrupted they should always have an uncorrupted restore point in the cloud if they are refusing to let us back up our games. Every other game allows backups and there is no excuse not to allow it on the PC. PERIOD.

I go back beyond the first PC … When we used to use a Teletype and acoustic coupler to connect to the remote “mainframe” and were “storing” code and data locally on punched paper tape…

Ah those were the days…

Really Thanks again for your comments - even though it might not look like it I really appreciate you taking the time to reply… even if the answers might not be want to hear…

I learned to program at a very large university on punched cards, on an Amdahl emulating an IBM 370 mainframe. My first language was ForTran. If that doesn’t date me, nothing will.

You can absolutely make backups of your saves (at least on PC). The save folder is “C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.OpusPG_8wekyb3d8bbwe\SystemAppData\wgs”

Try using a Backed up save from a few days ago, after having progressed in the game beyond that save point. Let my know how that works out for you.

wasn’t the question having backups in case of cloud corruption?

Yes, that was the question, and it has been answered, you cannot. (And I agree that that does suck a bit as proven over and over). But if you did what you were saying, although you can in fact do it, you will get a Tampered Profile error and be starting the game all over. Blame the guys in Forza 2 but it just is that way.

But what about Snowowls comment
