Can I stop drifting?

I don’t much enjoy drifting. One of the tips at the bottom of the screen says something like, “Drifting around corners will win you style points, but won’t give you the fastest lap times.”

Doesn’t that imply that it’s possible to not drift?

By the way, where are style points? I haven’t seen any message like: “You’ve just won (X number of) style points.”

Just don’t drift. Hell I don’t even know how to make the car drift in Forza 6. My drift score is like zero lol. Did you play Horizon a lot? If so don’t drive like you do in Horizon it won’t work. Not sure what else I can say. Brake more on the turns perhaps? What class car are we talking about? It could be you will drive better with traction control on. For me I need traction on in anything above A class. Don’t be ashamed.

I’m just starting with Forza.
All classes.
Traction control IS on.

If you’re sliding through corners, you’re not “drifting” you are going too fast, don’t have a proper tune on the car, need to learn “slow in, fast out” for cornering, etc. Work with lower Class cars at first until you have regular control of them, and gradually build up your speed.

In Career Mode, if I slow down too much for corners, I’m going to get hit more than I do already, and I won’t be able to finish in at least third.

The Driftpoints adjuster can be found under the HUD menu.Pretty sure its last or 2nd last on the menu.
As said before,if you are sliding through corners,then slow down.The old saying is Slow in,Fast out
A drift is executed before the corner and continues through to the other side,often linking corners together
If you find your car stepping out in corners,knock some pressure out of the tyres (tires for you yanks :joy:) and muck around with the tune of the car…and lay off the handbrake

Try reducing camber on the front and rear… Not to the point where the car is sluggish to turn in, but until the car feels more stable. Try adjusting the differential. I really like the standard 70-35 but some cars, especially Ferrari’s for me, like a higher deceleration setting. I would suggest to drive without traction or stability control for the simple fact that driving without them will make you a better, fastest driver as you learn. It will also make it easier to handle trick cars in the future if you drive with them off.

Try turning the full braking line on. Even some of the best racers have used it. It will tell you when to brake. Once you have learned the tracks than you can turn it off. It’s a great learning aid but is not always correct. Think of it as a kind of suggestion but don’t follow it to a T.

Get in a car that you really like and screw around in test drive mode and crash crash crash until you get a better feeling of your cars limits.

I think I know what you mean. Honestly dealing with that just comes with practice. It’s a hard game and if you have never played a Forza Motorsport game it will take a long time to learn. Stick with it. Pick a car you like and learn what it can do. Do the whole carrer and showcases but maybe learn a car first. Career will force you into a car and you may not be able to use one you like. Make sure to tune you car or download them if you aren’t a tuner.

I don’t want to spend a lot of time tuning. I’ve downloaded some tunes, but the cars still drift.

This statement is probably a reason you will be frustrated with this game. You can be a good driver and learn good technique but until you learn what your car can do and how the tuning of it effects it’s performance you will always be lagging behind…take the time to learn what makes your cars fit your driving style, create a “base tune” then adjusting the car will take a lot less time and you will have that much more enjoyment with this game.

There is a whole section of the forums for tuning, use it to your advantage.

With tyre squealing means your car does not have enough grip. Either you are going too fast or turning too sharp in a corner.
Use a car with better handling to learn the track. Found out the appropriate braking point and racing line.

If you watch an actual real-world road race like Formula One, you’ll see that even though a car can do 200+ MPH they can’t do that in a corner no matter how they setup the car and no matter how much downforce they have. They don’t just slow from ~200 to 180, either. Even an F1 car, the highest-performance cars on Earth, slow down quite a bit for turns. It depends on the turn, but slowing from upwards of 200 down to something like 50 isn’t unusual at all, and slashing their speed in half for turns is common. If an F1 car has to slow down so much, everything else has to go slower still.

You can’t brake in the turn, either. Experienced drivers can “trail brake”, but they still aren’t waiting until they’ve reached the turn to slam on the brakes. You need to slow on approach to the turn. Braking shifts your car’s weight, and during a turn that will make your car’s rear end swing out.

Your tires are the bottleneck through which everything your car does must pass. They only have so much grip to offer. That can be used for acceleration, braking, or turning. If you’re trying to use that grip to steer around a corner, that grip can’t also be doing your braking at the same time. If you’re asking your tires to turn your car and slow it at the same time, the car’s grip is divided between both tasks.

Also, if your car is rear-wheel drive and you’re applying throttle through the turn, you need to be careful how much throttle you apply because it’ll try to turn your car around on you.

I’ve got the same problem. Had no issues in FM3 or 4 playing without TCS or ABS. However something doesn’t feel right with the triggers. I’ve already changed the deadzones to 0 and 100 (try that if you haven’t) but 100% throttle and 100% brake still comes in at about 75% of the trigger travel. Modulating the triggers are so hard with the Xbone controllers, it’s almost as if they were designed for twitch shooters (shock horror). Anything above S class simply needs traction control until a fix is pursued by development. A deadzone of 100 isn’t a deadzone of 100 if it tops out at 75% travel…

I’ve done that with the deadzones. I even briefly changed the controller layout to #11. I think that’s the one, or maybe #14. The one that sets the right stick for both gas and brake, but I often pushed it left instead of forward. Maybe the Elite Controller would be better?
