I built a '79 Z28 in C class. I wasn’t expecting much out of it really, but I built it for the two long LeMans courses. I am absolutely terrible with muscle cars, so I’m forcing myself to learn how to drive and tune them. It hits 191 mph and I got it to #172 on both Lemans LBs. With me driving it, that must mean I did something at least partially right. I know its capable of a lot more, but I’m just not good enough yet. I would love to get someone here that is better than me to really push it and see what it can do. The noob tuner in me wants your feedback too so I can learn from my mistakes. I shared it in the game, but I’d be willing to give you the open source tune for it too.
First things first, I’m not really into muscle cars so I’m not a great judge, yet some feedback from people that doesn’t drive this type of cars very often may be useful.
You also chose to focus on a track that has 4 minute laps so I made only a few attempts and with TCS because with those cars it’s easy lose the rear and I wanted to post a time without lapping for half an hour. Anyway I enjoyed your car and I found it was easier than I expected. It breakes properly considering that probably weights a lot and there is no need to be that gentle on the throttle since the TCS didn’t kick in much, I was expecting more problems coming out of turns. It’s a good tune, probably it can be improved and I’m sure you will work on it.
My time was 4:37,253 and I ran only La Sarthe, hope this helps and keep up the good job
Thanks a lot, that’s what I was really hoping to hear. I will certainly tweak it, but its nice to know I’m on the right track. When I mess up with it, I don’t know if its the car, or my lack of ability. Getting someone better than me to drive it well tells me that my screw ups are far more about me than the car.
I don’t know why I chose LeMans, just did. I plan on altering the tune for other tracks eventually. Just got done posting a PB on Road America East with it. Still haven’t gotten it right for anything else yet though.
I just ran against your ghost and I was able to see some of the mistakes I was making. I corrected some, but others not so much. I seem to have the car sway on me a good bit, but I see virtually none of that with you. That was the point was this. I now know the car is capable and I just have to fix those errors in my driving. I did better my time by over 3 full seconds running against your ghost. I’m now #125, only 101 more spots to catch RPMSwerve
I know rank is meaningless, but its my highest ranking on a track not named after a TV show, so let me enjoy it…
You did me a big favor and I’m quite grateful, thank you. If I can ever do anything to return the favor, just ask.
Oh don’t worry, I have fun driving
However, since I suggested it, I took some laps also on Road America and got a 2:25,149 which is pretty good, and a 2:24 is feasible because I screwed up here and there…plus I noticed for the first time that on the bridge after the second turn there is a truck shaped as a piece of cheese, but probably this is something that it’s not going to help you with your tune.
I will try not to run this track with other C class cars so that you can use my ghost in rivals if you want.
I’d have to be pretty creative to get the cheese shaped truck to help with my tune. I tried running it at Road America and its not going to happen for me just yet. I can’t control it well enough around the turns just yet. Now Road America East, I knocked the HP down a little, put the Aero back on and made the tires full width and beat my PB by 3 seconds. I appreciate the offer to not run any other cars, but that wouldn’t be fair to you. I’ll take a look at your replay tonight and after that, I’m good.
Have you considered that the rank is high, due to a lack of people who have ran it? I’m not saying your time isn’t good. But seeing that you have posted about this several times, you might need to take into consideration the lack of people on that track. If you’re looking to get high on that particular board, horsepower is key.
Its not about where I end up with a leaderboard rank really. I’m working on my skills as a driver and a tuner. With this car, its more about the tune. I could care less if 8,000 more people show up and all beat my times, I just want to know that I tuned a muscle car properly. I’ve done several others and they all left a lot to be desired. I think I’m a lot closer with this one though.
Tuning a muscle car is one thing. Tuning a car for Ol Lemans/La Sarthe is another. That is ultimately what I was trying to get at. A muscle car may do well at this track in terms of rank due to a low number of people who have ran it. Where as it really doesn’t do well there because a properly tuned Lemans car will destroy it. As Monkeyd said tuning it at a less build specific track may prove more worthwhile.
I tuned a 64 Impala in B class for Laguna and have it running 1:34.5, that is solid for that track, however if I ran said Impala at Lemans in a lobby I would get stomped.
It had more to do with his other post. In regards to Shalb and also thinking that someone faster may do better. Sometimes that isn’t always the case. Nice time!! Lou got what he needed.
oh I see…Well then you are right, if the point was checking if the car could do better he should be happy about it.
I’m not a tuner, but since I know that Lou is starting his career in the tuning world, and if I could give an advice, I would start by tuning a car for a track other than Lemans, that has 4 minute laps, so that test driving gets simpler and faster both for him and the others that try the car. For example Road America could require a car with similar attributes, but a lap takes half the time. But again, I’m not an expert
I mean that I’m not going to go into rivals and beat it on purpose, then if it happens into a MP lobbie there is nothing I can do. Keep up the good job!
I’m far from an expert on Le Mans, but there’s no question you need max speed if your goal is leaderboard position. The build for that is simple. Buy Forza wings and a Race differential (optional) and use the remaining PI to buy motor only. Simple to tune. Set tires to 28/28, Set wings to minimum. Experiment with differential (if you bought one). The car is going to run as fast as it can and do little else. Run a ton of laps and hope you land one. A car built like this will be useless for an online lobby. The only reason I recommend wings is the lowered PI affords a dab more motor. I recommend the Race differential because it’s one of the best “free” parts that can have a dramatic effect on drivability.
