The car in front was slowed down by the ground. I may have come in a bit long but half my car was in front. He touched me from behind.
In any case, do the two incidents justify 2.25 second penalties each (4.5 seconds total at the end of the race)?
Yesterday I started in Catalunya from pole position. The third guy rammed me (caught from behind) at the first corner, sending me into a spin and making me 21st. After an inhuman comeback I got third at 2 seconds from him to discover that he hadn’t taken a single tenth of a penalty.
This game is inconsistent. Sometimes for half a wheel off the track at Spa Francorshamps I take a 1 second penalty and whoever knocks me off without a bit of fairplay just 0.10 seconds.
I had a fool intentionally force me off the track and into the tyre’s coming onto the straight at Spa after he took out another player by turning them around, they got a 4.5 for the turn around but nothing for blatantly continuing to force me out.
The penalties in MP make it not worth your time playing, when you get taken out of the race completely and on purpose all for 5 seconds that might lose you 1 skill point and I’ll lose 5 or more for coming in last
There needs to be a penalty of being ghosted for 15-20 seconds whilst slowing you to 60kmh for that time
Yeah the wheels of the track I’m not that worried about and it makes you remember not to do that again, it doesn’t ruin your race nearly as much as an out of control player that went off track and spears back on right in front of you completely blocking the track and you brake but tag the back and get a 4.5 then the player behind slams into you and you shoot off track into the tyres and it’s race over
Didn’t it happen to you at the Pouhon that you skimmed the white strip and got 1-2 seconds of penalty even when you lifted your foot off the throttle hoping not to get a penalty?
I’ve done it a lot of times and it doesn’t matter if you then brake, slow down or let off the throttle to avoid the ‘gain’ you imagine the game has taken. You often get an exaggerated penalty.
The same happens in Blanchimont. But there it’s a fast corner and it’s OK to be given a penalty if you cross the edge of the track… but without exaggeration I’ve sometimes found 1.5 second penalties equal or more to someone who takes it like a rocket and actually makes a gain (maybe even hitting you in the process).
They changed the penalties before they changed the safety levels.
Now some penalties are excessive. Too many for a light excursion off the track, too few for someone who rams you and sends you off the track.
You must have me mistaken for someone else. Like I said, I’ve yet to see a penalty for going off-track that wasn’t deserved. Unless you have a replay where you’re clearly 2 wheels in and still get a penalty, I don’t believe it.
Because this is my experience:
Notice how much of the car is off-track on that bottom picture, and how the car is still considered in.
For that matter, I think the game is too generous on off-track detection, but better that than too many false positives.
I will note you are supposed to race on the track, not off it. At the risk of repeating myself, I’ve never seen the game flag me as off-track when I didn’t deserve it, and that means at least half of my car clearly out.
And objectively you’ll only get a high penalty when you’re encroaching on tarmac, which is still less of a time loss than if it was gravel, a hard wall, or a darned cliff.
I did not speak of false positives, I spoke of exaggerated penalties in relation to the type of off-track excursion. Also when I slow-down it gives me more penalty sometimes of those who cut the track voluntarily.
There were wreckers in FM4, 5 and 6. I don’t know about FM7 because I’ve not tried online.
In FM6, there seemed to be a lot of (young?) players who didn’t know motor racing isn’t all Destruction Derby. Also those who drove powerbuilds badly, but well enough to finish high up to ascend the Online Leagues, even to the top split, going by the complaints that were posted here.
The need for a penalty system came from player requests. A Marshall system was implemented, with those chosen having a shield symbol after their gamertag. Clearly though they couldn’t be everywhere so the AI system we now have was developed. Naturally it needs more work, like all software.
Perhaps if they had their staff play the game - and not just experts like Raceboy, but people of all abilities - they’d see where to tweak. Relying on customers, as they do, should come with a simple feedback system, but it’s too complicated or inaccessible so all they get are rants which they ignore.
I’ve got 5+ clips of being rear ended or pit manoeuvred yet I get the penalty and the offender gets nothing and the penalties are far too much, anywhere from 2.95 to 4 seconds.
Yesterday i qualified in pole on spa and got great start, coming into the first corner a cruise missile t-boned me he wasn’t racing just speed build first corner idiot then quit but I got 4 seconds for him hitting and spinning me and while spinning I wasn’t ghosted so got hit again (accident I’m sure) which gave me a further 2.95 seconds and the second hit knocked me off track which added a further 0.4 penalty so I went from pole to 19th (last in that race) and got 7.35 second time penalty through absolutely zero driver error. I’ve clipped it so if I can submit it to Forza I’d love to show them just how much they’ve destroyed online racing.
And as if that isn’t bad enough, I dropped from A to C from that one bad race and I’ve since done maybe 10-12 races either clean or sub 1 second penalty races I’ve only improved to B safety.
You must understand, you are arguing, first with an ardent self proclaimed aficionado of the game, and second, with one who will argue endlessly just for the sake of the argument.
I myself have experienced all these various off track errors of the game (and no pics - so what I don’t care )they are frustrating and very inconsistent.
And I’m not about to go into any argument with anyone else.
I was just making the point that you don’t seem to understand how the rules of this game works regarding being off-track. And it’s clear this video doesn’t either.
“By official rules, you are out of track when all four wheels are out of the white line” it says, but not only that’s not how this game works, that’s not even true of motorsports in general. Different series have different rules on that.
That statement is wrong in both regards, and it’s easy to verify. You are out when three wheels are out, and the track limit isn’t the white line, track limit is the track limit. That is how the game actually works, and none of the examples show the game failing to identify that.
Regarding the amount of penalties, there’s possibly one false negative (the Suzuka clip), but I don’t see why the rest are excessive. Having a sliver of wheel on the white line means nothing per the game’s rules, and going in the gravel doesn’t mean no advantage was gained, compared to slowing more to actually make the turn.
