Has anyone using the Thrustmaster TX wheel managed to get a headset working alongside the wheel yet ??
or is everyone else using the wheel like me and forced to use kinect for sound and microphone.
Not possible. My kinect never left the box so thats out of the question & when i unboxed the wheel i couldn’t believe there was no slot for a mic. Had it for over a month now & i’ve barely used the thing but thats more down the games failings than the actual product which is fine i suppose despite this huge oversight. It’s is going on ebay next week.
Once Microsoft sort out the conflict with the wheel and control pad been on at the same time, this issue should be gone. Although the wheel should have a connector for a headset, its not the end of the world. I think if you get rid of your wheel now, you may regret it further down the line, not to mention that it works great on the pc as well from my understanding.
Not sure if they THINK they have sorted out the conflict part yet , but the other night i was playing split screen with my son, i was using the wheel ( on my profile) and he was using the controller(on his profile) and both worked fine together. but that DOES NOT fix the chat headset issue when used with the TX wheel.
The problem for me and i’m sure its the same for others is that one person can only use ONE CONTROLLER at a time, and obviously if you are using a wheel to control the game then you cannot use a second controller at the same time( the one with the chat headset plugged into it ) , and even if you could you then would have a second problem as in the wireless controller ( with the headset plugged into it ) will auto turn itself off after a while due to not being held by the user ( as the user will be using the wheel ) .
Yes! I have used it on both xbox and pc. It is like a mini T500 on pc. Heck, when I upgade my wheel I was considering the T500 or CSW, but now that I have tried the TX, it is a serious contender. Especially at the price point, as I intend to continue using my CSP.
I hope MS gets the controller conflict sorted out for you One users though.
What a box they’ve put us into with this wheel, huh? I just got mine this past Sunday…none of my friends play FM5 so I don’t have anyone to talk with on there but I could see how it’d be annoying. I only got the wheel because my Fanatec CSR pedals died after less than a year, and Fanatec was absolutely no help. I had hoped this wheel would also work for PS3/GT6 as it works for PC…but no luck.
Although I’m pissed that I had to buy ANOTHER wheel to use for the Xbox One specifically, I must say the wheel is well worth the money if the XB1 is your only platform and you don’t already have another wheel. It’s much nicer/better to use than the Fanatec CSR and worlds apart from the cheapest wheel I’ve had which was the Logitech DFGT. Also mounts fine with my Wheelstand Pro (V1).
I can’t remember where it was, but someone posted on the old forums they had found a solution for using the mic with a controller while using their wheel. I’ll try to find it and edit my post.
Thanks SlimyTurt1e yar i was already in that thread and had posted, but only on page 1 of the thread and not been there since to see page 2 and OTGWhiskey’s reply to the thread.
So i went and tried that earlier and turned of my Kinect so it would not see the other controller , i am loosing the will to live with this issue , as tried different things and either got the chat working ok while Forza 5 was running , but the wheel was messed up , then other times as soon as i went into the controller settings in Forza 5 it just kept on crashing every time i went into the controller settings.
BTW does can you get the game sound ALONG with the coms chat to come through the headphones at the same time, ??
I’ve tried this method and it still doesn’t work for me. If I go online and have the mic plugged into the controller I have a random amount of time before my wheels ‘snaps’ to the right and the steering is offset at 10 degrees. I basically just play in silence now online and forget about using the mic with the controller., it’s annoying but I least I can finish a race, the amount of times I’ve been leading and then the wheel mucks up on me…grrrr
Has there been any further progress on this? It’s driving me up the wall, I can’t go more than 5 mins into an online race before my wheel crashes and I have to restart all over again. I spoke to Thrustmaster earlier and they continue to say it’s a T10 problem and that T10 are aware, there ‘should’ be some update at ‘some’ point in the future.
I tried to get my headset / mic working for chat today and it was a nightmare.
I got Chat working using the XB1 controller and had the wheel as the main controller in Forza 5 - so headed off for some online games.
1st race = no throttle - unplugged the wheel and back in again - all worked fine.
2nd race with no changes from the first, just back to the lobby and then into the race - The wheel decided not to work for gear changes via the paddles, I had to use buttons and the force feedback was at Maximum.
3rd race I switched off the XB1 controller and the wheel worked perfectly.
This is mad!
What I can’t understand at all is why there is no wireless headset going direct to the XB1 and no official XB1 headsets on the market yet. It’s bad enough having to use a headset with a wire connected to a wireless controller, but when even that wont work with the TX wheel???
Try this method as per Pete Martin. He posted this on one of the comments on Thrustmaster’s X Team Facebook page. I haven’t tried it yet though.
“Turn on the XB 1. Eject the Forza disc if it’s in the console. Then turn on the controller via the XBOX button on the controller. Using the controller, go to “My games and apps” and, from that screen, select Forza 5. It may ask you if you own the game. If so, insert the disc and select “Cancel”. The game should boot. You have to do these steps because the console will remember the last game controller that was used for the game. Start the game and navigate to your profile and then to controller setup. Choose “LAYOUT 6”, push “A” to accept, then back out to the main page. Turn off the console. Then start the console via the front panel, or voice command and eject the Forza disc. Then turn on the wheel via its XBOX button ( it may start on its own). Using the wheel, again go to My games & apps. From this screen, again choose Forza 5 and again it will ask if you own the game. Insert the disc and again select “Cancel”. Once again the game should boot. Start the game using the wheel. The wheel is now the primary controller for Forza.
Three notes. NEVER use the controller to start the console. And, NEVER turn on the controller untill you’re actually in the game. You can navigate, if you HAVE to, with the controller but use the wheel wherever possible, even to turn on and invite chat, send chat or game invites.
This has worked flawlessly for me every time.
Other notes. The controller will self-shut off after a while. Using a play & charge kit will eliminate that, but for the guys using modded full headsets(Turtle Beach XP300s in my case) there’ll be a large 60Hz buzz when using the charger. And if you have more than one controller mark one as the Forza chat controller.
Sorry for being long-winded, but it’s worth the read.”
I spoke to Microsoft yesterday as this is still an issue and no work around has helped me.
I suggested that they need a USB or Wireless headset option as per the 360.
It really is very bad that this situation has been allowed to occur. Chat is a major part of Xbox gaming.
The TX wheel is Microsoft approved for Xbox so who ever is at fault it’s up to Microsoft to fix it, in my opinion.
How hard would it have been to add a microphone jack to the Xbox one?
I also just don’t understand in relation to todays technology why the Xbox One needs a wire connecting to the controller for chat… It seems so old hat and cumbersome.
I know we have Kinect for chat, but that’s just not suitable as it just picks up room background sounds and as so many people play in a living room with kids and family life going on it just destroys the ability to chat properly.
Come on its been 4 months nearly… We demand a solution.
I’m also eagerly awaiting a fix for this. I’ve got a wife, two kids, a dog and a cat so my house is way too noisy for using the Kinect (sometimes it’s too noisy for a chat headset). I need a mic with a mute button to use along with my wheel.
If I had realised that the wheel didn’t have a mic input, I’d have probably not purchased it. That is a major design omission by Thrustmaster. The fact that Microsoft haven’t implement a fix for using the voice input on a controller at the same time is really frustrating. Maybe they are too busy fixing other issues that affect more users.
I really like the wheel but I can’t use Kinect for chat (too much background noise - not fair for the other racers).
but still have an issue where the controller goes to sleep and disconnects me from chat and have to re connect it to get the chat going again , is that part still normal or is it just doing that for me ??
That’s normal, you’ll either have to flick the stick every so often so the controller won’t go to sleep or use a usb cable to plug it into the console so that it has a constant connection.
