So, it looks like IMSA is going with a 25 car field at Long Beach. With a “lobby” that size (LOL), and based on our 24 car lobbies, I guess we should expect a massive pile up at turn 1, with half the field limping to the pits.
Of course I am joking about the pile up, but it should be interesting to see how the pros handle it.
3 Classes at Long Beach instead of the previous races where there were only 2, so should be interesting. Particularly as many of the pro GTLM drivers have been there before and the Pro-Am PC drivers have not. Still, I don’t expect it to look like a Lobby though, and we probably won’t have too many of the random lockups into the wall on the two 90 degree right-handers that seems to happen in Forza.
Shortest race of the year and not a lot of passing room, mean qualifying and Pit Stops matter much more than usual, or in Forza since we don’t have qualifying and often don’t have Pit Stops.
Street races aren’t my favorite either, but I will be at Long Beach (even though i don’t live anywhere near there) as a last goodbye to the DP cars, since they don’t race at my “home” race. Wonder if I can take the Wayne Taylor car out for a spin to compare…
If there is a race on I will watch it. Favorite setup is to get the IMSA stream so I can hear Radio Lemans making the calls because it just seems proper done in an English accent and those guys just know more about the sport.
What is that car in the front of this picture? It looks weird, the front end is like half the width of the back end. The other cars look normal, is this a “multi-class lobby”?
That is the DeltaWing, an IndyCar concept repurposed into an GT racer, and famous for being absolutely incapable of finishing a race - usually in a hilarious or depressing fashion.
Can you provide the link where this was stated as an IndyCar? I believe it’s main and only purpose was a redesigned LMP. Because IndyCars are only allowed to have 2 body styles… Chevy and Honda.
Here you go. It was originally a concept for the new IndyCar, but they ended up going with a Dallara DW12 if I remember correctly. As ugly as the Deltawing is, I still hope they can win a race eventually.
Not sure if IMSA will stream in the US (Sebring was the first race in a while where they did not), but if you can authenticate a Foxsports1 cable subscription, you can stream on FoxSprotsGo.
I wouldn’t expect a pile-up for one simple reason: in real life, crashing your car into another will cause physical pain, the end of your race and monetary expenses to repair the damage incurred. In Forza there’s no disincentive from trying an overtake that may result in a collision.
Innovation drives motorsports, like Colin Chapman and his mid- and rear-engine cars at Indy and Formula One, or the Audi Diesel-Hybrid entries at Le Mans. What may look or sound funny and impossible leads to adaptations which not only inject more excitement into auto racing, but generate benefits for everyday drivers, too.
There were a few races at Long Beach and I watched them all! I was rooting for Patrick Long in the Porsche but was fine with the Caddy winning. Saturday there was a totally Forza moment in one of the races. Two Corvettes were 1 & 2 with Porsches 3 & 4. The first Vette crashes on his own leaving the other to hold off the Porsches breathing on his bumper. With less than 5 minutes to go take a guess what happens…
the 2nd place Porsche contacts the Vette in the u-turn and spins him out. The 3rd place Porsche passes them both and is off for the win.
