Broken Livery Editor

Are the devs or anyone involved in the feedback of Forza Motorsport aware that the livery editor is a broken mess? Is anything in the pipeline to fix the various problems?
You’re running livery comps & I tip my hat off to the one’s persevering but when you have outlined, drop shadowed decals that you need to ungroup to change the colours they blow apart moving the layers everywhere meaning you have to re do everything. Even just transferring decals from Horizon it saves them at random angles now & that’s not even mentioning the outstanding issues from months ago like unpaintable rims & the wrong shades showing with special base colours.
You’d get a lot more entries & liveries in general if the problems were addressed but nothing seems to be happening. I sent tickets for several vehicles with mirroring issues back in November & not one has been fixed.
Are we just carrying on like everything is ok?

I’ve created a ticket on the excessively long loading times for saved vinyl groups, and they just closed it as “solved” with this explanation:

I really don’t see the point in them marking it as solved without adding it to the known issues list, considering how the issue has been around since launch! They haven’t gotten around to adding the issue in all this time, or don’t they want customers to see how many known issues that have been sent in by the players?

I don’t recognize your issues with ungrouped blowing apart on the Series X - are you on PC?

Series X. I know many who are having the same problem, came after update 8.0. If you ungroup any decal it separates randomly, turns shapes the opposite way, even worse with detailed one’s.
And I get the same with all my tickets, marked as solved going back to November, none of them were fixed.
I just wanna get painting race cars again, some news would be nice but they never let you know if it’s in hand, always been like that. Just wait & hope for the best.

I played around with ungrouping vinyl groups today, and I kind of see what you mean by them separating. Some of my vinyl group parts spun 90°, but that was it. Annoying, but far from as annoying as the excessive loading times.

So I had a quick look in the editor last night, it appears the “exploding” of layer groups when you ungroup them is now fixed but now I can’t import any more layer groups over from Horizon 5 again, a previous issue that was fixed back in November last yr, now back it seems.
Incredible state of affairs, we get no information of when these fixes are done, it’s just wait & see, keep trying & eventually you may find a fix for an outstanding problem…then something else goes wrong, on repeat.
So so bad. I’ll try again next month, hard not to have a moan, just wanna paint race cars like the old days.

The developers at Turn10 don’t seem to care the slightest about the community designers in this game. If they did, the many obvious vinyl group issues that exist since launch combined with the ones that come and go would get higher priority.

It’s like nobody currently employed knows how the vinyl group programming works, since every time they change the slightest thing related to this, something breaks… :rage:

Considering how the community design sharing has been one of features that has defined Forza for years, it’s sad to see how it now seems completely irrelevant to Turn10.

It is sad to see how this side of the game has been neglected, it’s what drew me to the franchise from GT in the 1st place, will take forever to sort out at this rate.
And on another note that ungrouping problem still exists. I must’ve got lucky last night, trying to paint the Merc Touring Car right now & it’s hilariously bad, layers everywhere when ungrouping again. Just sucks all the fun out of it.

Ok I just tried something with the layer groups which seems to fix the problem.
Whatever has changed that made it work last night was because it was on a newly imported set of grouped decals from FH5. Anything you have on your current list of saved layer groups will keep shifting when ungrouped if they are from FH5 (not sure about stuff created on FM as I haven’t done any new one’s on it yet). Delete any you have then re import from FH5. They should now be ok, seems anything before whatever fix was done remains corrupted.

My unscientific testing shows the exploding only happening when you rotate a group of vinyls and then ungroup them. The editor seems to want to place all of the ungrouped layers back to the zero rotation position, which causes the “exploding”.

Also my ticket on this was answered a few weeks ago and I provided the responder with multiple videos of the issue happening over the course of a few days as they tried some fixes. The last communication on my ticket to them on June 18 ended with him saying, “Thank you for this information we are working to fix this issue.”

It’s so random. If I have some grouped logo’s saved at 0 angle when I ungroup them they rotate 90 degree’s. Then when I ungroup the individual logo’s some layers will move in random directions. Now I’ve discovered that when you make a pattern for the base design & copy it for a gradient type overlay they will shift layers too, even if there’s just a few in the group. Just hope it gets sorted, very frustrating to deal with at the moment. And the fix I thought I’d found earlier didn’t work for all new logo groups I’ve re imported either, finding more that still mess up when ungrouped.

The mess after ungrouping a vinyl still exist… nothing changed… even got worse… i ungrouped a design directly on a car… it messed it up completely…

I noticed that the ungrouped sticker does not crash in all directions only if the parts of the sticker previously saved did not have a changed angle and their value was zero… if any part of the sticker had a changed angle, chaos ensues.

And whether it is a sticker or it is a design on the car… for me the problen is with the angles…

And it still exists…

Aha I play on xbox series x

It seems the more time you spend in the editor the worse it gets, new issues keep appearing. I can make a base design with no decals on one side then start on another. When you go back to the other one’s after you’re done they’ve all moved on their own, it’s just like FM2’s layer shifting if you remember that nightmare of an issue.

One step forward… 5 steps back at the moment…

I had severely times an issue while saving a design… game crashed and dropped me back to the dashboard… after a restart the design i was saving were gone… like it never existed…:man_facepalming:

Now it works… no disappearing designs… but how long… :man_shrugging:

Its a hart time for us paniters…

Anyone noticed any changes or improvements in the last month? Just checking in as they never tell you.
You never know, we might get lucky one day.

I haven’t touched the editor since immediately after the last update. Didn’t see any changes for the better.

It’s so infuriating! When I feel the urge to paint, I want to be able to just sit down and paint. But if I do sit down, I lose every ounce of inspiration while I wait for a saved vinyl group to load.

There’s almost no point in even starting the game up anymore, because every time I need a specific car for a career race and I have no self-made livery for it, I just want to scream… FIX THE BASICS OF THE GAME!

I’m not entirely sure the feedback is absorbed like it used to be. I’ve always considered you guys titans in the paint booth, Duff with your awesome logo work, Sweedish with your spot on Nascar liveries. You guys and others always pushed the boundaries in the editor. Sadly it seems like the golden days are behind us, the passion from the Devs seems gone.

Thanks man. Yeah that just seems to be it, the passion for the franchise & the sandbox experience it used to offer is gone along with the people who shared that passion at T10 it seems.
Such a shame, what it was all about for me, creating liveries to show off in online races…the urge has all gone now. Stuck on Horizon doing it for nothing basically because their car models & the way liveries look is just so much better, I don’t even race on it, it’s a car painting game for me & that’s it.

Just now experiencing this issue trying out the editor for the first time… why are the load times so abysmal?

I accidentally clicked “my designs” trying to save my current creation and it’s been stuck on a load screen for nearly ten whole minutes.

That’s just sad lol.

I had all these problems with Forza Motorsport too, I’ve already given up on that game, Motorsport was a huge disappointment for me, the game is all buggy, literally nothing works as it should.

Note: not to mention that it’s impossible to import my drawings from Horizon 5 to it even though both games are from the MS Store.

Got a message from a fellow livery creator that the shifting bug has now been fixed with some other faults too like the matte paint problem & excessive loading times in the editor.
Am currently trying to paint the Merc Touring Car I was having the troubles with for a 3rd time & so far…all is well, no layer shifting.
Thank you to the devs for sorting this problem out as it was a literal game breaker for me. :+1:
