In FM6 I find it hard to tune my brakes. The problem I have is that at the end of the braking line I’m still going to fast to enter my corner. I mostly drive with AWD, so I tried to up my decel in front and rear to 45%, while in FM5 I used only 10% and that worked fine. For some reason it doesn’t in 6. Now I know that the driving physics have changed and I tried to adapt, mostly through stiffen up my rebound and bump, that fixed my sliding (especially with RWD). Also didn’t have that problem in 5.
So, does anyone have an answer for me? I’ve checked the topic of Big Worm in FM5 forum on tuning, it helped on other things, except for my brakingproblem.
Also, if anyone has some tips or a ‘flash tune’ for AWD driving, that’d be very helpfull.
Thanks!
Dennis
PS.: English is not my native language, so I may have written some mistakes here and there.
No I don’t drive manual, only assists off are tcs/stm. When I get home I’ll look into it some more. If anyone else has some other recommendations, would be very welcome.
First things first turn off the ABS and switch to manual… Learn to brake properly without ABS and downshift as the same time…
Reason I say turn ABS off is that once you learn how to brake properly you’ll stop faster on stock brakes without ABS than you can with race brakes and ABS because ABS reduces braking force to prevent you locking up.
Also look at your deadzones on your controller settings. I’m not familiar with worms set ups so I’m not sure what you’ve got set up but you want to allow the weight to transfer to the front. Increasing bump and rebound to an excessive level will actually cause the car to skate instead of grip which will have a bad effect on your braking distance. Try a 50/50 bias and 135psi. Downshift while you’re braking but increase your decel diff lock so you don’t loose the rear under braking.
Well, thanks for the info. Better get my calculator for PSI (pounds per square inch?), that’s for the tires right? I’m currently just above 2.0 bar with tires (front and rear). Tomorrow I’ll post my setup, both here and in flash tunes.
I have been setting brake pressure based on benchmark number to the left as you are tuning. It provides braking distance from 60 foot and 100 foot. I set my brake bias and pressure last and attempt to work within the 90-110% range to find the shortest stopping distance. in the 60 foot distance.
I switched ABS off in Forza 5 and have rarely turned it back on. I can honestly say I’m still not great at it, but would agree with the post above, that when you do get better at it, it shortens your stopping distance when compared to ABS.
I also agree with the suggestion to switch to Manual shifting…Manual with clutch is what I’m using.
I’ve tried switching ABS off in F5, and didn’t have real problems driving without it, but at the time I wasn’t improving my lap times yet, so I switched it back on (comfort zone).
So this is my tuning set-up I’m using most atm (awd):
In metric
Tire pressure front/rear 1.9 bar/beginning 2.0 bar
Camber front -3.5° rear -3.0°
Toe out front/rear +0.3°
Caster default 5.0°
ARB’s front 17.01 rear 10.91
Springs front 87.6 rear 90.0 (some cars I need to stiffen up to prevent serious oversteer)
Ride height mostly one-two clicks less
Rebound front 7.0 rear 5.5
Bump front 6.4 rear 5.8
Aero full front + rear (depends on what circuit I’m using the car for)
Braking power 50/50 on 100%
Differential
Front accel 20% decel 45%
Rear accel 25-30% decel 35-40%
Balance 65%
Try setting your Centre balance to 75-80% then try these %'s 45-50% front acceleration 0% front deceleration 50-60% rear acceleration and 25-35% rear deceleration.
Then set your brake balance to 47% and 125% pressure.
I dont use assists but this should help you.
