Hey everyone, this is officially my first post here in the forum and I figured I’d swallow my pride and ask for a little help. I am currently using the BMW 2002 Turbo for circuit and I would love some advice on tuning. I’m pretty sure I will get some kind of flack from people about the setup I am using but I’m okay with that. My BMW is maxed out as top as it can go for S class right now. It’s fairly unstable but I have learned how to control the beast and get the win most of the time. I was just wondering if anyone might have some suggestions on tuning with this specific car for improved handling. I’m not looking for a complete tune or pre-made tune. Just looking for some advice and opinions on what they would do. I do think it is important to note that I am using AWD. Thanks in advance and hopefully I’m not making a fool of myself…I already do that enough without even opening my mouth.
I won’t give you flak. I’ll give you an atta boy. That’s quite the car to be runnin in S class. I have yet to venture into S class on line. Too fast for me right now. I’m only finish SOMETIMES in C, B and A.
Thank you GroovierWolf3. I just started playing Forza a week ago on a friends account and decided that I MUST HAVE this game! Never played a sim racing game before this. Now that I have it I am slightly depressed because I have to start at the beginning instead of just jumping right on in the heat of it all like I did on my friends account. But I knew that I would have to start at the beginning and its gonna be awesome learning as I go with this game. Not to mention the satisfaction in reaching the same point hes at and the surpassing him. I won’t be needing to tune the car for a while since I’m starting from the beginning but I would still love any advice anyone can give. More in depth advice than just what the adjustments do. I would much rather get advice on what a person would adjust, why they would adjust it that way and how they figured that out. Especially if a person can pinpoint exactly when they either figured out the right adjustment or when they figured out how to get the right adjustment. I’ve always said, knowing how is only half the battle. Knowing why is the other and the deciding factor in success.
I would even love it if someone could give me advice for a BMW 2002 Turbo A or B class tune!
How about an e275?
everything stock except:
street brakes, street weight reduction
race springs/shocks, race anti-roll bars, race differential
adjustable bits:
tire pressure: 29.5/29.5 (depends on the track, somewhat - watch your telemetry, you’re aiming for 32.0 when it’s warmed up… after a lap or two, while trying not to exceed 32.0 by the finish of your race too much anyway, ideally)
camber: -0.9/-0.9 (aiming for even temp across the tire, again from telemetry during your race)
toe: 0.0/0.0 (typical for me, RWD anyway)
caster: 2.6 (I like it pretty low compared to most, I also use sim steering so, YMMV)
these next ones would take a lot of explaining. lest’s just say, ride height dependent …derived from some calcs I do ;^)
anti-roll bars: 13.80/11.10
springs: 557.0/541.5
ride eight: 5.9 (min)/5.9 (half a click up from min)
rebound: 7.7/7.5
bump: 3.0/2.9
differential: 45/45 (most folks tend to go a lot lower. maybe experiment with it and let us know what you like ;^)
now you can go run the BMW 2002 Turbo Spec Series on the event list!
I will most definitely give this a try! I’m guessing this is a tune that you’ve personally tried and done. How did you like it? And why stay in the E class? Not that it matters on why but I’ve always loved knowing why someone chooses one thing over another when they don’t have to. I hope that doesn’t sound condescending.
I think it’s mostly preference thingy.
For example, I like to drive with all assists turned off. Going up to R3 and up everything happens so fast that it’s hard to keep up, I can do it, but I can’t get any faster without investing in racing wheel & pedal setup. Although I’m not too slow to start with.
What it comes to tuning. I like to stay at least somewhat realistic. Leaving out AWD swaps, RWD swaps for FWD cars, although most engineswaps, and aspiration conversions I consider realistic.
2000hp V12 twin turbo AWD smart anyone? =) yeah, nothing realistic in that one.
And then there is certain “limits” so to speak. For example, you can take BMW 2002 Turbo it’s decent in E, Good D, C, and B, still driveable in A. but going up to S it’s not that good anymore It just doesn’t have the handling for it. it’s just too twitchy, and same happens with just about every car when you go “all out” with them.
We could put it this way, Every chassis has it’s limit (hp vice) For example take 2013 Mustang. Anything less than 500hp, is “not quite enough” and anything over 550hp is “too much”.
(as Matt Farah says here)
Also in lower classes the competition is much tighter. Looking at races where I have been in lately. R3’s the fastest guy finishes the race and the last guy just MIGHT make it to finish before race end time DNF’s him. In C class The fastest guy finshes the race, and last guy is over the line in 10 seconds. putting that in distance. in R3 the last guy is almost mile behind the leader, while in C he’s only 300-500 feet behind.
yep, my own… E class because, event list - I could certainly try to tune it into something else, but this is what I had on hand… and yes, I liked it in E. - I look forward to your opinion of my tune.
Not for certain because I haven’t really tried, but I’d bet that putting this car into S, an exercise in frustration. unnecessary frustration as I expect that I would have heard if this car was a giant killer in S! may I should try it? It’s tires/grip/aero are probably not up to it and unless it has some amazing engine swap options, might be lacking power.
look at the leaderboards in S and try a couple of those cars for comparisons sake.
http://forums.forza.net/turn10_postst6509_Tuner-Teacher-needed.aspx Search for this thread you will find some info and PM hackfragment for a little one on one
I’ve actually cruised that thread before posting this. Like I said before, I’d rather get advice from a person who has done the tune through trial and error giving them experience. I’m having a bit of trouble trying to explain myself here haha. I’m basically saying “I want to know why they did it…not just why it was done.” A bit redundant. So I’ll explain it differently. I understand why a person would put a supercharger on a car. Its because it would make it go faster. Why Supercharged, to get more power. But I want to know why they went with that specific brand of Supercharger. Why they didn’t go with a turbo instead. I want to know all the small nuances of why. I hope that explains it a bit better.
Windward, I DO understand what you are looking for and when you speak with Hackfragment as I have several times he explains why he would use certain components over others.
In real world we are both real mechanics., In this game world he is a very good circuit tuner and I am a very good drag tuner.
@Cipher: Thank you for the advice and I will try to get in contact with him soon. I did just recently have a baby so my schedule is extremely tight between working 50 hour weeks and taking care of a newborn.
@DesigningLeek: Awesome and thank you for the suggestions! I will keep in touch as soon as I get a chance to try it out.
@HLR: Sounds like throwing the Turbo into the S class is a huge challenge, almost a burden to drive. I wouldn’t mind that at all. I will probably not come in first as often as I could if I would use a car more suited down the road.
@Everyone. Yes my profile says I haven’t played before. And that is only somewhat true. I was playing on my friends profile when I started this thread. I now have the game and I’ve started my own profile. I did just have a baby so my schedule lacking in free time. I have not had a chance to hop online since I got the game, hence my driver level. But hopefully I will get to one day this weekend, provided that my wife and my kid aren’t as demanding as usual lol.
im currently using a fully suped up bmw 2002 but im using it for drifting, with awd. its amazing, you can dam near catch any drift and wont spin out if you can control it right, large super wide tires.
Putting that car in S class is a bit of a stretch. It’s not exactly an efficient car at that point, and if you’re doing circuit with it, you’ll definitely want to go with RWD. I’m not sure if it reaches 700 PI that way, but even if it does, I wouldn’t recommend going above A class with it, as it’ll just be trouble to drive with no significant benefit. It is a GREAT car in E all the way through A class though. I don’t have a tune for this car, but I’ve wanted one, so I can get cracking on one soon and tailor it to the class(es) in which you want to run it.
