Black Friday Deals - #Forzathon Shop Discussion Thread

Lucky! I’ve still been unable to log in all morning. While I don’t mind the time limited sales it’s pretty crap that PG are incapable of managing their servers.

Is there anyone from the UK here that’s been able to log in at all this morning?

Me, no problems here.

I had logged in about 08:30 an picked the car up at 09:01 from UK …

Huh, I hope there isn’t anything wrong with my game then, it was fine last night.

Ooof that’s a lot of points you have there.

I think you both convinced me to get a new one, I would now feel dirty driving my 15 owner Camaro :stuck_out_tongue:

[double post]

awful

I can feel a leather in my brand new Camaro.

So being the first owner of a car is a thing now, huh?

It was always a thing! But not for everybody  I can’t help myself but don’t want used dirty cars. My game, my rules!

Yup! But only for us that suffer a form of OCD. LOL

Personally, I’d completed everything in the game and wanted a little challenge to keep me interested and being original owner of all cars was it.

Works for me, but obviously won’t for everyone, but so what?

“Each To Their Own” or “To Each Their Own”, depending which side of the pond you’re on.

Just a bit of fun, I kind of feel that the PO cars I won in the auction house aren’t ‘really’ mine because I didn’t meet the original criteria like pre-ordering from Amazon or whatever each car needed. But the ones we got given or bought in-game are ‘legitimately’ mine. It’s just psychological, I know it’s silly but sometimes the world needs a bit of harmless silliness as an antidote for the horrors of reality we face (thinking of the news yesterday) - which is why I think those complaining excessively about this event could do with getting a bit of perspective.

Also by buying another one I’ve increased the total supply and when I sell the old one I will make someone’s day a little bit happier, and that has to be a good thing. (Remember, if these were permanently available to everyone for a low price in the shop then nobody would care about them - it’s the rareness that makes them desirable.)

Has been for a long time.

All of my cars (that is, all of the cars in the game save for the Aston and Porsche POs) have myself as the original owner. So I have all of the cars obtainable by someone who preordered the game (I have the 720S PO). If I have a car from someone else and get another one with my name on it, the old one is immediately replaced.

There was supposed to be a market for auctioned cars with full perk trees but PG never took advantage of it. Worse, people are vulnerable to scammers when buying cars like Miura, R390, etc. I don’t buy exclusives in the AH either as the system is just plain bad. Forza really needs some kind of trade mechanic.

The new car smell is severely underrated!

Some people on this forum really do make you despair.

A pop up showroom somewhere on the map that was open for Black Friday only, what was wrong with something like that? That would have been better for everyone.

Haven’t you people defending this ever heard of sleep, work, friends or family? Why should anyone if they wanted some of these cars be forced to forego at least 1 of those things for no other reason than ‘Tough luck mate you live in the wrong part of the world.’?

And the ignorance from those defenders is incredible, it is blatantly obvious why people aren’t happy.

But with certain ones I’m starting to think PG would have to make FH4 hack their credit card details, empty their account and proceed to make their Xbox explode before they even start thinking their precious PG gets it wrong sometimes.

There is finally something in the store that is right up your alley.

Some ‘unimpressed’ glasses.

You’re right at the top of that certain people list, I’m surprised you can even see what you’re typing with how far up PG’s hole you always are.

LMAO! Post of the Day! Congrats! :joy:

Yes, but to an extent. FH4 is no different than, say, a movie. Both can be a waste of time if an individual doesn’t find either of those to be of value to them at a given time. But they both exist to provide entertainment to an individual and nothing more than that. If someone feels that they’re wasting their time doing either activity at any given moment, then that’s probably a good time to be doing something else.

That’s an excellent suggestion! There are other games out there that do themed events for the holidays. I think that might be a good way to bring something new to the game during special occasions; so that those who’d feel compelled to act upon their uncontrollable urges don’t feel as though they’re being taken advantage of from a promotion/event that was meant to be tongue-in-cheek.

Personally, the one type of “official” race that I have yet to see on the Playlist is one based on X-Class cars. For that reason I don’t tune any of my cars above S2. For me it would be a lot of fun to see that on very, very rare occasions so as not to make the event feel ordinary. A decent credits/FP payout might also help to emphasize the special nature of the it.

Again, excellent idea!

Media environment I referred in my post includes all media, films, series, novels, social media etc. I don’t think you get it how that “game” is played. Say film, something that lot’s of people know, “300” which was about Spartans, is useful if you know the actual history. If you know that lot’s of Spartan reputation came from hundreds of years of fan boys romanticism and freak show latter era Sparta put up because of tourism LOL you can tell about that AND you can tell a lot more, leading to understanding of what really virtual and what’s reality. And that in certain ways what we have also many fables from past in our virtual digital space influencing real space, something that looks something quite innocent, like Master Chief, product of Spartan program in Halo. LOL

A lot could be said but not really discussion for these forums.

Just saying, according to how many have used rentals in past Trials, having every car in game just doesn’t seem to be that popular way to play the game that it may appear based on posts on this forum. Some cars, Apollo, Bugatti, Divo and Ferrari Pista for example are hot things, poster cars of today but quite often it’s that their appeal plays on brand, visuals aspects sort of potential. In game I found Bugatti Divo to be pretty good for Forzathon Live events and that’s about it. So practically lots of these end up in collecting virtual dust in virtual garages and collectors never learn but keep waiting for the next supposedly great car.

Some of this can’t be avoided, players expect to have these poster cars in racing game, it’s natural and huge selling point for Horizon but there’s danger here, sandbox with lot’s of toys but not enough sand and that won’t be good but for car collectors.

For this event it would have been easy to have less cars overall and some repeats instead, mattering most with Camaro PO I guess. The whole some sort of morale aspect, I don’t subscribe it. I ask from myself why it’s that players in Canada had to have their shot at it at terrible time bracket and I got nothing. And taking stance like better them getting messed over than me just doesn’t cut it. Next time it could be my time zone so not a solution. I actually really liked the whole setup for this and it’s a pity that it came to this. PG did really good work there, but in the end time zone differences are as much a reality as work that went to set up all this.

Thanks.

My understanding about X-Class is, that it’s tricky because it doesn’t work like other classes. Number doesn’t tell much anything about performance as there’s no real upper limits, which makes it hugely unbalanced. This is by design. Creating good X-Class Horizon experience for most of the players is quite difficult without additional restrictions but perhaps with baby steps. They can predetermine cars we have in Showcases, so perhaps showcase with Jet plane might work as base, get data how players manage it at first or something.

The unfortunate realization is that PG needs to consider playing the role of “parent” whenever they design promotions for the very reason of the game being too “important” to some of the player base. What transpired over the weekend is a very sobering look at something quite disturbing underneath the surface. I think that you hit the nail on the head that PG is inadvertently fueling the car collecting culture here because it’s an easy way to provide content that excites the Community. Maybe “The Eliminator” event will be something that can help to minimize the strong fixation on “things” and to put the focus on experiences instead.

I think the irony is that X-Class could be easier for some players to handle than S2. The reasoning for this is because balancing a car’s upgrades within a class restriction requires having to make compromises in one area of concern for another area. I would think that a hypothetical X-Class event would only be for the fun of “stretching the legs” of some of these cars in a silly way. In other words, it’d be an exhibition rather than a serious competition. So it would just be a participation-rewarded event with no real significance other than for bragging rights.

I fully agree on the disturbing aspect of collector culture in games, and the fact that this is what PG has chosen to focus on in FH4 to generate excitement is one of the root causes of my frustration with them. I’ve got enough of the personality that’s attracted to this sort of thing to recognize how addictive and potentially abusive it can be. I’m a bit more skeptical on this being accidental however given how prevalent these sorts of things are in the games industry, and how deeply integrated things like wheelspins are in the core game design.

Still, I fully agree that PG needs to step up and do better about not focusing so much on this part of the game. We already have far more cars available than anyone can realistically use, now we need more interesting events and content with which to utilize the cars we already have.
