Behind The Wheel

Hey all wheel racers. Thought I’d start a thread to share wheel driving tips and advice. I recently purchased a TX wheel and I’m loving the experience. I’m finding it’s a lot about technique and also having your wheel settings right. I am currently still about 1.5 seconds a lap slower than with a game pad, and hopefully more practice will narrow the gap and make me a better driver. When using the game pad, it’s like the car is on rails now, no comparison, although up till now I’ve always been happy playing that way. Anyway, tips and stories and experiences welcome. Thanks.

there are loads of settings to adjust, but the biggest difference will be between SIM and NORMAL steering in the assists menu with regards to consistent lap times. I find SIM steering much more fun, but I definitely am slower on average using it.

Here is what I use for racing.

The 1st group of settings is as close of a feeling to a SIM as I could make it at this time. So if you want a challenging but realistic FFB feeling from FM7 this is the one to try. This is by no means an easy way to play Forza, but you did not buy a wheel to make Forza easy.

The second group of settings is what I consider a little easier to catch over steer with. This setting a very similar FFB feeling, but the degrees of rotation are lower and it makes it easier to handle big moments in my opinion.

900* degree of rotation wheel settings SIM STEERING
Steering …1-100
Accel…0-100
Decel…0-95 (Remember I have a well broken in brake pedal. Decrease if you have trouble getting max braking)
Clutch…0-60
E-brake…0-50
Vibration scale…35
FFB scale…100
Wheel Rotation…900
Steering Lin…68
FFB under steer…100
FFB min…100
Wheel damper…5
Center Spring…100

660* degree of rotation wheel settings SIM STEERING
Steering …1-100
Accel…0-100
Decel…0-95 (Remember I have a well broken in brake pedal. Decrease if you have trouble getting max braking)
Clutch…0-60
E-brake…0-50
Vibration scale…30
FFB scale…100
Wheel Rotation…660
Steering Lin…55
FFB under steer…100
FFB min…100
Wheel damper…5
Center Spring…100

The third group of settings are what I use for drifting NORMAL STEERING

480* degree of rotation wheel settings NORMAL STEERING
Steering …1-100
Accel…0-100
Decel…0-95 (Remember I have a well broken in brake pedal. Decrease if you have trouble getting max braking)
Clutch…0-60
E-brake…0-50
Vibration scale…0
FFB scale…90
Wheel Rotation…480
Steering Lin…55
FFB under steer…100
FFB min…100
Wheel damper…5
Center Spring…100

So much variation in advice on settings. In the FFB thread it states there is no difference between normal and sim if using a wheel though? I will give these a try though I am happy with my current settings. Centre Spring is one I struggled with too.

There is no difference in the strength or detail of the FFB between SIM and normal steering. But there is a huge difference in difficulty. If you want to see it clear as day go drive the Shelby 427 cobra with all assists off and switch between the two, the difference is clear as a bell.
