Becoming a 'Legend'

Hi, I have been told, that to list a 20,000,000 [20 millions] ‘buyout’ price on a 26,000 [26 thousands] auto-show cost car, [car is ‘stock’ not tuned, and has the livery of a rank 5 painter] I would need to achieve ‘Legend’ status within the game.

can anyone tell me;

  1. at what point does a ‘standard player’ become a ‘legend’ … is there an exact ranking/rating?
  2. where in the game does it show a player’s status? i.e. Beginner, seasoned, champion, legend?
  3. what criteria is used to promote to ‘legend’/ [shares, downloads, influence, likes? is there an exact calculation or level of each required]
is there anything i can do to get more livery downloads [seems only those with huge download figures already get featured or recommended]

Pretty sure you need 50k + downloads across all your tunes for tuner lvl 5 or 50k across paints to be lvl 5 and that’s when you get it

Level is separate. I’m painter level 6 with under 1,000 downloads and am not a ‘legend’. (I don’t know where it would say, but I do know I have the same draconian auction limits as a new player would have).

I currently have just over 5000 tune downloads and am rank 9 tuner; designs I have shared 148 with almost 9000 downloads but I am rank 5 designer/painter.

thanks for you response, NINE DyLeMa.

I hope someone has the exact figures … playground games cant even supply me with them

No one on their right mind would buy a 26k autoshow car for 20 million credits when they can get it for 26k

Well, it would make sense if that car had an incredible and unique livery.

Personally, I think the rewards that legend painters get makes no sense. I think they should get monetary rewards, and stuff like avatar rewards, but not special treatment in the AH. If their paintjob is really legendary, it will sell for a lot. What we currently have is if people get enough people to download their designs, they get the keys to the AH … and that has nothing to do with painting. Most of the cars I’ve seen with a 20 million CR buyout didn’t have a livery at all.

Exactly my point
Actual real legend painters do not get rewarded properly but ones that spam garbage plain paints do for minimal effort
A 26k car in the autoshow even with a actual amazing paint will still not get 20 million
These so called “legend” painters and their plain(anyone could do) liveries which they put on rare cars just to rip everyone off
The auction house is just full of rorters and really should be overhauled

Depends on what paint is on it. There are some private paints out there I’d gladly pay 20 million for. There’s a ton of work gone in to these paints and it’s not like there are lots of other stuff to spend large amounts of in-game credits on when you already got most of the exclusive cars you want.

PG it’s not offically dont tell that but i think it’s safe bet that limit is same than it was fh3, so compined 50k downloads/uses/likes either tunes or designs.

And one bad thing when looking cars on auction house you cant tell is that design available to download or not so even if somebody make really good unique paintjob you have no way to know is that designs unique or not. I like fm4 system a lot more.

Yeah, the legend/AH system in FH4 is utterly broken. All “legendary” means is that the player knows how to game the rating system, but the reward is so OP that it breaks any semblance of fairness on the AH.

As far as I can tell, all that’s involved in getting legendary status is to keep constantly putting up new paintjobs. The recommended designs page favors new designs, so by continually putting up new designs for reasonably popular cars so you maximize your chances of being listed. Even if your paintjob is a simple color swap, as long as it isn’t hideous it will probably still get downloaded, especially since when buying a new car the first thing that’s shown is the designs page, not the manufacturer colors.

I randomly shared a red and gold paintjob for the Lambo Centenario and got a few hundred downloads without really even trying even though it’s just a simple red colorshift paint with gold highlights on the rims and the body with the new paint zones. If that’s what players will download, then it’s honestly not really worth the effort to make a really fancy paint to level up the paint rank unless you’re doing it for your own enjoyment.

It’s a big shame too since this system was utterly broken in exactly the same way in FH3, but the devs didn’t do anything about it for FH4.

IMO it’s really not worth it. I’ve put some tunes up, and have a massive 271 downloads. In the time playing the game to produce those, I’ve made enough money to buy all the cars in the game anyway, so even if I had the ability to sell cars for 20m, I’d have nothing to spend it on. So to me, you may as well just play the game, especially if you have VIP, as you’ll gradually rack up enough money just doing that. If you’re a prominent youtuber, and can reach legendary status really quickly, then I can see it making sense, but otherwise, the time spent gaming the system might as well be spent getting better at driving the tracks instead.

If you could direct me to those rules I would be grateful and if I have broken the forum rules I will apologise and remove the offending link. Thank you for drawing this to my attention

I’ve removed it for you.

Please do not ever post such a thing again.

If I had known, I wouldn’t have done so, I’m sorry I breeched any rules. Thank you for editing my post.

Can you please tell me where I can find the forum rules, I obviously need to read them through to avoid any further such incident.

thank you

I have since noticed that the complete post was removed and not just the offending link … can you advise me what other than the ‘link’ was a breech of rules?

3 days later and no reply from the moderator who removed my post [within minutes]. I appreciate he/she maybe busy with more important issues within the forum and in the real world. I will check back periodically in the hope I have a response to the question.

  • It’s never been officially confirmed, but most assumptions are that Legend status requires 50K combined downloads, likes and uses of either tunes or paints (50K each). That was the requirement in FH3 so that’s why the assumption stands to reason. Also, the Legend status appears to be a separate thing from painter/tuner level 5 in FH4. In FH3, painter/tuner level 5 and Legend status were achieved together.

  • Painter/tuner level is shown in the Horizon Life section. I am not a tuner but believe the tuner level caps at 20. Someone else may be able to confirm that. The logical assumption would be that painter level also caps at 20, but I follow a number of the better, more established painters in the game and have never seen anyone with a painter level higher than 8. If you’re wanting to track downloads, likes and uses … that total is not shown anywhere in the game as a calculated number … you’ll need to add them up for each shared design individually outside of the game in a spreadsheet or something. As for individual numbers for tunes, I don’t think the game lists likes and uses for tunes anywhere at all.

  • It has never been officially explained how painter/tuner influence is gained to level in those areas and it is not explained in the game itself anywhere. The influence/leveling system for painters seems to be broken compared to the same for tuners. I can vouch for this from personal experience. Initially, I leveled through painter ranks fairly quickly. But, all of that stopped eventually. I continue to paint, share paints, and get thousands of downloads, likes and uses of shared paints daily but my painter influence earned has stopped completely and my painter level has not moved even a bit in at least a couple of months. Who knows how it works, what you’re supposed to do to level painter status at higher levels or if the system even works properly at all. We have been asking the devs for an explanation since launch and have not received anything yet. Most have given up trying to get any explanations or official responses about the painter leveling system and just let it do whatever it will do.

  • The best way to get downloads, likes and uses is to enter and win one of the official livery contests on the forums. That will get the winning design featured status so that everyone buying that car will see your paint first. Short of that, the next most important factor is car choice. You can have the best most unique paint in the world, but if it’s on a car that no one uses, you still won’t get many downloads. Other things that will help are to post a gallery of your work here in the Paint Booth sections of the forums or post your completed work on social media.

thank you very much indeed PTG Wildcat

So I had a look further into the exact calculations following this thread.

Popularity is calculated by the following within livery or tunes: downloads x likes x uses.

Hope this helps!
