Bathurst is Magnificent

I was referring to the default FOV in FM23, I haven’t touched it since launch and don’t know what the adjusted FOV looks like. It’s nearly the same as FM5 which is perfect.

You can play FM6 and 7 yourself to see the fish eye lens effect I was referring to.

All the Horizon games after 2 have the exact same effect, making objects look tinier that they would actually be IRL relative to the car.

Why are you feeling sorry? We have it really good actually. For just $500, a visual showcase. Well, it’s improving - neither console or PC version is quite there yet, but much better than launch.

The game was primarily built around the Xbox and looks really good as of today. No RTGI though, and that’s totally fine. Perhaps in a future update. Just maybe.

Whilst I live the glitz of RTGI, the representation of Bathurst is beautiful on XSX.

Looks even better at night and with rain too, sunrise, sunset as well.

The track is great, but after one multiplayer event, maaaan, people got to learn how to drive the track and where and when to pass. The usual turn 1 chaos, if you’re mid pack, be prepared to get smashed! Trying to pass in the dippers is just nuts. I bet a lot of people’s Safely Ratings are going to get smashed on this track.

Its a technical track and things can get out of hand pretty quickly. Hopefully it forces people to try to be more patient and drive more cleanly.

Idk why it bugs me so much that they used generic trees instead of the iconic, Aussie-native Eucalyptus trees that are in most renditions in other modern titles. It doesn’t feel very Australian as a result

I might have to go back but I’m p sure they’re generics with maybe different trunks. Like the same issue with the Nordschleife; the foliage density is pumped up to make it pretty even if that makes it less true to life

Example of irl tree

AMS2

GT7

Super neckbeardy nitpick though, it is pretty for sure

And FM’s trees look like they’re from Paper Mario or Borderlands.

The messages on the wall aren’t the same as the real wall but I appreciate that T10 at least tried to keep them in game.

Pretty sure it got vandalised back in 2020 and repainted over anyway (that photo looks to be from the 10-year anniversary in '16), not sure how much of the original messages were saved. Plus it’s an evolving thing anyway, like the tags on the Nordschleife.

I dunno dude, the first thing I noticed was that they did use native trees and not generic ones.

Looks pretty similar to your IRL shot above.

I don’t have access to FM23 anymore to do a side-by-side. I’ve played hundreds of hours of FM6 and 7 and never noticed this fish-eye effect you speak of. Honestly, your comments are the first I’ve heard anyone mention it. Maybe it’s only from certain camera views e.g. chase? I always play in hood view and can’t say I’ve ever felt the need to adjust the default FOVs. Maybe it’s just one of those things some people are more sensitive to…perception is reality and all that. :man_shrugging:

Good to know! I was chomping at the bit for this track to be released - it was always one of my favourites. I won’t get the chance to rinse it until the weekend but am definitely looking forward to it.

You can’t be serious right? Are you mucking about? Everybody was talking about the zoomed out/fish eye FOV in FM6 and 7 and every Horizon game that came out after FM6.

FM5’s FOV was perfect and when the tracks had a zoomed out look in the subsequent two games where everything looked smaller than it is IRL, people picked up on it right away.

No, actually I’m not kidding. I literally just googled “forza fish eye fov”, and in the handful of reddit threads that came back, the majority consensus seemed to be that past Forza titles had an FOV that was too small, i.e. zoomed in too far, i.e. the exact opposite of “fish eye”. :man_shrugging:

We all have perfectly good pairs of eyes. Do a run or two in FM5, then 6 and 7. You’ll see precisely what I mean. Then see real life videos of the same track from the driver’s perspective. FM6 and 7 made everything look too wide, tiny, and zoomed out for obvious reasons. The tracks were not as detailed and true to scale as they were in FM5. Sometimes, developers zoom out the FOV to hide certain inconsistencies and imperfections.

Play FH2 and then play 3 and 4. You’ll find the same effect in the latter two, smaller/zoomed out objects.

I don’t have access to most of those older games anymore. All I can say is that I’ve never noticed what you’re talking about, and it seemed odd for you to mention it when I have never heard anyone else say what you were saying. If that’s your impression of these games and how you perceive them to look, who am I to tell you you’re wrong? Would still love to see a direct side-by-side to illustrate, but whatever at this point I guess.

I don’t necessarily go by popular opinion or the norm and just use my own pair of eyes.

You’re implying that there is something wrong with the way my visual perception works? Look, if you have all their games, play all of them, then see for yourself.

Also, have you done any RL track driving? Does the world around you look zoomed out as if you’re about to go into warp speed on the Star Trek Voyager?

Did I say there was anything wrong with it? As human beings, we’re all prone to interpret things differently. We all have different tolerances and expectations - what bothers one person may be no big deal or even imperceptible to another. I was simply hoping you could provide some visual evidence so that I could “see what you see”.

As I’ve mentioned a couple of times already, I no longer have access to most older Forza titles (I’m on PC, and FH4 and FM7 are the only ones I’ve purchased for that platform. I used to have game pass, which was how I played FM23, but I canceled my subscription several months ago.)

I have. And no, it does not. But neither have any of the Forza games - to me.

Then this discussion is pretty much pointless since you haven’t owned FM5 and FH2. Good day then.

I never said I haven’t owned them. I said I no longer have access to them. (I’ve played every Forza - both Motorsport and Horizon - for hundreds of hours each). But whatever, you’re right - since you don’t seem interested in providing any visual evidence, and since I don’t have the means to find any on my end - this has all become rather pointless.
