So, everybody already knows that Eliminator is utterly despised by the community, because of how unfun it is and how FH5’s map was made purely for it, yadda yadda yadda, reddit forums youtube, everywhere
I want to make a short couple of notes about how Eliminator can be fun, because it very much was in FH4 while in FH5 it’s just a bunch of misery. I’ll also note that I’ve won countless Eliminator games, and I do feel fairly confident saying that I have experience in that mode, however most of those wins were in FH4, so without further ado:
- Balance the car roster
- Make the props deal no slowdown whatsoever (at least the miniscule ones, big ones should still be a threat)
- Consider changing the destination system so that it tries to pick a side where both cars can fairly point towards, so no more X goes east, Y goes west upon initiating, X wins because the destination spawned east, feels cheap
- Map is probably so hated already that it doesn’t need a proper mention
With that said, let me expand upon the two main ones
Cars… this is 95% what is wrong about FH5’s Eliminator, period. In FH4 you had a wide roster of cars that while different had several characteristics that made almost every single one viable to play:
- They’ve fit their tier in terms of performance
- They had at least somewhat comparable offroad capabilities
FH5 has:
- Lightweight roll frame on four wheels and a wasp engine that gets slowed down the millisecond it hits a fence (bonus points for the RWD)
- A tier 2 car that can actually compete with as high as a tier 6 car
- A tier 9 car that can actually compete with as high as a tier 6 car
- An RWD track car that can absolutely NOT accelerate on anything other than tarmac
- A mid tier car that caps out at below 200km/h making it useless on most of the map
FH4 felt great because it felt like somebody put an actual thought into the car balance, feels like those cars were driven, compared, and genuinely ranked, it felt like you’re relying just on your pathfinding skills, if you lost, most of the time it felt and still feels that you’re mostly at fault
FH5 feels like you have a chance of losing at the very beginning just because you got a JCW Buggy that can’t outaccelerate a Beetle, or that you’re losing to a much worse car because it has AWD and you don’t, or you lose agains’t a Tier 2 Audi RS in your Tier 5 DeBerti in a straight drag race, IT FEELS MISERABLE
Make the miniscule props either disappear or deal no speed loss, just cosmetic destruction
It’s been a problem in FH3, in FH4 and especially in FH5, I’ve had so many situations where I was blazing top speed through bushes or props or whatever and I was just slowed down to almost a standstill because I’ve hit the very exact same bush or plant I’ve been hitting countless times for the past 10 seconds, the physics are just buggy, and they hamper a proper offroad race experience, this isn’t much of a problem in cross country, but these have predetermined paths with props cleared out, the mode doesn’t
Heavy props should remain, a rock fence definitely shold slow you down if you mow down solid 10 meters of it, but that’s your fault for doing so, same with a tractor or a car that’s been parked somewhere, they are big and visible, but you can’t avoid small props as they are just everywhere, and some cars are just too light to compete with such an amount
That’s about it, I wish I could love FH5’s eliminator just as much as I loved FH4’s
