Automatic

My biggest hope is a realistic automatic with kickdown and everything. I would love to cruise around in a Bentley fully automatic with realistic gear changes. What are your opinions?

that would definitely help those who run an automatic transmission!

Won’t happen unless the core dynamics of the game are re-written, Forza assists are exactly that, they make driving easier but slower. Want to drive an automatic? Be prepared to be slower than someone using manual/w/clutch. It’s not realistic but it’s well established.

I totaly get that. I use a 3 pedals shifter and steering wheel. But if I got a big Bentley it would be perfect with a solid Automatic.

Or learn manual. It’s not very hard, Take you a week and you will never look back. You have a few months.

Yeah em,some of us can’t do that due to physical problems, the manual high horse is crazy here!!!

T Rex - just trying to be fair to Leetorts here. He was replying to the Op who mentions owning a wheel with shifter set up - which you could assume from that, he is able bodied enough to use that set up.

This thread isn’t necessarily about balancing auto transmission so that less able bodied people can compete. A noble sentiment no doubt, the Op would just like a more authentic auto transmission available to use.

I’m sure it grates every time someone suggests using manual is easy but in this case I don’t believe any slight was suggested or intended.

Good points sir, however if auto was even more realistic it would help, some autos these days can shift faster than manuals can.

Indeed, double clutch thingy ma whatsits - very clever stuff.

In the next few years we may even see driverless cars that can compete on track with pros. Although that maybe more than a few years away, it’s still a possibility & probably being worked on by someone somewhere.

Back on topic, an auto transmission with kickdown would be pretty cool to try out - only time will tell whether this is a feature. If not - Op try adding it to the wishlist, who knows Forza 8/Fh5 could be the one to implement it

Not everything was meant to be driven in manual anyway. I tried driving the Crown Victoria with manual and it just made me feel dirty and uncomfortable.

It’s just that I drove auto for a very long time and really it was not that hard to switch. Way easier than I imagined. Granted if you have a physical problem I wouldn’t expect you to learn manual.

Agree!!!

I don’t think the devs care much about these details anymore. It would be cool, but it’s safe to say it won’t happen. All Forza games since I remember have this unique feeling; as if it’s the same game over and over with tweaks on handling and updated graphics. But everything else is the same.

I’ve only done automatic in these games, except for the odd crazy achievement along the way :). Not driving IRL I don’t have a feel for gearing, and I feel that THAT makes the game more like hard work. It would be nice to have better parity with the manual folks, but I don’t expect it.

Hey, that would actually be pretty cool, especially in my Chevrolet ZR2. It would be nice if when you let off the gas, the rpms drop like when you press the clutch.

Proper Automatic gearshift is long overdue for a game that’s marketed as casual and cruise-friendly. The current “Up at RPM/Down at RPM” system has been around for what, 25 years? How long will it take to move forwards?

Variable gear choice and shift points based on current and recent throttle. Optimized shift points by power band (looking at the WRX #199 without cam upgrade, and Top Gear E350).

I would love it if you could actually choose between manual and automatic transmissions in the upgrades, and automatic transmissions just weighed more and cost more.

Then we would have to ask for proper torque converter simulation, which they’d never deliver.
