Audio - Front tires get muted during most races (1956365)

Posted a more detailed version under “Report New Issues” as it seemed more appropriate there.

Tire sounds seem to get far away over time to the point they aren’t audible at all. It started when I bought the 2024 Mustang Dark Horse. Then, it seemed like it happened to any car I drive. When I let all the tires hit the grass however, the issue goes away and I can hear my tires again temporarily.

Windows 10 - RTX 3060 12gb - Intel Core i5 12400F - Realtek Audio with Voicemeeter Banana (VAIO). Also, NVIDIA Broadcast for mic noise suppression.

UPDATE: @Bebel7466 helped find a workaround. Only confirmed on PC right now though, but if both an Xbox Controller and FFB Wheel are connected at the same time the tire sound bug is gone! Beautiful! Maybe that’s why so few of us experienced this bug. Most are on controller and/or have both plugged in simultaneously. I might actually start playing everyday again! Let’s GO! (dunk btw but the hype is still real).

Bug Info: Front tires get muted until they hit grass or sand, then get muted again after a few minutes. It isn’t consistent either. Some races it happens, other ones it doesn’t. But it lasts the entire race/session. Not track specific from what I can tell. Bug persists even after reinstalling the game. EDIT: Rear tires get muted a while after the front tires do. Just found out after completing a medium length Multi-Class race at Indianapolis Speedway GP Circuit.

Here’s a short video I recorded during a “Test Drive” race mode at Suzuka Full. Used max front brake bias to lock the front tires up and even muted the engine to make it as obvious as possible. Use headphones to hear the single tire I “unmute” by running just the right tire off the road.

Platform: Windows PC (Game Pass)
Edition: Standard with the 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse Add-On
Account: Solo Account
PC GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 12gb Driver Version 566.14
Peripheral: Logitech G920 Racing Wheel and Pedals
Attempted fixes: Rebooted PC, reinstalled the game, updated drivers and toggled spatial audio to no avail.
Content Update: Started happening around the time the 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse was released.

I’m playing on Xbox Series X too, and I’ve experienced the same thing. The tire squeal sound disappears, but it comes back when I drive on dirt.

Thanks for sharing the video! I was planning to report this bug as well, but it happens randomly and I couldn’t record it.

The same problem on Xbox series X.

Unfortunately, shame on you Forza… Always something.

Tires quiet during brakes, turns etc.

Really no one else notices this?

Happens for me EVERY race now and happens much faster. It has been gradually getting worse every day it seems.

The game is currently unplayable. Sad, because I bought a steering wheel especially for this game. This is pathetic.

Voted, both threads. Same issue here, Series X, performance RT, output set to DA and DA with headphones.

As of now the tire sound bug still persists. The front tires seem to quiet down after around 1 minute. Still not absolutely certain that it’s car dependent but I’ve been driving my self tuned '02 BMW M3-GTR since release, more-so with this BMW Challenge Series (loving it btw). Though I’ve been able to adapt to this bug using the Pneumatic Trail Scale (FFB setting) to feel the front tire slip in my wheel (to an extent as it doesn’t seem entirely accurate), I feel like I could be faster if I had the auditory feedback as well. Not to mention, the braking zones get really difficult after ~10 min of endurance racing, not being able to hear my REAR tires lock up (Mostly rear brake bias tuner).

Also, this audio bug had me speculate that the sounds of the tires are separated in thirds? As the front tires lose sound, it sounds like I hear less of the inside or outside tire over time. There’s a certain dissonance in timbre, if you will, that seems to gradually go away over time. I’m thinking it has to do with each section of the tire that Forza’s telemetry details as it is in thirds. Inside, middle and outside.

Just my drunken introspective on the subject. Apologies if this came off as a bit of a rant. To be honest, I find the development of this game intriguing and hope that it does exceedingly well in the long run.

Much love,

I’m asking someone to confirm. Recently, when playing on a gamepad, it seems as if the problem did not occur or was not as bothersome as on the steering wheel. I will add that when using the steering wheel, my Trueforce is disturbed. Sometimes it doesn’t read sounds at all. Maybe there’s a reason somewhere here?

I’m using Logitech G923, with Trueforce

Duuuude! You’re definitely on to something! I did a few laps on controller (terribly I might add) and didn’t notice any issue with the tire sounds. I used the full front brake bias to be sure after a couple laps and yeah it was totally fine. So, I have the G920 (the Xbox variant without TRUEFORCE) but you got me thinking. The bug very slowly got worse over time. By the time the Mustang Dark Horse was released (Update 13 I think) I got it like the day after and then noticed the front tires would quiet down quite a bit. Perhaps this bug has something to do with the TRUEFORCE update (Update 11) but was a slow burn bug that got worse over time.

So, you got me to think of a little test. After trying with both Xbox controller and Logitec G920 connected at the same time, for science. And duuuude!!! After the first minute on the track, no issue! Holy freaking workaround Batman! I mean @Bebel7466 lol I tried a few more times on different tracks and holy $#^*!

I know you’re on Xbox but I want you to try the same thing. If you have already, maybe using your Xbox controller wired might work. But as far as PC goes, having both wheel and Xbox controller connected at the same time is a successful workaround. Even though I don’t have TRUEFORCE on my G920, I have a hunch that it might play a big part of the problem. BTW I’m using a MOGA Xbox controller, the one with a phone clip and built in battery to charge the phone with. And sorry for wall of text. I’m drunk and excited about our collaborated effort lol Add me on Xbox, we gotta race together my dude. Cheers!

EDIT: drunk spelling and grammar fixes. not sure I got them all

Alright so I was playing with this workaround for a bit until the bug happened again after I restarted the game but I think it’s cuz I didn’t touch my Xbox controller after I restarted the game. Just speculating here, as always, but use the Xbox Controller to navigate the menus till you have to drive. Maybe even drive a few seconds with the Xbox controller before using the FFB wheel. Mess around with it and let me know if this worked for ya!

If there isn’t a fix for this on the next update, I might be done with FM and maybe even gamepass in general tbh as wheel users don’t seem important enough for bug fixes. This was my favorite game up until this bug became a thing for wheel users. Which sucks as the tuning aspect is very in depth and works extremely well with the very enjoyable physics model and MOSTLY well implemented FFB (I have gripes about the pneumatic trail scale and not feeling exactly when the front tires lose grip but not a huge deal as I was able to compensate with practice).
