Since last update, auctions are artificially stretching time itself after it gets down to <1M/Ending Soon. You throw in a bid at any time post Ending Soon (hereafter ‘ES’) and the counter resets to a nebulous ~1 Min, giving several bidders time to bid it up, and making even more uncertain the eventual, final point at which it decides there’s a difference between ~1M and 0:00/auction-close. This is new behaviour in FH5 and it really seems like a scummy and artificial trick to artificially inflate auctions, particularly at off-peak times. If this is by design, it was easy enough to spot, so, uh, either do away with the countdown timer if it’s not an honest one or put it back to prior behaviour, huh? I just came off the second low-stakes/low-desirable auction that reset itself to 1M from ES with each bid only to arbitrarily end without even hitting the ES state, with the item in question having been erstwhile bid up, in $50K increments, at least by $450K from honest-countdown-ES. You can’t filch the clock, guys, it’s abumdantly obvious what’s happening. Why is this a thing?
If they really changed that, it’s a good thing. That’s how real auctions work, and it doesn’t let people auction snipe.
They still never fixed “your bid failed” while the auction is still open…seriously, that bug goes back to FH4 and it’s still here?
Same happens for me in FH4 and 5
It’s updated in both fh4 and fh5. I see it as an improvement since it removes a lot of the toxicity in bidding. Fh3 is this way.
Knight, I think that is fixed with this change but I didn’t test much. I have no patience left for bidding so I buy out or move on.
What @Scimmia22 said! I’ll have to check this out but yes it should be this way. You should be able to bid up a car. That’s real world auction bidding. And they should dump the buy it now option to make it real. That’s just an ebay trick to get more auctions through their system.
Removing the buyout doesn’t make sense but sure would maximize engagement.
Leaving the buyout in is a non-issue really. But an option to turn it off or to set a blind reserve would be a nice feature.
Nope…I was trying to pick up a Galant a few days ago (after this change was implemented) and I was only able to get two bids in out of probably 20 attempts. Ended up saving up to get 20mil and buying one out later.
That’s how real auctions work
If you have a live auctioneer, sure. But when you have a countdown clock you’re doing a timed auction and bidders should expect that it ends when it says it’s going to end. I realise this isn’t a practicable difference in a videogame, but it worked properly before and then they changed it so it works a different way, with the result that players spend a whole-helluva-lot-more time minding dwindling auctions, and at the end of the day this is a videogame, and should incentivise players to actually play the game rather than manage time to remain close enough to the auction screen as well as having to closely monitor the forever-ends of those auctions they’re involved in. After this change the minding of auctions has become the primary mode of engagement with the game; there often isn’t enough time to run across the map to run events, new tracks, or whatever because you have no idea how long such will take and if it takes an extra five or ten minutes then you lose that opportunity. Have two or three cars you want at once, all you’re doing that session is sitting auctions. It’s not fun, and I would hope the devs would want to, you know, point players toward a good time, rather than this acquisitive administrative slog.
I did not work properly before. It rejected bids that were made before the end of the auction.
I purchased a limo off the AH for 20 million a few months back but can’t claim it as it freezes the game.
So I got an occasional freeze when entering some auctions too. When you have the auction highlighted can you press Y for options and then select claim?
along with the others, yes
And now its time to do away with the AH fee
I’ve never understood that. Taxes, in a video game? For god’s sake we have to do enough of it in real life!
It’s for the realism ! Like in the rest… of the… game. Yeah, ok, ummm… LOOK ! A MUSTANG !
A Cobrang? Or a Mustbra? Or is it a Snorse? Snang? I can’t even keep up anymore…
Actually its quite the contrary.
It PREVENTS scummy behavior.
Especially when you are not able to bid a max amount and have the system bid on your behalf.
Timing an online auction to bid at the last second in order not to give the other bidder a chance to match is a scummy tactic.
And when you use a system like FH5 uses it prevents those cheap and underhanded tactics
Its very reasonable, watch any auction, for other that have bid on an auction to have a chance to match subsequent bids.
Its fair to the previous bidder, and its even more fair for the seller.
Yea still happens to this day… it gives the 1000’s of auction bots ample time to rebuttal a bid in the 28 hour ending soon 1min left auctions makes it hard for us non cheaters that’s for sure.
