Expansion packs have never been part of a dlc package.
Look at Horizon 2, they released Storm Island later on and it wasn’t in the special editions of the game, it was sold on its own for a very very good price imo.
That’s not entirely true, the Horizon Season Pass included the Rally Package. The big difference here is wording. Season Pass vs. Car Pass, Car Pass indicates only car dlc, while season pass can represent much more.
Actually, they have. The rally expansion was included in the Season Pass for Horizon 1. That same season pass includes all the DLC car packs too. Wonder why T10/PG haven’t done that since…
Ultimate Edition is one of those snaky marketing terms. It’s essentially meaningless when used to describe a product. Ultimate what? Ultimate in stupidity? Ultimate in marketing nonsense? You get my drift. There’s a reason it isn’t called the Complete Edition.
This is the only legitimate complaint in this thread. By name alone it’s misleading, but nobody has been ‘ripped off’. Just play the game and you’ll easily get your money’s worth.
Reading that blog post I just feel sick. I spent 140+ (Yes my dollar sucks.) Only to get charged extra for an expansion. This isn’t like it is releasing a year from now. I would understand that. But it is releasing in a couple of months. That almost feels like a DLC on the disc type situation. I am sure it will be top notch quality and worth every penny but I still feel a little let down.
Did they release any early info on the car pack? Most likely did but I went dark on the game after I pre-ordered day one. Honestly I am disappointed by the car pack just a bunch of hyper cars and exotics. Nothing really cool or interesting. I know that is totally subjective though and my personal preference though.
It’s cool though Playground get your money while you can with gamers short attention spans these days.
Doesn’t anybody read actual product descriptions anymore?
When the Ultimate Edition was announced, I read the product description which told me exactly what was included - even the details about the Car Pass (6 monthly DLC packs and not an unlimited amount of DLC, which will cause people who didn’t read the description to also comment about being ripped off 7 months from now). Nowhere did I see anything about Expansions. I was promised A, B, and C. I received A, B, and C. They’ve now announced D.
Do I now feel ripped off? Oh, heck no. I read the details.
From a logical standpoint I have to say that we haven’t been ripped off, like others mentioned, the Ultimate Edition makes it clear what offers, and you know it very well before you buy it.
However my personal take on this is that is a bit scummy from their part to make this. I didn’t really mind the expansions not being part of the UE on past games since they were all a “surprise”, as in, there was nothing officially announced before launch about said expansions, so buying the UE was pretty much buying everything the game had to offer in the launch. Now in this case I just feel a little bit cheated on, since this Expansion Pass idea probably didn’t happen from night to day, they clearly hide it under the carpet to make us feel like buying the UE was the most complete version of the game there is, and turns out, it isn’t, we still have to put another $25 on top of the $100 edition, that was supposed to be the edition where you get everything you can from the get go. I wouldn’t even mind if they made the UE $125 or made an additional edition, the complete edition where you get the Expansion Pass and a Lifetime Car Pass for $125-140.
If you don’t want to read the whole paragraph above, in short, I just find annoying how they hide this under the carpet instead of offering an actual fair Ultimate Edition, even for additional money. But whatever, I won’t stop enjoying the game any less, ask for a refund, throw a fit or anything, might buy this eventually, or never, who knows…
Companies don’t deal in morals they deal in logistics when it comes to financials.
I want to point out too I don’t put the blame on the devs here. They just make the game. It is PR, accounting, and board that make those decisions.
Waiting til the Ultimate release day to announce an expansion is just dirty pool plain and simple. It’s not illegal just dirty smart Activison/Bungie business style practices. Had they announced before the pre-order date that ultimate was not going to get access to the expansions I wonder how many people would have ordered that edition. I know I wouldn’t have. Just my opinion. Lesson well learned here.
Maybe I’m reading this wrong but it makes no sense to me. You were fine with past games not including everything because the expansions were a surprise, but now that they’ve already announced there is an expansion pass before launch they hiding something? Just doesn’t add up.
They hide nothing the UE was/is the most complete version of the game you can buy there’s not an edition that offers everything.
I also feel a little cheated. When I saw the expansion pass thing flash across my screen, i’m thinking WHAT THE HELL IS THIS? They already have a DLC thought out and didnt offer to add in the ultimate. I would have just paid 145 for a ULTIMATE/SUPER ULTIMATE edition lol. I dont wanna think I purchased everything and then they throw this in my face
Again, it was not supposed to be the edition where you get everything from the get go. It didn’t promise that. And if you’re willing to pay the $100 for what the Edition did list in its inclusions, then obviously you feel it’s a reasonable deal. Now expecting them to add in more content without you having to pay any extra is you trying to change the deal after the fact. Cheated would be if you were given less than the advertised content for the same price. So you’re trying to change the deal, and accusing them of cheating you when they have not. Who’s being scummy here, the seller or the customer?
If you have a target price that doesn’t match what is offered, so be it, but that just means you pass on the deal. It doesn’t mean the publisher is scummy for pricing things the way they do. Try walking into a Ferrari dealer and telling them that they’re scummy for not selling their cars at 80% of what they do, not including the options that cost extra over the base trim, see how far that gets you.
Technically, it doesn’t include everything it promises. To people who don’t know what this company likes to do with their “Half the Car Pass”, they’d look at the back of the box of the ultimate edition, and see the Car Pass, and think that that’ll include all the car passes. When in reality, it doesn’t.
No, “technically” it does include everything it promises. “Technically” the words Car Pass and Expansion Pass are not synonymous, because one covers cars and the other covers features. “Technically” the Car Pass has a defined period and number of cars included, and not some imagined bottomless source of content, which the consumer would know if they asked “hey, what’s in the Car Pass I’m getting with this Ultimate Edition?” Just like, say, “technically” the VIP Membership doesn’t include unlimited backstage tours of the developer studio even if concert goers are used to that sort of thing.
Buyers who want something more for free just because it’s recently announced are trying to change the deal. You know who changed deals? Lord Vader. Lord Vader was evil. Don’t be like Lord Vader.
If I ever buy a version of a game other than the standard I always look at what is included, always.
The Ultimate Edition is stated to include the base game + VIP + Car Pass. The individual cost of all of those is somewhere around $150AUD (I can not see the price of the passes any more as I own them).
I got the package for $139 so I got a discount. So the package does hold up in that regard.
Is it over priced?
I would argue if you break it up into components some components seem overpriced. DLC cars are a few dollars each whereas on disc cars are measured in cents. However the reality is that is just how they have separated out their revenue. Is the full package worth $139?
That is an individual call but any game that will have me playing for months is worth that amount to me.
Pay extra for expansion passes? Fine by me as I know the deal. I know they are not included in Ultimate Edition because at no stage did anyone tell me they are.
Once again will the expansions be worth it? For me yes as I will get many hours out of them.
The fact I get a discount on the expansion pass is a bonus because at no stage was I told I would when I bought it.
So in summary I got what it said on the tin and my view is it is all worth it given how many hours I will play it for.
