Are we going to ignore the lack of any ranked play in FH5?

I get it. The ranked system was broken in FH4. I also had issues joining ranked team adventure with my friend. Many players avoided it because of some toxicity. But why we couldn’t have some open discussion how we can make it right or just any discussion in general? In my opinion it wasn’t that hard to make the ranked play more fair and rewarding. If people were so upset with their skill being rated why didn’t the developers just make the ranked mode COMPLETELY optional so nobody would be forced to do it. It just blows my mind that we will have a game with that many cars, setups, “tracks” and the only races with other players will be in Horizon Open where winning means fk all.

  1. There are literally dozens and dozens and dozens of threads discussing the problems with ranked and a myriad of potential solutions, ad nauseam, in the Horizon 4 forum. I suspect it hasn’t carried over here yet because the topic has simply been exhausted and it’s fruitless to hem and haw on it further until new details, if any, are disclosed.

  2. Ranked modes have always been completely optional; we are already not forced to do it.

  3. Despite having lots of cars, tracks, and setups, neither Horizon 1, Horizon 2, nor Horizon 3 had ranked racing; is your mind equally as blown by their lack of ranked racing? I am curious, though, as to what it is about ranked in H4 that makes you think “winning [doesn’t] mean ** all” there, too? Unless there’s been a chivalrous epidemic of squeaky-clean racing and polite manners going around that I’m unaware of, the very nature of rankings…competing for higher stakes and/or at the very least protecting an existing rank is more than enough of a catalyst for a reliably greater “winning means ** all” atmosphere than one should expect to find in a standard lobby of casual, no-stakes racing.

Well actually I did find the online racing in the other Horizons to be pointless and underwhelming. There was nothing to progress and work towards.

It doesn’t surprise me that they’ve taken the lazy option of just ditching ranked rather than fixing its problems, which were all fixable. But they just don’t seem to listen or care. Very frustrating.

ranked racing sucks tbh, it’s a net good that it is gone and i hope it never returns

It provided me with some of the best and most intense online racing in any game I’ve played.

For those players who found it too hard, you could still play the unranked modes.

Yeah, ranked racing being gone is a major issue for me. It feels they’ve got rid of it because it was considered too hard to make it work, rather than spend the time making it an improved product. Having watched yesterday’s stream, I can’t see myself playing FH5 much. It doesn’t even look like there are custom adventures, unless there is another menu behind that racing screen.

Seen nothing about clubs, nothing about promoting clean racing, seen nothing of “at last, they fixed it” … clearly seen absolutely nothing yet that would switch me to buy mode.

The menu yesterday had a big “Clubs” logo, so it’s clearly going to be a prominent feature. Racing is a low priority in this game and the “kudos” system is probably how they intend to promote clean racing.

Not surprised, I saw it coming. They kept avoiding discussing multiplayer altogether, they never fixed the team points problem and then people started taking advantage of the system in FFA.

I’m honestly not surprised. Since FH5 certainly looks like an update for FH4 rather than a whole new game, they would have to spend a considerable amount of time to actually fix FH4’s ranked system in the first place so it’s a whole lot easier to just outright remove it. Very happy I haven’t pre-ordered yet and will need to see a lot more from this game before I put it back in my cart.

I don’t quite understand the logic of people who didn’t like ranked mode and are happy to see it removed. Not sure if they realize, but they don’t have to play what they don’t like and let others enjoy whatever they want… Maybe next time a feature or game mode they like will be removed just because others didn’t enjoy it so they’ll realize how wrong that thought process is.

Flawed though it is, FH4’s FFA ranked system is adequate. Even if they left that as it was, that would be workable. Some minor tweaks to the scoring system, and I’d be fairly happy with it.

Yep and these are the instances where they DONT listen to the players who have lived in these modes. Hundreds upon hundreds of hours and in my case thousands of hours but our feedback is shoved aside or outright ignored.

But you get bowling pins and piñatas, what more could you possibly ask for? I liked online racing, just avoided ranked except for the easy percentage points because of the broken scoring system. I made prestige 10 primarily from FFA racing, and then they broke that by bringing Steam into the mix.

Matchmaking becomes more fluid with less modes and filters. If on top of that there is still some silent skill matching and perhaps even sorting out the low IQ rammers from normal people this could turn out just fine

I’d happy if they just returned online multiplayer back to the way it was in FH3 just with less emphasis put on skill chain points!

I only regretted FH4 ranked system because it brought out the “win at all cost” bad behavior. And the points system was flawed with winning the adventure for “2 points” and come in 2nd place to loose “110 points”. You eventually reach a point in the ranked system which you can only advance your rank by turning into the dirty player everyone complains about.

I am definitely in favor of this, FH3 system wasnt bad but it could be exploited and you could still win while never finishing a race. DNF everytime and still win the lobby. Personally, they could easily tweak that system and give us an outstanding upgrade to it, just don’t allow the point farmers in last place to receive all the points banked if they DNF in that race because as you say FH4 was extremely cutthroat and nowhere near as enjoyable.

I’m a GM at FFA in FH4, as I think is Clam. It was possible to get there without dirty driving. It was just painful to do so with disconnections costing you huge points and wins giving you -1/-2. A small tweak in the points system would have fixed the issues.

GM is an accomplishment, congrats!

I did the 10 race qualifying and that placed me at rank or level 7 and never touched it again. Each time we had to requalify I would cross the starting line and then quit because 20 minutes later it would say I requalified. I also reach the same rank or level in drifting and FFA but never touched them again also.

I may have a hand full of multiplayer days played on FH4 however if you looked at FH2 and FH3 there would be hundreds of days played and I still race weekly on FH2/FH3!!

Yes, FH3 had people hanging back skill chaining their butt’s off but at least they wasn’t up front wrecking everyone to win!!!

Because winning was pointless. It’s throwing the baby out with the bathwater to ‘solve’ the problem of rammers by making races not worth winning. Imagine if Formula One or football didn’t bother to keep track of your wins and losses, and whether you won or not didn’t matter. Who would play that, or watch it?

There’s a balance to be had somewhere. You mention Formula 1 — they have penalties for drivers breaking the rules, which is like awarding the other drivers with “clean driving points”, except they are using a penalty points system rather than an award points system.

I feel like somewhere between FH3 and FH4 there is a balance. Reward people for clean driving enough that it might make the difference between 1st and 3rd in a close championship points battle, but don’t count skill chains for stuff like wreckage and drifting.
