Apply penalties during the race

I think it is more convenient that penalties (at least by collision) are applied during the race (on the track or in the pits)

I agree!!! :slightly_smiling_face:
I think this is necessary

I just want them to fix the broken track limits penalties. If I go 10 laps in an 11 lap race without an incident I should not get a 1.1 second penalty for drifting wide and not gaining an advantage. Balance it out if I have to be penalized then make it like .5 or .7 but a full second is ridiculous. Ruins the battles at the end.

I am on the opposite side. I manage to shave 5 seconds of a lap for cutting throught… and only got .5 seconds penaltys. Makes no sens.

Collision penalty arent bad enought also. Got spun out of track and the guy got less then a second penalty for ruining the race.

Collision penalties are inadequate. You get thrown out and maybe the other user gets a second penalty.

A suggestion I would like to make would be:
Any time penalties accrued during a race are applied during a pit stop.
This setting would most likely default to “On” for Medium or Longer races, where a pit stop may be required. This would also work the same in online lobbies.
The Disqualification of a racer would still apply for the total of the penalties, regardless if they have been served or not.
This setting can be toggled to “Off” in Private online lobbies.

(edit, missed a word)

I suggest a very new penalty system for multiplayer and single player too. Instead of getting XY seconds on the racing time, after the penalty given to player, their car stops after the penalty happens, for the given time. For example, player get 3,3 seconds penalty for crashing. After 10 seconds that happens, his car becomes ghost, and stop on the track, they can’t start the car until 3,3 seconds spent freezed. After that, the car can go forward, and stays ghost mode for 10 seconds, so no accidental collisions. This hard system will inspire everyone to not doing illegal actions on races. Because the punishment is huge, and much better thing than just put 3,3 seconds on the lap times.

Not a fan, this just leads to ppl either not pitting to avoid it. Or this also could remove them from the race since they fall too far behind and DNF. This then results in less racing when ppl are drawn out and basically hotlapping in the end.

This is a horrible idea.
Instead of trying to max out the limits of a track and the limits of the car and tuning you worked on for hours, like in real life races, the players would be super scared of making mistakes and therefore drive so ridiculously safe, the penalty would destroy their race and make the whole multiplayer experience a depressing experience. In FH5 a similar concept is already being used for “Horizon Open”, where when you make a mistake and you loose time the game sometimes slows you down because it thinks you tried to cheat, which therefore is a double L.
In FM the penalty system also makes mistakes every once in a while, which is quite frustrating when you finish a close race and then get ranked down 2 places because of a 2,5 sec penalty you don’t think you deserved. And even if you deserve the penalty it would still destroy the race if there are constantly ghost cars on the track
And from a physics perspective, it would destroy the drivers flow completely if they where to be slowed down to a halt in the middle of the race, because of the tires overheating and increasing the pressure and therefore you need a whole nother lap to recover from that penalty. Tires need a constant airflow to stay cool and keep the right pressure and simultaneously the traction to stay warm enough.
Also, it would be insanely unrealistic and a huge set back for this game to artificially slow or stop the car.

This is the only way that can remove the nightmare if they implement a real racing championship with prizes. The penalty system also freeze the player, not stopping his car to full stop, instead make their game into “pause” state. That way nothing changes on car, and player just gets the deserved punishment for the fault. The system also can revamp, to check if penalty is real or not, but that’s already implemented, more or less. Also. I love how much players from time to time changes their stance with Forza. Once everyone says is too arcade, other time says it’s too realistic, and now is unrealistic. Not surprised even Turn10 can’t make a working game after these. Also just a last thing: in real life too, regardless if you did unintentionally the damage, you make hard minutes to other racer, he/she lose control on car, or worse, and that don’t change your penalty, and punishment. Stay safe on races, or don’t go to the professional league. So it’s easy, the game makes a professional league that implement the system, that all the player wants who want to get REAL life experience in the races. The server can give forgiving system to other places then, also on custom made lobby for example. But for now, lot of professional players leave this game, going back to ACC or GT. Because this game as gets more players, will get more players who plays unfair. Today for example I found an unlimited fuel player too. Not the first game would be ruined by crazy players and cheaters. Even if not my idea, but something must be done, or the game will sink slow but steady under the deep sea of failure.

I have no Idea how you drive, but with my A class safety rating and skill level of 4300 I have sero struggle to competitively race against people without getting rammed unfairly or seeing other players exploit short cuts. The current penalty system works fine and they gonna be refining it in future…

This would be great, if ya play a mode that making pit stops is part of the game  I know, i know, i keep going on about race length in career, but, being locked in to short races is very lame

no it doesn’t. had 3 occasions just today were people were waiting for me to be alongside them on a straight, and then push me into the dirt, and no penalties awarded to them. this was while i had an S rating (3800 skill rating), so how did i end up in a lobby with such idiots? the last straw was overtaking on the main straight at Grand Oaks and Dat Boi Patino slams his side against me, goes out, and slams me again (i’m travelling in a straight line the whole way) then spins themself out, and i get a 4.1 sec penalty, and dropped to an A safety rating.
the game literally lets players tank others safety ratings.
that’s before even mentioning the carnage i see happening in front on track, and no penalties are coming up on screen next to drivers names.
the system is very broken

I have to agree now. I’ve been playing a bit more over the past 2 weeks and definitely had some insanely unfair things happen to me. My safety rating is S now and unfair drivers have become my everyday nemesis :frowning:
They definitely have to do something about this!

YEEEESSS!!! We need a better ranking system for multiplayer

Here in Australia in the V8 supercar championship.

  1. if a driver in race rams/nudges that causes loss of track position to another driver. The officials give a black flag pit lane drive through penalty.
  2. do it 3x in a race you get a drive to pits DNF.
    For the game
When a driver gets one of these penalties instantly ghost them, as not to effect other drivers, unghost once penalty is served.
I think most players would consider something like this implemented into the game a great option.

After two full months of play, it is clear that the penalty system is not working.
It doesn’t work because many users even if they take the penalty eventually get ahead of you because they ruined your race and they manage to gain time over you chasing them.

I propose to change the penalty system during races from ‘adding time’ to ‘immediately slowing down’ (by ghosting the driver at that stage) so as not to give them any advantage.

Today, I was racing at Spa-Francorchamps and an unfair driver, who had earlier taken the opponent in front of him by storm, was calmly cutting across the track without any problems.

At Eau Rouge-Raidillon he went straight, got less than a second penalty (he didn’t care) and was clearly faster than me and overtook me.

This is the video:

The game should IMMEDIATELY penalise those who commit impropriety. It is the only way to prevent incorrect players from taking advantage and continuing to ruin the races of those who want to have fun without seeing their race ruined.

Thank you.

PS: leave out the fact that I got the wrong tyres and forgot to pit on lap 2 :joy:

I agree that instant slow down penalty would be much more effective than added time. Those who want to drive dirty doesn’t seem care about the possible penalty time they might get and many times they don’t get even that. By removing accelerator input after collision dirty driving techniques wouldn’t work anymore. Gran Turismo series had this type penalty system and it works really well.

I don’t really like the idea of immediate slow down, but I like the idea of slow down in generell. I think dedicated “slow-down-zones” would work better.

My reason for this is following:
If you rammed someone and the game immediately slows you down for it, then there might be drivers behind you that crash into you, because in some blind corners or for drivers with longer reaction time this could be a big problem.
Of course the game could just ghost you, but even then there is the possibility that if you get slowed down in a braking zone, then the penalty is served, but it didn’t really cause you any punishment.

I think there should be dedicated slow-down-zones on straight parts of the circuit. This zone should also be at the beginning of a straight, imo the beginning of the finish straight would be a great place.

The mechanic of the slow down also is super important! Imagine you drive behind someone and didn’t realize they have a penalty, that could cause you some trouble.
There are two things this mechanic needs:

  • The car that is being slowed down becomes a ghost.
  • The car that gets slowed down has a big obvious warning sign above it a few seconds before it goes into the slow-down-zone.

That’s my take on it.

During penalty cars can be ghosted. That’s how it worked on GT.
