no you can get the the Xbox OS update with a completely new style. After plugging in for the first time it asks “your controller has an update, do you want to update or cancel” so it’s optional. My friend had the same thing. I was just wondering if anyone has seen a difference or has seen where microsoft said this changes the thumbsticks draw / sensitivity or is just functionality issues.
My controller updated after installing NXOE yesterday, but based on the racing and hotlapping I did last night there was no difference to me in how the cars handled.
After Xbox Update i could also update my controller. I have the feeling, the rumble in the triggers is much better since. Blocking wheels braking or spinning wheels accelerating give more response to the trigger.
No it isn’t. You need to adjust your driving style. Drive your car as if you were driving it IRL, rather than driving a car in a game, if that makes sense.
SIM steering is what gives each car a distinct feel. On normal, all of them feel the same and just too easy to drive. Almost not nuanced at all.
Agreed. I actually tried “normal” last week just to try it (it’s been a while), and while the car is bit more mellow (i.e., less likely to bite back in the corners), it also cuts down on precision and steering speed. I can get way more “perfect turns” with Sim Steering on as opposed to using “Normal” - clip that apex!
I didn’t see anything regarding an update for the controller when I turned on the Xbox yesterday, although I do have the new dashboard update. Going to have to check for that.
Sim steering was for the wheel that goes way back. You can if you want the challenge use sim steering on the Xbox one controller but normally most people use normal.
sim steering has some advantages once you adapt to all the differences.
for example, daytona tri-oval with normal steering you are constantly tapping that thumb stick left through the hole turn.
with sim steering you just need to hold the thumb stick slightly to the left like you would a steering wheel to make that big turn.
thats interesting, mine will continue to turn right off the road as if you took it straight to turn lock.
and no its not my deadzones they are set for 3 and 99. i use 3 because i have bur on the left side of the stick that stops it from centering sometimes.
Is there a downgrade to the previous firmware possible. I think braking now is harder, cant descripe it in english and I fell less effects when the car starts to slide or hit the walls. I drove bevore 30 min hot laps with the bmw m1 procar and the car feels after the update definitely not better.
Thanks for the responses guys. I’m going to try to find a way to play back to with a controller without the update and with just for the hell of it. I’m not really questioning if the change was for the best more interested in if it will change my driving a bit. Obviously I really like how things are now!!!
I’ll let everyone know if I do this or just give in and update.
PS: to each his own for sim steering. For me it keeps things much more thrilling especially in a league race (1hr+). You have to focus 100%. HOWEVER sim steering is not made just for a wheel as per Forza in game description;
“Simulation - Simulation steering eliminates any damping and steering speed assistance for a more realistic one to one effect, making counter-steering much quicker. Please note this mode is difficult with a controller, and is recommend for ADVANCED PLAYERS ONLY.”
I may be way off base…but in fm4 if I downloaded a tune and it felt like it was loose I would use normal steering. Too tight, sim steering. I have been using normal on fm6 since the stock cars feel like they have more oversteer.
To answer the original question. .no I haven’t noticed any difference in the function of my controller.
