I’m having this issue on my GTX 970M laptop where the anti-aliasing doesn’t seem to be working during a race. In the menu’s the anti-aliasing is clearly activated because the vehicle models in ForzaVista are mostly smooth and generally everything looks nice. Also on the pre-race screen where the chosen car is sitting on the track, the anti-aliasing seems to be functioning because the edges are smooth. However when the race is started the car model instantly shows severe jaggies along the edges and it looks horrible. I’m not sure what the reason for this could be. I have my settings on the ‘High’ preset and anti-aliasing is set to a fixed 8x MSAA. Is this another issue only affecting laptops with Nvidia Optimus, such as the screen tearing problem which has already been added to the known issues discussion? Any ideas and assistance would be most appreciated. Thanks!
Okay… Well i went back into the game and took some screenshots to illustrate the issue i’m having with the anti-aliasing. The first screenshot was taken on the Top Gear circuit in the rain and it looks absolutely gorgeous, notice how the roof of the Koenigsegg is very smooth! However, when i change the weather to sunny as shown in the second screenshot, the anti-aliasing is nowhere near as effective and the entire car looks like a complete mess with jaggies covering all the edges. The clearest places to see this dramatic difference are on the roof-line and windscreen. I’m not sure whether the difference is only visible due to much brighter lighting in the sunny scene, or whether there’s an actual problem with anti-aliasing being applied under these circumstances. However, it is very distracting and makes the game look incredibly unsightly, which is a real shame because it looks absolutely fantastic in the wet weather! Anyone having the same issue?
Make sure you don’t have dynamic settings on. The game will automatically turn options on/off to improve performance for a constant 60FPS. So it may be turning off AA to keep the game running smoothly.
Go into your Video options and see what they are all set to.
Ah yeah, i forgot to mention about this, i knew there was something i’d missed in the original post. Thanks for reminding me! I double-checked a few minutes ago and at the moment i have MSAA set to a fixed 8x MSAA, it’s not on the Dynamic option but for some reason the issue still persists. I’m not sure what else could be causing the problem, it’s surprising how no-one else has reported the issue before me.
Thanks for the response, it is most appreciated. I have tried forcing anti-aliasing in Nvidia Control Panel by choosing ‘Override Any Application Setting’ and selecting the 8x MSAA option, but this doesn’t seem to have any impact because the chosen MSAA value in game still controls how much anti-aliasing is applied. The laptop i’m using is a Clevo P650SE with the GTX 970M 3GB. I’m also experiencing the issue which others have reported, with occasional screen-tearing due to the integrated Intel HD 4600. On another note, have you any idea when we can expect the first update? I was wondering whether it would be within a few weeks or more like a month. Cheers!
No luck i’m afraid, still getting the same results by using 4x MSAA rather than 8x MSAA. What makes this so strange is that the game looks fantastic in wet conditions, it’s just in the sunny weather where the anti-aliasing doesn’t seem to be working. I’m baffled as to what could be causing the problem!
It is strange because you would think that if the game is automatically reducing settings, it would do it in the rainy scenes and not the other way around. Mine looks good everywhere but if I’m going to get any momentary hitches or stutters it will be on the rainy tracks. It happens very rarely even then and is probably caused by dynamic changes being made to the settings. I have dynamics turned on with only AF and AA managed manually. It’s at 2X AF and 4X AA. I still have not tried to see what my framerates are. I don’t want to be disappointed when the game runs so well.
I’ve been thinking about this. Maybe there’s an issue with the AA edge detection. If you think about it, in a rainy scene there is much less contrast, but in a bright sunlit scene, the contrast between the bright orange car, and the grey and green of the background could be too much. So it’s an issue of contrast with the edge detection not working well in the brighter more contrasty scenes. But why it’s only on your system is weird?
Do you have any AA settings forced in your GFX card control page? Things like performance vs fidelity, or Force FXAA on all games, that kind of thing?
Bumping an old topic of mine here in the hope that someone can shed some light on what might be causing this problem. I returned to playing Forza 6: Apex this week after a few months absence, following the news that the new v2.5 update had been released. In an effort to unlock some more cars i decided to start progressing through the career mode; but was instantly greeted with this annoying anti-aliasing issue, identical to how it was the last time despite there being numerous updates since.
As you can see in the screenshots underneath, the anti-aliasing appears to be working fine in the rainy weather conditions, with the edges of the cars being smooth and very pleasing in appearance. However, in the dry/sunny conditions it is an entirely different situation, with jaggies clearly all over the edges. I have tried to endure the problem as long as possible but it is impossible; my eyes feel like they’re gradually disintegrating from the immense torture of having to look at these utterly horrendous jaggies! Please… Someone help me, it’s too much!
I’m not sure how to solve this problem. As others have said, it seems weird how the anti-aliasing would be fine in the rainy conditions when this would be putting a significant amount more load on the GPU. All the screenshots underneath were took with a manual setting of 8x MSAA. The machine i’m playing on is a Clevo P650SE notebook with an i7-4720HQ, GTX 970M 3GB, 12GB RAM and 250GB 840 EVO SSD. This laptop does have NVIDIA Optimus between the GTX 970M and HD4600 which has caused problems for other people with screen-tearing before the recent updates. Any assistance or suggestions towards solving this problem would be most appreciated, of course. Thanks!
