[ANSWERED] What is the issue with Xbox play anywhere and playing on PC?

My son bought the ultimate edition on Xbox One which enabled me to download from the Windows store and play on my PC on Friday 29th September and I was playing right up until Friday 6th October, when I tried to play it said that it needed to update so I left it at that, when I went back the installation had disappeared so I went to Windows store which now only offers me the option to buy yet the 3 bonus car packs VIP, Hoonigon and Fate of the Furious it says they can be installed, which obviously doesn’t work because I no longer have access to Forza 7, contacted Microsoft/xbox via online chat and after a rather protracted and confusing chat they said apparently it is an issue that many are having and they are supposedly working on it but no timeframe for likely fix, so has anyone actually experienced this or not?

pretty sure you need to logged in as his account /gamertag ( since his account bought it) to download it again

Already tried that it didn’t make the slightest bit of difference.

Also should add that I was able to download and install on the 29 September from my profile originally without my son being logged in on his.

On Wndows 10 you need to logon as the same account as the buyer to install it. On the Windows 10 Xbox App you can then logon as yourself to get all achievements etc. on your own profile.

I have 2 profiles myself as one is from my old 360 days and I have another in Windows 10.

On Xbox One you should be able to logon to the console with both your profiles and get access to the games bought on each.

But as I have already pointed out I was able to download and play from the 29th September on my own pc/xbox profile with out my son being logged in.

So no one else actually got the same issue?

Would be nice to know what has actually changed that prevents me from downloading and playing something I was able to download and play originally.

Does anyone know where the files for Forza 7 are actually installed so I can check to see if they are actually still there?

Accounts can have “device limits” , i would check the account first to see how many devices it has registered.

In other cases there could be something corrupt in your Windows10 regarding your account.
First thing you can try is simply logging out and logging back into the store and the xbox app, see if that changes anything.

Method : The Troubleshooter for Windows Apps
Fix problems with apps from Microsoft Store - Microsoft Support

Method : Resetting the Apps through Windows Settings
Start - Settings (Cogwheel Icon) - Apps & Features - Store - Advanced options - Reset
Start - Settings (Cogwheel Icon) - Apps & Features - Xbox - Advanced options - Reset
Start - Settings (Cogwheel Icon) - Apps & Features - Forza Motorsport 7 - Advanced options - Reset

Additional Notes : there is also WSRESET.EXE that you can run in Command Prompt as (Admin)

Method : Turning Firewall on for all Profiles through Command Prompt (Admin)
Right click Start - Command Prompt (Admin)
and type “netsh advfirewall set allprofiles state on”

Method : Check your Xbox-Services
Check if your Xbox-Services are enabled.
Right click Start - Run - Type “services.msc” … scroll down the list and all the Xbox-Services should be either on “manual” or “automatic” , it should not be on “disabled”.

Method : Create a new Windows Account
Start button, Settings - Accounts - Family & other people - Add someone else to this PC.
Enter a user name, password, password hint, and then select Next.

This document has a few more options to try if all above does not work, however they are more risky.

i suggest to also take a look at these methods if all above fails.

-Method : Windows 10 Corruption Scanning
-Method : Windows 10 Clean Boot
-Method : Teredo Fixes
-Method : Take ownership of your Harddisk and grant “ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES” access to important folders
-Method : Delete Windows-Update SoftwareDistribution Folder in Windows Safe-Mode
-Method : Remove and Reinstall Xbox-Apps through Powershell
-Method : Install latest Windows-Insider Preview-Build or a clean Windows10 reinstall

Thanks for the info, but as other Xbox play anywhere titles I have work ok I am of the opinion that the problem lies with Forza 7 itself and that it is something that needs to be sorted out by Microsoft and the forza devs themselves.

I have just finished a chat with Xbox support about this issue and their advice was to post on here to get the game tech support to look at the issue, which I explained I had already done with no success, they assured me that by posting on here it would get sorted, I wont be holding my breath on that and haven’t seen any flying pigs yet either.

I have a similar issue … Since I had an issue with downloading forza 7 ultimate from the store …I contacted support through the chat programme ( waisted many hours doing this) … My initial issue was the store showed an install button but when I clicked on it nothing happened …just showed the serial number… After talking many many times to support they said to give them 24 hours to sort out the issue … Now when I check the store all of the games I purchased digitally are showing as redeemed with no option to install … I have spent days trying to sort this out with with people on support saying they will get back to me and of course they never do… so now I cannot download any of my games :frowning: … I have become quite disgusted with the chat support system .

So I contacted the forza support by email as I was advised to by Xbox/Microsoft support who assured me that was the thing to do and the issue would be resolved, and after explaining what the issue was 3 times to the forza support the last reply from them was to contact Xbox/Microsoft support and they would resolve the issue, so it appears I have been given the run-around as I still cannot access Forza 7 from the windows store to re-download it, so I owe them a big thank you for wasting my time.

Notice how this thread has been totally ignored by the forza support team.

I would say if you previously had access on your own account, and don’t now, it was possibly a glitch which has now been fixed. If you buy a play anywhere title, only the person who bought the game can play it online, so it’s their account that needs to be logged into Windows/Windows Store/Xbox Live on the pc to play it. Also of note, is that the same account cannot be logged in on two devices simultaneously even if playing different games, as MS won’t allow it.

Basically, if your son bought the game, only he should have access to the play anywhere facility, as you can only have one cloud save per account. Anyone can play the game on the console, but again only the account that purchased the game will be able to play online and use the cloud saves, everyone else would need to play offline, or purchase the game themselves.

Hello,

Just so I am understanding this correctly. You didnt purchase the game? But you still want to be able to play the game on PC while NOT logged into the persons account who purchased it?

It doesnt work that way. You need to make sure you are signed into the xbox app and the windows store with the login of the person who purchased the game. You also cannot be logged into two places at once.

I just said that lol

lol! I usually quote somthing before I scroll to the bottom :stuck_out_tongue:

I think you both need to reread my posts, as I already explained I have access to other Xbox play anywhere titles that my son bought on Xbox one and I was able to download and play Forza 7 on my PC account for a week before I was suddenly denied from doing so and Xbox support confirmed that I should be able to do so after I had fully explained so it looks like there seems to be some conflicting info being given out and no one seems that sure about which info is correct, kind of makes you wonder does anyone actually know what they are talking about. :yum:

You need to sign into your sons account on the store to download. Once that is done you can sign into your account and play it. If you are signed into your account on the store, it WILL ask you to purchase the game since you have not.

Thanks,

But as I have already explained that was not the case originally with Forza 7 and not the case with the other Xbox play any where titles I have access to and play, also you said originally that I wouldn’t be able to play it but now you are saying I can, so now you seem to be giving out conflicting info.

I’ve already confirmed with the store this is how its supposed to work.

You need to sign into your sons account on the store to download. Once that is done you can sign into your account and play it. If you are signed into your account on the store, it WILL ask you to purchase the game since you have not.
