Another frame rate problem report

Sorry about that, but it’s definitely a thing at the moment for me at least. I’ve just tried to put in a few laps on the VIP event at Silverstone in the Lambo, and the FPS is killing me,

I’ve tried to capture this through a camera recording at 60fps, uploaded to YouTube at 60fps, it’s open to being shot down due to the TV refresh rate not being captured true on camera, but what you’re seeing in this video isn’t too far off what it actually looks like. That is not 60fps or anywhere close to it, I’m estimating less than 30fps at speed. And when you’re hurtling through a bend with that frame rate, it’s a deal breaker.

This is the first time I’ve had to stop and down tools due to game performance or even had to question the frame rate. I’ll not ask if anyone else is experiencing this, it’s happening, and it’s a console so it’s not like I can go and troubleshoot this and tweak my drivers and game settings. Does anyone from Turn 10 Support read these pages? If not I guess this will be somewhat of a pointless post.

I wouldn’t mind so much if it could be explained by a recent graphical fidelity improvement, I don’t know if I’m just now looking for it but the anti-aliasing in the game seems to be non-existent? The lines on the cars are visibly stepped, I loaded in the new Ford GT on the test track, put it in chase view and it looked like the car was in front of a green screen it was so jagged and poorly drawn.

Just for clarity, I’m not some random hater beating on the game because it isn’t “next gen” or up to my unrealistic expectations or whatever. I bought FM6 on day 1 and have put in hundreds of hours, loved every minute of it. This is purely a genuine concern being shot towards Turn 10 to see if there’s anything they know of which is currently causing a performance loss.

This is certainly a very unusual problem you’re facing. The game may on rare occasions exhibit a micro-screen freeze or two, particularly if you’re connected, but that’s something a hard reset can fix.

However, that is not the problem you are facing. From what you’ve described, it appears you’re using enhancements on your TV. Make sure all of them are OFF and turn on Game Mode if your TV has it. As for jaggies, perhaps you are sitting too close. How big is your TV and how far away do you sit from it? The game on my near-decade old 40" LCD TV looks fantastic. Yes, I do spot the jaggies now and then but they are easy to ignore and overall, the game looks sharper and cleaner than F5. Remember, console games will never look as good as PC games, particularly those that are locked at 60 fps. You may need to move further back from the screen. For the most part, Forza looks fantastic.

Back to your problem - the game and console are working as they should. I believe the issue is with your TV. Is “allow 50 Hz” and “24 Hz” unchecked in the display options? What about “allow 3D”? It’s probably not relevant at all, but tinkering with those settings as well may produce different results. However, I’m still convinced its the enhancements on your TV.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, however it isn’t an issue with my TV, the TV or settings haven’t changed since I’ve sunk hundreds of hours into the game. However I think that this may not be a game issue, I’ve just been testing it today and it’s now perfectly fine, buttery smooth. The only difference between last night and now is the ambient temperature in my office, it’s a lot cooler now, I have a feeling the Xbox was thermal throttling.

That’s not something to pursue here but it is very concerning, the room was hot but I live in the UK, it was no hotter than any normal house with the heating on. The quality of the current gen consoles has been discussed to death already so I’ll not go there, but either way I’m satisfied that it isn’t a game issue.

Oh, excellent!

Glad to know the issue is gone. It would have been eating me up pretty good had that been me!

When my ACs off, and it’s around 28 or 29 degrees C inside the house, I keep the portable pedestal fan on which has a decent enough RPM. I’ve placed it on the left of the console - it gets a nice draft going through it and the console is also placed about half an inch off the table top using supplement bottle caps. Just for good measure, you know?!

Always a good idea to keep it cool. And the power supply needs to vent too so keep that in an open space, and do not place either on a carpet. It should be on a completely flat surface with no obstruction around it.

I’ve just seen a really bad frame-rate issue in a Trofeo league race. It froze up momentarily at the start of the race and then went away, but at the start of lap 3 it started stuttering really badly, like 10-15fps badly, and didn’t stop. I had to quit out because I couldn’t race like that.

I’ve never seen anything like that before in Forza 6. There were a fair few cars stopped on the grid so there were network issues, but that’s not unusual. This was something different.

Do you mean it stuttered every 10-15 seconds? Because that is known to happen at times when you’re connected. Hard-resetting the console fixes it for the time being.

However, if you’re saying the game starts to freeze up and goes down to 15 fps, that is highly unusual. Maybe time to contact Xbox Support.

Yeah, it dropped to a consistently low framerate for a period of several seconds - not sure exactly how long, but long enough for me to wait for it to go away, then conclude that it wasn’t going to, then quit.

It hasn’t happened again since then though.

Very odd. Should happen again, first try playing online, then do a hard reset.

How full is your HDD? I know that has nothing to do with it, but still. Do you clear Persistent Storage and Alternate MAC from time to time?
