Hi all,
First off, I’m not at all sure of where something like this (an opinion/suggestion for Horizon 4) would go, so if this is the wrong spot, whoever is in charge can delete this, by all means
Well, I hadn’t played Forza 4 in ages and one day I felt like seeing what it was like again, especially after a long period on Horizon 3 and FM6. Since I had a lot of in game money, I decided go into car shopping spree mode and see how much would it cost to buy every car I didn’t yet have at and under S class. About 250 cars in on that grid view (grid and multiselect are sorely missed), I went to see how much it was going to cost till then, clicked A twice by accident and then boom - my garage had 250 new cars and my ‘bank account’ now around 30 million credits poorer. It got me thinking though- I bought 250 cars for no particular reason other than that I could, and could also sell all 250 without a care in the world.
Around 2006/2007, a game (not sure if I can name it) came out that had a revolutionary feature which was basically an open map with several dealerships scattered all over said map, divided by make and by classics. The absolute best feature of all to me was when you went to buy a new car: you could choose exterior AND interior colour, as well as different factory wheels when available. That said, the cars in my garage weren`t just ‘cars’ - each of them had a character of their own. Like the orange Murcielago my friends hated but I loved it cos it was the first supercar I got, or the red Maserati Grandsport in which I ran from the police on the way home from the dealer cos I had no money left for the fine. They had a sense of uniqueness to them that cars in Forza lack.
What if Forza Horizon could use some of these features? Say, dealers would be split into mainstream (Ford, Chevy, Audi, BMW, etc); or doubled (like Abarth+Fiat, Cadillac+Chrysler, etc); ‘used’ (1985 - 1985-2010 for example), Classics (pre 1985) and more extreme racing ones (like the rally trucks) . In a Ford dealer you’d have a single Mustang on the ‘showroom’, but an option to get either the Ecoboost (cheapest), V8 (mid range) and GT350 (Best and most expensive) and go from there, kind of like that ‘build your own’ things. In Porsche dealers, a deal could be struck to have more options like ceramic brakes and stuff. You would buy ‘your’ car, not just ‘a’ car.
Although I agree that engine swaps and designs and aftermarket upgrades sort of make these things redundant (though I for one think that they make things a little repetitive at times) , and some people would rather have all the cars available in one place (autoshow), I feel like this would add an unprecedented level of realism. It goes without saying that some cars offer no customization, like non-new cars (by the example above, pre 2010) and some more racing - oriented vehicles, but its been on my mind for a while now and I thought it would be nice to see if its just me or if any of you also get bored with buying cars as it is now. Sorry about the long post too!
Looking forward to hearing from y’all
