So when I first purchased Forza Motorsport 7, I was absolutely shocked by the awrful defualt handling. now some weeks later, I have a new SIM rig setup, have made countless tweaks to the ffb and driving settings, now the game has grown on me massively so I’d like to apologize for calling it the worst handling game ever sorry!
Now on to the second part of my thread, I love all the real world tracks( well the ones that will load) I feel for an arcade game turn 10 studios have done a great job of making it nearly simulator quality, I am especially enjoy the Forza drivers cup well until I’m forced to drive the fabricated tracks like Dubai where confetti shoots across the track in front of you which would never ever happen in real life!
Motorsport in the real world is still very dangerous and drivers can still loose their lives in a crash so you would never compromise a driver’s view on purpose so lap after lap I’m forced to think this is the Devs Purely saying look what we can do, look what we can do, look what we can do, I’d be interested to see if other people feel the same an just grind threw those race to get to the awesomeness of spa and let man’s!
I love made up tracks, especially when they are done right.
I used to hate Rio and Dubai for example but after learning them inside out they definitely give a different challenge to the real tracks and give the developers room to use there imagination and create some stunning views. It also gives the game something you can not find anywhere else in the current selection of games.
Project Cars 2 does this but also takes it a step further with true classic track variations with modern tracks. Classic Monza, Spa and the proper classic Le Man’s for example are fantastic. Would love Turn 10 to do something similar and bring some long lost layouts to the game.
Then you look at Gran Turismo, they also have some iconic created tracks that are exclusive to that game. I think to be competitive created tracks give something exclusive to a racing franchise that can generate more sales and enhance an experience but a balance must be struck as you need a good mix of real tracks.
Classic tracks are absolutely amazing I think F1 2013 was the first modern game to bring them in, they aren’t purely fabricated like Rio and dubai and are a total different kettle of fish I mean what Motorsport fan wouldn’t love Jerez where Schumacher and Villeneuve battled it out, estoril and imola in any game.
I feel there’s enough real world tracks past and present for game makers to get stuck into they could even bring back real destination races from the past maybe it’s just me but race driver grid 2 was a very bad game for going too fantasy and not enough real world in my book, great response bud!
The best variant of Imola is one that never existed: chicaneless Tamburello and Villeneuve with the mid-section of the post-1994 layout. Pre-1994 has the proper straight, but chicanes in Acque Minerali. Post-1994 has a smooth Acque Minerali but the stupid chicanes at Tamburello and Villeneuve.
When real life tracks are becoming more like Yas Marina and CotA and less like Spa-Francorchamps, I couldn’t give a damn about them. Take Bernese Alps for example: everything about it screams vintage, with the long, high speed corners.
And the vintage tracks in Project CARS 2 are no different from a mod for rFactor. But some people love their vintage Faretti billboards and fake sepia filters on the screen so there’s always a public for that.
Pre-1980 didn’t have the chicane at Acque Minerali (and obviously no Tamburello/Villeneuve chicanes either), and pre-1972 had no Alta or Bassa chicanes either
This is one thing I very seriously miss in Forza - gorgeous fantasy tracks from past games. They just grew on my like anything. I wish they would balance the roster with more fantasy tracks. And I’m using the term “fantasy” very loosely here, because those layouts were brilliant to drive on - I’m looking at you Camino, Iberion, Kaido, Positano, Sedona. Good times indeed.
Maple Valley has always been one of my favorite tracks in the game. It can be challenging and your set up has to be good to handle all the variations. I’ve had many great races there, though not all with great results! LOL
You have to keep in mind that it’s not that easy just to put a track in the game. There’s rights and licensing involved. We lost the Motegi tracks because Sony holds the rights to use them.
True liscening is a factor but there are ways round it such as suzuka being on project cars as sakkito there is also a lot of tracks and I mean alot on Wikipedia’s race track by capacity’s page there are 81 current venues and 10 defucnt venues alone!
I do feel Gran Turismo Sport does a better job with its fictional tracks. Majority of FM7s fictional tracks are tight narrow street circuits. When you look at the fictional tracks from Forza’s past its a little disappointing tracks like Sedona haven’t been brought forward into the new generation.
Maple Valley is a fantastic track but it’s the only fictional track in the game that is designed like a permanent race track, all the other are temporary tracks. Rio and Prague are fine driving by yourself but turn into carnage in a race. Dubai is alright if a bit lifeless. Bernese Alps i could take or leave, I mean scenery is nice.
When I look at GT Sport tracks it looks like a bit more creativity has gone into their track designs.
So overall I think I lean a bit more on the fictional side of race tracks but a good balance between fiction and real is always good. Wouldn’t mind more fictional tracks in FM8.
Bernese Alps always bothered me. For one thing, the Bernese Alps are in Switzerland. Road/circuit racing is banned in Switzerland with the exception of Time Trial formats.
To me the more tracks the better. Although there’s only so many ovals required in a game, the rest are very welcome.
I even miss some of the snake tracks from earlier games but that may just be me. New York, Motegi, Tsukuba - real/ made up - the more the merrier. I was glad to see Mugello, Maple and others return to this game but would still like more (wouldn’t we all).
I think the only fictional track I didn’t like was Sedona in FM 3 and 4. Most of them are great fun and beautiful too.
I’m so glad Maple Valley is back but I would love to have a tight, twisting track like Amalfi Coast or Fujimi Kaido or a gigantic beast track like Camino/Iberian.
I like the fictional tracks in this game (other than Rio). Indeed, I like them better than some of the real world tracks that, for me, are more of a “grind” - Bathurst, VIR, that track which is completely ruined by an awful chicane right at the end, et al.
VIR is too narrow for full sized race cars. For go-karts it would be good.
I would love to see classic Monza, just the oval part alone would be great. But for me if it’s real or fictional doesn’t matter as long it’s well made and offer space for multiple lines to take.
And as much i would love to see Monaco too i do know that with 24 players it would be impossible to race. There will be blood.
Plus some oddballs like Nardo or Ehra-Lessien, there are airfield test track in game so why not others too?
I like a well designed fictional track. Forza motorsport had a nice knock off of A1/Red Bull ring as well but it got canned.
It would be nice to have the tracks through time (especially Silverstone given it’s been in the game a long time in several different forms).
Good fictional tracks can be anything, they don’t have to follow circuit building guidelines, they don’t have to have huge skid pan run offs, they can be somewhere amazing if you want. I’m a big fan of Bernese Alps, also grand valley and autumn ring from the other game.
They let the game designers go a bit nuts free from the regs that stop real tracks from being a bit mental.
When the alternative is something like Circuit of the Americas or Abu Dhabi designed to make anything short of a full GT car feel slow and a bit feeble I know what is prefer.
I miss the Alpine Ring…The Red Bull Ring is still one of my favourite modern tracks, could even do an Osterreichring version too since they use so much similar tarmac.
The 50s Monza which included the full track + the oval would be brilliant (basically begin on the LHS of the start/finish straight, run current Monza minus the chicanes and have the Parabolica feed across to the RHS of the start/finish straight, then run the oval)
I hated Sedona, most of the layouts were just way too long and I could never get a good feel for it. Amalfi felt like it should be in a Horizon game (and basically was in FH2), Fujimi Kaido was fun but. Too many of the other ficitional circuits just feel like Need For Speed though (I’m looking at you Bernese Alps).
I loved watching everyone crashing into each other when they crossed the finish line.
I’m not really a fan of any of the Xbox One generation fictional tracks, unfortunately. Edit - Actually throw Bernese Alps in there as well, I despise that track too lol.
Still love Bernese Alps and Maple Valley through all the Forzas Ive played them in. Rio and Prague not so much. The worst part about the city fictional tracks is they don’t really expand outward and offer interesting alternative layouts. They also don’t feel like tracks, are too narrow, and don’t have a lot of good places for overtakes.
