I’ve been trying to play these GTX sportscar race ever since the week started, every lobby I enter, I find at max 6-8 players. Out of these 6-8 players, my times are 3-6 seconds faster and just before the race starts three or more players drop out of the race eventually the race starts with 4 players(Not sure if it’s due to pace or if its irrelevant)
I’ve joined VIR Lobby at 14th minutes of Practice time remaining, I was the only one, hoping people would join, but I swear to God man, NOT A SINGLE PLAYER joined the lobby for whole 14 minutes and I eventually had to back out of the event. What is going on? Where are the players, I was only able to complete one race out of 15 or more races entered but had to back out due to lack of players.
It will be the fact the races are an hour long. A lot of people just can’t commit to that (and others won’t want to finish the race if they are well behind).
Also is the Audi really that bad that it can give away over 50 PI to other cars?
30min races seem to be the maximum amount that a decent number of players will race for.
1hr plus should probably be reserved for organised events that are created by communities. Forza doesn’t do a great job of making this easy and accessible though…
For single player though, endurance racing has a much bigger audience I feel. They can be done when it suits you and can be paused and quick resumed (Xbox) which allows you to break up a race easily.
I don’t like endurance races even if i can pause in single player, I can play for 1 hour in a race, happened with Acc with LFM but i won’t waste 1 hour of my life with randoms in FM.
GTX is such a “catch all” division. Little balance to be found. Having Group 5, actual GTX (IMSA), M1 Procar, and some later SCCA trans am series cars from the 80’s and 90’s is a bit rough. On top of that you were running at VIR, which is either loved or absolutely hated…
If penalties weren’t being handed out like candy, it would likely be different. I frequently saw lobbies with lagging cars. This game is not at a level where endurance racing makes sense. Maybe it will crash during the race, that STILL happens.
No tire compound strategy possible (maybe that’s a good thing)
Low monetary incentive for an hour race (1st place 155k, 3rd place 145k)
Hourly mistake: The event you leave is the event you get back to in the rotation
End of race timer too short
I played in 3 races, all 3 had more DNF and DQ than finishers. Sometimes, even people leading seem to be like “Hold on … 33 laps?? I’m outta here!”
GTX is a great class but it doesnt seem to move the needle. Maybe if it was limited to Modern Hypercars people would be all over it, not me though. Obviously it’s a shame because T10 might think people don’t want longer races.
I watched the Mustang Challenge today at Wakins Glen (a car kickflipped!). That’s a 45min race. MX5 Cup races are also 45mins. Maybe 1hr is too long for most Forza players.
They need to fix the phantom race ending. I still haven’t been able to finish lap 1 on the ring in MP. If i got half way through an endurance race and that happened I’d be pretty disappointed.
Tyre wear is one of it’s issues I believe, just finished a 27 lap Road America race where most of the field could do 9 laps (and thus two-stop) but the Audi driver had to pit after 8, thus making it a three-stopper and completely ruined it for them.
This is the only part I disagree with. This division should be broken down into it’s parts. Actual GTX should be it’s own division, there are some amazing cars that ran GTX (IMSA) back in the day that we don’t have. Group 5 should also be it’s own division, with some of the missing cars actually sitting in the car suggestions hub as we speak. The only group of cars within GTX that have close to enough to be it’s own division is the SCCA Trans Am cars from the 80’s-'90s, you can throw in the IMSA GTO cars as the rules were very similar.
The odd car out in this case is the '74 RSR Porsche. It has no place in the GTX division, either as it sits now, or if separated out.
This division has over 20 years worth of cars in it when racing cars at the time lasted no more than a couple of years till the next best thing came along.
Does this race allow you to use an existing set up or do you have to create a new tune at the PI the event allows? (or run it with the default tune which is crap)
I’ve already got all these cars set up at either S800 or R900 and no more space to create more saves. Cannot be bothered making room for a temporary event
I do think that the concept is a good idea. It just needs careful implementation.
The hour long race is going to be a tough sell under any circumstances. To be popular, the car division and the eligible models would have to be well known and widely used by players. Having the single car Porsche 963 which was free at the time, was a pretty good start. Unfortunately, the current division is not a popular one and I don’t think many players want to spend that much time driving those particular cars. Also the performance gap between the eligible cars is too great, there are a couple of “meta” cars and they usually win, which makes for boring races.
I had one race, admittedly only six entrants stayed for the race, but there was some good close fair racing, the stuff that you almost never see in FM. That was very gratifying, to see that it actually is possible to have fair and fun racing in a multiplayer game.
The term “randoms” that was used above is bothersome to me. All of us are “randoms” at some point. Most of the players don’t have a posse of buddies poised to get online with. I don’t have the time and frankly, gamers aren’t the sort of people I would choose to hang with anyway. If a “random” is in the game looking for the same sort of experience that I’m looking for, they’re a friend to me.
Can players that are further behind even finish the race? If races finish so many seconds after first crosses the line, chances are half the field wouldn’t finish an endurance race.
That kind of thing would put me off playing them entirely.
