Almost everybody stops playing in Winter

I love Winter, especially the lighting and the offroad races. Sadly, the whole season thing isn’t thought through. The main problems with winter are usually challenge zones you simply can’t beat during that season and tunes that are more or less suitable for the other three seasons but not winter. Snow tires by default during winter would help a lot.

If I had made seasons a major feature of the game, the rest would focus on seasons too:

  • certain races and challenges only in certain seasons
  • forced current season in Horizon Life events and championships
  • forced current season in ranked game
  • freely selectable season in offline mode (not only for races)
  • free tire choice for every race (different selections for different races during a championship/ranked race) - exception: winter (forced snow tires then)
  • seasonal Avatar outfits for atmosphere (no more showing up in winter cloths to a summer race)

Not the game’s fault that Horizon’s audience isn’t educated enough to appreciate the beauty of winter and the nuances of winter driving.

It’s easily the best looking season and the only one to feature a full moon. Night driving is better during winter for this exact reason. In summer we have new moon so the roads are very dark at night.

I mean… Skyline is AWD. Plenty of Japanese tuners are FWD. Many hypercars are AWD and you can just convert those that aren’t, as most people do anyway. Where’s the problem?

Rerunning Gauntlet with my 22B, Audi quattro and other rally cars is one of the best things I can do in this game. It’s truly a brilliant track and even better in winter, because the lakes freeze, so you don’t have to deal with water near the end.

Blizzard Mountain was more realistic. Most cars were undrivable without snow tires.

Cannot deny that winter season looks absolutely stunning and it offers variety to the game.
Nevertheless, I am also one of the guys who hardly play the game during the winter week…

As I already mentioned elswhere in the forum, on Monday i even switched to Forza Horizon 3, just to be able to drive in summer athmosphere…
dunno…its just…for me, cruising around, listen to music and summer feeling just belong together.

Again… i absolutely appreciate the excellent work of the designers regarding the winter theme, but being forced to drive an entire week in winter is too much.

What’d be fun(ny) is if we could get FH3 revamped with four seasons as well, then you synch the two games so they’ll have opposite seasons from each other (winter in FH4 means it’s summer in FH3, and vice versa).

I really love winter. I looks beautiful, driving is incedible enjoyning, and sounds so goooood to me, when im driving througt the deep snow.
In real live, i dont like winter. But in the game is it my favourite season.

let’s be honest … it is an exaggeration. Also, it’s a fundamental part of the game, learn to love the diversities or even see it as a different challenge.

I’m Canadian. If there’s one thing I don’t need in my life, it’s more winter driving.

But seriously. I probably play a bit less during in-game winter, but probably not a lot less on average than other seasons.

I’m Canadian and I think they should make it so you can get stuck in the snow and reduce grip on icy roads even more.

Got to be my favorite time of the year to drive. Just requires more skill with the driving and altering your lines. Can’t just drive like you would during the summer. Bang some winter tyres on and get out there and enjoy it.

Autumn and winter are the best seasons in FH4.
The end.

I almost agree… those hay bales, though…

I was disappointed with how grippy winter is. Dirt drift zones seem to have more grip. Snowy roads are ok. “Icy roads” are hardly different from wet roads. And personally, the watery/icy road thing is disgusting. Horizon winter looks like early spring/late fall more than actual winter, which, living in Alaska, everyone knows driving in those times is almost always worse than the middle of winter (plus your car gets covered in dirt immediately, which is reflected in Horizon).

That’s one complaint I had as well. In winter, the lakes and rivers should be frozen solid before they’re safe to drive on. In Horizon, there are puddles of standing water on the lake, which I’m sure makes for some nice in-game obstacles, but in real life – around here, anyway – would be a sign that the lake is starting to thaw, and maaaaaaybe you shouldn’t be driving your car on it. Generally, that shouldn’t happen until late February at the earliest. You might see it in November/December if you have a flash freeze followed by a thaw and rain, but again, that is way too early to be driving on it.

This is dissapointing that lake is in that condition that in real life wouldnt want to drive there and they could have done so mutch more with that lake, now it’s just one big open area what is bad to drive and one drag strip. It would really nice to have ice circuit there i have so mutch fun when i was teenager to drive in winter on ice circuit and even now when im over 30years old it’s really fun to take old volvo and power slide around those corners. Would be so mutch fun if could that in fh4 also.

That’s a great idea. There’s room for more than one circuit. If the tracks were “plowed” with berms on the sides, it would add to the obstacle factor in freeroam rush, similar to the current puddles and drifts.

Circuits on the frozen lake might be included soon. I, along with a couple of others, submitted custom route events [for the recent contest] that take place on the ice. Hopefully one or two of these will be added to the ‘blueprint’ menu as ‘Editor’s Picks’

I noticed yesterday that the lake is actually thawing. Wanted to drive over it and * splash * …
So, at the beginning of the winter season, the lake is frozen. And at the end he will thaw. Really cool.

Yeah it makes no sense. They should cover more of the lake in thick snow or drifts if they want to slow people crossing it, not water. There are a few ponds/lagoons in my city that freeze during winter. They’re always covered in snow unless they’ve been plowed and hot-mopped for ice skating. If you want to ice fish you have to dig down to ice, first.

If it was true to life the winter would be just rain and winds with about 2 minutes of snow (which would bring the hold map to a grinding halt). This is the UK, we don’t really do proper winters.

Exactly, either just an extended autumn but a bit colder and everyone moans or
1ft of snow and MASS PANIC!!!, no bread or milk in supermarkets and forecasts of the apocalypse…

But; I like winter and driving on snow, ice etc. Great fun last night sliding a Beetle Rally Monster around off-road scoring multiple ultimate drifts…

wanders off singing “Let it go!”
