It should be made that if the ai hit and can spin you out in a race you can do the same to them. Little un fair when you try to push them over to keep from hitting a car and they don’t budge any.
It would be good if they were a little more realistic. I don’t mind them being fairly ram resistant as you shouldn’t really need to ran them to win anyway but some variation in driving styles would be great. I’m hoping the single player game has a bit more of a competitive feel - maybe with a few other “horizon drivers” being your rivals for the festival - fh4’s single player was very bland.
AI’s are as aggressive as you and people on your friends list are. Stopping slamming and pushing them around, race them clean, and you want have such a bad experience with them.
From my experience playing, almost 3 years, that has never been true. None of my friends, including 2 real life friends, are rammers and smashers. But when they are AI drivers they change. They used to claim the AI were adaptive to your racing style, you wreck them first, but that was bunk as well, I don’t intentionally wreck people. Contact will happen in racing occasionally, especially in dirt, but I never intentionally ram someone, yet the AI start the race trying to push me into walls
If they developed algorithms around this, it’s completely faltered. The fact is, when FH4 launched it was enjoyable to race against Drivatars…now, it is completely unrealistic & unenjoyable. The weekly Forzathon Seasonal Events are now extremely frustrating & much less enjoyable than before the Lego expansion & Drivatar coding rehash.
Think you answered your own question. Drivatar’s were great in the beginning because there was no driver history. Now that your friends have built up a Drivatar history they aren’t so much fun.
For example: me and buddy#1 race together door to door race after race no collision’s between us or the Drivatar’s and Drivatar’s hold a nice racing line just like us, no aggression. Add in buddy#2 who is out to kill every Drivatar and our races turn to crap. Drivatar’s do everything they can to disrupt wreck everyone. It’s absolutely horrible racing.
That may have been the original intention, but I have been able to show time and time again, that the AI performance and behavior is predetermined, and your friends names are randomly assigned.
An easy way to show this is do a three part activity. Switch cars (pref with one with a different PI), after the first race. Now check the lineup. Names are rearranged at minimum, and may even be switched out for the start of the second race…
Another good test: chose an extremely long race so the results are obvious. Do this race multiple times. Hmmm… Friend 1 may be the best racer and hard to beat in the first race and is very aggressive. Now in the second race Friend 1 is a klutz, can’t get out of his/her own way, finishes last, very passive.
Thanks for this, but I am not understanding what is wrong with my first test. In solo mode, I do race 1 in car 1 then look at the results. I switch to car 2 for race 2 and look at the lineup. The scores are the same, but the names are not what was listed at the end of race 1. At the start of race 3 I switch to car 3, now when I check the lineup, again the points are the same, but the names are changed again, often with different ones. Maybe at my old age I am being dense, and I am not trying to be defensive, but I am not understanding what you are saying and my test is not valid. Thanks
I think what FH3 and FH4 is missing most from the AI is the feeling that they’re real drivers who do sometimes make mistakes. FM6 had this and it was refreshing to see them occasionally overshoot a corner and give you an opportunity to pass. Right now regardless of difficulty the AI in FH4 are on rails and often ignore the laws of physics to stay on track. Other posters have said they match how your friends drive, but I’m pretty sure that’s no longer a thing as I’ve heard the feature got turned off and the AI racers with my friend’s names don’t drive like they do. May have had something to do with people who had fast friends ending up with nearly unbeatable opponents every race regardless of difficulty level since it defaults to filling AI slots with drivatars from your friend list.
I know writing race AI is hard, but it would be nice to have AI that do mess up occasionally. On higher difficulties this could be much less as RL professional race drivers rarely make mistakes, and they could cheat a little (maybe have a top difficulty called “unfair” where they’re not even shy about it), but still happen often enough to feel like you’re racing against imperfect human racers.
The whole “AI drivatars drive like your friends do” is the biggest load of BS PGG has ever tried to unload on us. I’m shocked and a little insulted that they’re sticking to that narrative. They really don’t respect our intelligence if they think people wouldn’t find out otherwise.
True, many people don’t really have the opportunity to find out, but as someone who plays a lot of single player with drivatars and a lot of multiplayer with the people who the drivatars are based on, I can tell you with authority that the line is complete and utter tripe. My friends rarely block or ram, yet the AI ALWAYS does. I have some who brake early and some who are in the habit of braking late. That bears no relation to what their drivatar does. The worst drivers among my friends are usually the ones in the top spots. And not a single one of my friends has swerved wildly off the start in order to actively block people behind them, a trick I see employed every single race by drivatars.
And no, this isn’t a “maybe they drive differently when playing single player” situation. We have all discussed this. It’s pure fantasy, the idea that drivatars drive like the people they represent.
If I programmed the Ai to take a friend’s best lap time, and then another friend’s slower lap time, I could have those two cars come in 1st, and 2nd more often. I could then say that “AI drivatars drive like your friends do”. How you say things can be truthful but exaggerated.
That’s pretty thin. Also my friends don’t rubber band like the AI does.
I honestly think the “AI drives like your friends do” is just a smokescreen to cover up the fact that they made the AI more aggressive, and didn’t want people to complain about said aggression. It’d be an intelligent play, and one that I could totally understand, even if it is a bit sly against me as a consumer. Honestly I’d probably do the same in their shoes.
Yes I really hope they add “bosses” that talk to you and give you a sense of progression instead of boring drivatars which is BS.
FH1 story was so good for that reason, you could even win the cars at the end in a street race.
I also feel like 360 era IA is better than drivatars at driving, maybe that’s just me
Please playground, putting a gamertag on an IA is killing the progression and is not fooling anybody, do something, add cutscenes and protagonists !
