AI - AI does not appear affected by rain or wet tracks (1750188)

Why doesn’t the AI get affected by weather? When it starts raining, I pit for wets but the ai ahead of me keep racing. When I exit pitlane I see the time difference and they actually gain time on me while they’re on slicks and it’s pouring rain

I play with skill level 7 and I can tell the AI gets a lot easier to win against when it rains. Please always mention on what AI level you experienced said criticism, so it’s easier to understand how the AI can be improved.

I play on 7 too. But once it starts raining they fly by me unaffected on slicks

This is still a huge issue…

Do you even look at the forums?

Maybe because it’s posted as a suggestion and not a FM Report New Issues ?

Yep, this would be more fitting in the Troubleshooting Hub.

When racing a.i. in slicks, dry. I and a.i. seem to have similar grip.
When it starts raining, over time I lose nearly all grip. And I have to do one lap before I can pit. A.I. in same situation. We’re on slicks in wett. And a.i. doesn’t even lose a tiny bit of grip, while my car turns into a snail boat, and before half a lap, I am last position and all cars have dissapeared into distance and I can see they are pitting even before I have done half a lap.

A.I. doesn’t lose grip when track is wett, and they have slicks. Unlike the player, which loses nearly all grip. Completely unfair and unplayable.

When AI races on wets they tend to become a lot slower, nearly even too slow for my taste. A race in which it rains is really easy to win in wets. But when it begins to rain halfway through the race and you’re still on soft slicks, the AI seems to have no struggles at all.
I hope this is just a minor bug and not a physics problem.

yeah thanks for reply and I hope so too.

It’s lovely to experience weather changes during long races. But it is kind of unfair when I just passed the pit entry along with A.I., and we’re all on slicks when it gets really wett, I get overtaken by nearly all a.i. drivers on slicks as they zoom into the distance and pit for wett tires, when I am still not even halfway across the track.

Bug Info: In single player mode, tyres aren’t performing as expected. I changed to wet tyre just as it started raining, lead car stayed on slicks, when back on the track, lead car was still running at dry lap times despite it raining heavily, we were lapping similar times on slicks, but lead car was running the same speed on slicks even in the heavy rain. It renders pit tactics useless. Also seems no tyre wear in single player.

Yup, got the same issue… it doesnt make any sense to drive races with variable weather. When it turns from dry to wet you cannot drive cause it is so slippery, but ai is just driving like its dry. Doesnt make fun.

I set an endurance on the Nurburgring full circuit with variable weather. No rain at the beginning but it started to rain at the beginning of 5th lap. I had to do a full lap (>20km) with slick tires at ultra low speed to keep the car on track. At the same time, the AI was not impacted by the change of grip on track and was still running super super fast.

I suspect that the grip of AI is totally biased under these conditions, it is always set to maximal value. I haven’t checked if this happens on other tracks but these might be the case.

It happens on all tracks, ai arent effected by the rain like the player is. They do pit to change tires when it rains, but more often than not since theres no weather updates by our trusty engineer this exact situation happens everytime especially right after i pass the pit entrance it starts raining.

I totally agree,

just to update if you haven’t been playing but it still hasn’t been fixed and it is 100% noticeable…

This might honestly be the last shove I needed to switch to GT7 because dynamic weather is one of my favorite parts of racing; especially wet vs. slick strategy and when to change tires. I remember seeing a video of GT7 ai sliding off the track when they stayed on slicks and that’s something I want to see

Newest FOMO series with the V10s. First race on Kayalami and it transitions to dumping rain at the end of lap 2. Im miles ahead the entire lap and then the rain starts to pour, my car feels like its on ice, while every other car blows my doors off, being able to turn in as if they’re on wets already.

I restarted and checked everyones tires after I had checked the first time. And they were all on wets, And it defaulted me to wets as well after the restart, where it had me on medium slicks the first time.
This game is so poorly made its an insult to the very process of development, let alone the art of coding and programming.

Been trying to beat the Career Mode Brands Hatch Endurance race (with the Touring Cars), where it begins to rain on Lap 6. I have tried this race three times now, with varying settings, but generally on difficulty 6 with simulated fuel/tires. The pre-race menu never shows what tires AI are on. Below is what happened on the three attempts:

Attempt #1) Started 24th. Start on Hards. Rain starts Lap 6, track becomes wet, lose 2-3 seconds of pace. Stabilize around 7th, AI starts stretching lead and I pit end of lap 7 for Wets. Only one AI pits for Wets before Lap 14 (end of Lap 9). I quit out and restart because I have zero chance.

Attempt #2) Started 16th. Start on Hards. Same rain behavior/lap time loss. I don’t pit for Wets this time, but AI continues stretching lead, gaining 1-2s on me per lap on me once it starts raining and never pit for Wets either. Again, I quit out around Lap 13 because AI is ignoring the rain and gapping me.

Attempt #3) Started 24th. Turn off simulated tires/fuel. Choose Softs in tire choice. Get to 1st by lap 4. Rain starts lap 6, lose pace as per usual. 18 AI pits for Wets at end of lap 10, other 5 AI at end of lap 11. Race completely trivialized, I’m ahead by 30 some seconds.

What gives? Why is the AI all over the place? The AI never pits for Wets when I’m behind them, on simulated tires. But I turn off simulated tires, get in the lead, and then they all pit for Wets? And then there’s the fact their lap times aren’t affected at all by the wet track until it downpours (around Lap 14). Can we fix this if we’re going to support endurance races?

Just to note, this is separate from the below two issues. The three issues certainly all affect how the AI Endurance Races function though, and all to the detriment of the player experience.

The developers have investigated this and determined this is by design. Through careful throttle, brake and steering control, they are excellent at managing tires and avoiding hydroplaning, understeer and oversteer states when the track is wet. You won’t see them sliding around because they’re laser focused on maintaining traction. However, the cost of their focus to cautiously manage car control does result in slower lap times, so rain definitely has an effect on their performance.
