Accurate Transmission Controls

It would be cool to have another transmission setting besides Auto, Manual, or Manual with Clutch, where the transmission is set to whatever the vehicle you’re driving has. For example, an automatic-only car shifts automatically and how it would in real life; a dual clutch vehicle only requires you to change up or down gears, as in “Manual"; and a full manual car requires you to change gear and operate the clutch, as in “Manual with Clutch”.

I agree!

Perhaps, in the menu when choosing what transmission type you’d prefer, have the 3 options, and add in a “factory equipped” option. It’d function just like you said, and it can change with swapping out the transmission to any of the race ones.

Totally agree with the OP; was about make a topic myself!

While this would require some dev time to implement (changes to the upgrade menu, assigning transmission type to cars, and new UI elements) it would 100% be worth it, IMO, and greatly enhance the experience.

Might also be worth considering a ‘light’ version which doesn’t require clutch, eg:

  • Vehicle-matched; and
  • Vehicle-matched w/clutch

Though maybe that kind of defeats the point; I personally use ‘w/clutch’ so would be opting for the ‘full’ version myself.

the problem with racing games is that auto transmission only shift near redline, that’s not the case in real cars.
with most cars driving 40Mph or under with auto and you’ll stuck with 1st gear, so for cruise role playing ppl driving auto in game would be awkward, what do you think?

also manual clutch only prevent damage, but not totally engage/disengage.
no engine stall on undertorque start (still sort of clutch auto engage-disengage)

after long side swipe or total lost of control with the clutch depressed, throttle response is massively delayed :roll_eyes:why?

For the RP, it could be great if two options could change automatically the transmission to suits to the car’s transmission

Let me explain. Actually, in the Forza Horizon franchise, if you want to make the transmission (automatic, manual or manual + clutch), you have to :
→ Go to the menu
→ Go to settings
→ Go to difficulty
→ Change the transmission
→ Save
→ Go back to the menu
→ Go back in the game

Now, imagine repeating this 10-20 times per game sessions. It is boring. And if you play with a gearbox (with a wheel), you have to repeat this action even more times because of the cars that have sometimes 8/9/10 speeds.

I think it could be really great if we had two options that selects automatically the transmission depending of the car you drive.

We could have a “Sport transmission” that choses to select manual or manual with the clutch when the car permits it (for example, the Bentley Turbo R doesn’t let the driver controling the transmission at all, but a Ferrari 458 Italia has a sequential mod). We could also have a “Comfort transmission” that choses to select an automatic transmission when it is possible (in a race car or in a car that comes with a real manual transmission, so, with a clutch, it is not possible).

Yes, speaking for myself and probably alot of other people by saying this but a realistic automatic transmission like in beam.ng drive. I feel like it would be pretty nice especially for RP and for people who have not quite learned manual yet and drive automatic, but dont wanna hear their engine at 6k rpm constantly when they’re trying to go a certain speed.

Welcome to Forza Forums!

I would really love to see this in Forza. I already use the stick when in a stick car (like a '69 Charger), and paddles when in a paddle car (like the Maserati Gran Turismo FE). It would be nice to have it where it would automatically set to a manual if I were driving, let’s say, my Colorado, or any other car that uses a manual transmission without having to go into settings and change back to automatic.

BeamNG is the perfect example. BeamNG has correct automatic behavior, where the transmission tries to stay in the highest gear for efficiency, like in real life. You can also set BeamNG to “realistic” mode, which is essentially what we’re describing here, where it will follow the specific transmission type of the car you’re driving

While on it, add actual automatic transmission, where shifting between Drive, Neutral, and Reverse is done by drivers. In real cars, brake pedal won’t become reverse gas pedal, no matter how hard you press it

Add a shifting difficulty option where you only control between drive and reverse while the game does the forward gears for you like in a real automatic car.
