Noticed there was a significant amount of understeer on all my cars and decided to watch a replay with telemetry on. My settings have ABS On, yet the video and telemetry share the fronts locking up completely. Is anyone else experiencing this?
Same! I have a post about my experience. Anytime i touch my brakes, the car pulls left or right u predictably like they are locking up and turning while braking is basically non-existant because of understeer my tires squeal and slide even at low speeds.
Yes, even the slightest brake pressure causes some cars to lock up immediately and they just plow straight while turning into a corner. No adjustments to the wheel/game settings seem to have any effect. Not all cars do this but alot do
Glad to know its not just me, I was starting to go crazy!
I noticed my fronts locking up in the replay as well. So I tested the same car at Road America. While driving in 3rd person view & looking at the side of the car with the right thumb stick, I slammed on the brakes & the wheels did not lock up. Then I watched the replay, & the replay shows them locking up. Are they really locking up, or is it just the replays showing them as locking up?
Yes, I am having the same issue
I suspect (I don’t know for sure) that this is a graphical glitch, because I’ve only noticed it in replays. If I pan the camera around in chase cam during the race, I don’t see the fronts lock up this way.
You may be right, but it definitely feels like my brakes lock up anytime i even barely hit the brakes which makes my car jerk left or right and slide. Im using my wheel but in automatic shifting, could that be my issue?
I also think that’s a visual bug of the replay. To test it I sent telemetry via udp to an external app, and during the race with “abs on” there was no blockage reported. Nevertheless the replay showed the front tires blocking almost in every turn. Do you know if this bug have been reported in the “Known Issues” / “New Issues” sections?
Same behavior for me. ABS On, but I see front wheels lock up in replays. I also find that every car I drive wants to under steer on heavy braking. It seems like they must be locking up. Every Forza Motorsport in recent memory tends towards under steer, so I didn’t think much of it until I watched a replay.
Understeer under heavy braking might be the game really showing tyre physics working correctly. Total available grip is always divided between braking and turning, which is why braking is recommended to occur while the car is going straight. After that the skill of trail braking comes to play in order to get that perfect balance during turns.
More replay bugs but the braking in this game is as awful if not more awful than that trash The crew motorsport aka the ubicrap FH ripoff/wanna be. Both games have practically no braking whatsoever. Both games are like driving on ice and both games with ABS off lock up the brakes instantaneously if you even think about touching the brake. In FM3/4 I hated ABS as it made braking non existent compared to riding the lockup threshold without ABS. ABS in FH4/5 works good.
It makes sense that grip is divided between braking and turning, but on heavy braking weight transfers in favor of front wheels. This will give much more overall grip to the front wheels and much less to the rear wheels. At this point steering input, especially strong steering input, should induce oversteer in most cases. I rarely experience the is FM. Light braking into a turn, strong braking into a turn, neutral into a turn, it doesn’t seem to matter in FM. As with previous FM games, the game just seems to tend towards understeer.
The game definitely is understeer-centric. Pretty much every sim/race tuber has came to the same conclusion. Jimmy Broadbent was pretty explicit about how bad it is.
