Ability to "downtune" cars

Hello there,
this topic is about the ability to downtune or rather remove power from cars.
My favorite classes to drive in FH5 are A 800 and S1 900. However, many cars are either already too fast for those classes or are incapable of reaching S1 900 for example. My suggestion therefore is to give us the option to decrease a cars engine power in order to reduce its PI. That would make building cars more diverse and fun as more cars will be able to hit certain class requirements.
This could for example be achieved by adding a “restrictor plate” tuning option that lets us remove some power.
This feature would be great as it would allow us to drive the cars we want in most of the classes we want to drive them in.

Best Regards

A slider would be much better that way i can fine tune to the individual 1 pi plus/minus i need and in addition it means one can run max power upgrades and just adjust the tune before races instead of rebuilding halve of the car to fit xyz class or whatever
Also movable balast from 0-2000lbs to weigh down drift cars even more and be more precise with power to weight

True, a slider would be really nice. An option for Ballast is also a really good idea, maybe also in order to fine tune weight balance?
My idea for the restrictor plate was for it to be in the normal upgrades menu, meaning you would still have to switch tunes before a race in order to change your PI Class, but i guess your idea would mean a slider in the Tuning menu? That would also be an option, but i think that would also entail some bugginess and also exploits if you are able to change your PI right before the race.

Forza, please add the ability to decrease power but PLEASE don’t do it via a slider!

Great suggestion, I was going to post it myself

If I can upgrade a slow car to be approved for championship, why not downgrading a fast one for the same purpose? Besides, I prefer B-class and A-class cars in Forza, I find them much more enjoyable than S1/S2-class monsters

However, I’d like not only to be able to use power restrictor or ballast, but even to swap engine for less powerful one. That applies especially to cars that had slower variants in previous Forza games but were later replaced with their “meaner” counterparts (e.g. Challenger SRT8 replaced with Hellcat/Demon, Corvette C7 Stingray replaced with Z06, fifth-gen Camaro SS replaced first with ZL1 and then with Z/28, or Ferrari 360 Modena replaced with 360 Challenge Stradale).

I wish I could restore performance (and look) of those original variants at least with upgrades menu, if not having them as “normal” separate cars.

We should be able to reduce HP so that cars that have bodykits of slower versions like the Audi RS5 can be accurately downtuned

Then it would make more sense to get a regular version in the game and be able to convert it into the faster version

True but not all the cars are like that so the devs would have to change them

So you’d like to run a lower than factory hp F1 or fxxk?

No thanks.

Maybe alter the class system to cover more cars

or swap like a V6 into Musclecars

Normal cars not hypercars like audis bmws

Do you mean like what Zakspeed did with the Viper? They couldnt reduce the engine size of it when regulations changed due to homologation, so cutely removed parts from and blocked up the front 2 cylinders making it a sort of V8 even though it was still technically a V10. They still used the same block. Just not the whole block.

Would definitely like the ability to drop smaller and less powerful engines into any vehicle and get them below their native performance class. Even hypercars.

I know that it is possible to downgrade cars to lower levels using different tyres and such, but what if we got the option to actually downgrade our cars. For instance, what if we really want to drive a LaFerrari in A800? We then get the option to downgrade the tyres, swap the engine for a less powerful one and add weight to the car to get it lower.

If this is all a bit ambitious, what about just adding a new tuning tab in which we are able to limit our car’s power output. Add in a new limiter to the customization menu and then we can tune the power output on the fly. Granted, this would then mean the class of the car would change on the fly, but it would be cool.

One minute your Dodge Demon has over 1,000 hp, the next it barely makes it up the hill with 100 hp. That may be a bit extreme. The alternative would be to give us smaller, less powerful engines to play around with. Maybe include the manufacturer’s own smaller engines in the engine swap tab. Like the Chevy Camaro ZL1 - it has a 6.2-liter supercharged V8, but add in the N/A 6.2 V8, 3.6-liter V6 and 2.0-liter turbo-4 to make it an SS, RS and LT.

Want a Mercedes-AMG E63 with a turbocharged 4-cylinder? Go for it! A Lexus RCF with the engine from a Honda Civic Type R? No problem. What about a Koenigsegg Jesko with the 4-cyl twin-charged from a Volvo S60 Polestar?

I just think this would be add a bit of fun to the already pretty great experience and would open up a whole new type of racing. Maybe we could jump into a race with a B700 Renault 4L and see a Bugatti Chiron being powered by the 2.0T from a Golf GTI. Maybe then we could try and create the 5-cyl turbo Audi R8 which almost happened.

Just thought it would be a good idea.

These are all great ideas, such great ideas that other games have had them implemented for years now. But forza is consistently about a decade behind its competitors so we might see them soon. The 2013 title Gran turismo 6 (possibly even earlier titles, this is just the one i remember doing so) had the ability to increase weight and to limit power to lower your performance index, as well as putting as low as economy tyres on your LMP car which provided some interesting results to say the least. Also need for speeds latest title unbound has the option to put lesser engines in some of the super/hyper cars so we’ll probably see that feature in about 10 years or so

I think that feature would be a good idea, and you’re right about making tuning more interesting.
Perhaps being able to remove stock turbos could be an option for those with them. But something like that would be nice.

So you want FM7’s Homologation system? Why??

What the OP is looking for is simply a downgrade of the car, not an FM7 homologation system.

For example, there are several useless hypercars in the S2 class.
These are not bad cars, but they are models whose performance cannot be increased enough to reach the upper PI limit of the S2 class, while either the performance cannot be reduced to the S1 class or doing so would make the car very difficult to drive.
The OP’s proposal is to downgrade these cars to S1 class by removing excessive power from these cars or by adding ballast for a car weight that is too light to give them a use.

It is also important to note that such detuning is not forced on the player by the game system, but can only be done at the player’s discretion.
For example, you are free to use La Ferrari in the S2 class, and I am free to detune this car for use in the S1 class.

This is the difference between FM7’s bad homologation system and the OP’s proposal.

A restrictor plate option to detune cars would be perfect!

Drop a thousand horsepower engine into an Isetta and nobody bats an eye. Drop a lawn mower engine into a Ferrari and everyone thinks you’ve lost your mind.

I would drop worse engines into vehicles because it would be fun(ny.) Also because all of the cars with powered convertibles are in higher PI classes.

@nb3254 raises a great point! There’s a Porsche 911 Cabrio which is S1 default and is honestly not very good. If I could get it into A class without giving it awful tires then the car could have some potential!
