A Couple of Things I Don't Like

First thing I don’t like is during online racing other players drive with the throttle at full at all times slamming themselves and whoever happens to be in their way into corner walls. It’s very irritating driving along, breaking for that first turn in third place and getting slammed by every car behind you dropping you all the to last place. So I doubt I’ll play online much and it’s fine, the SP part is a lot of fun.

The second thing I don’t like is that to hear my own music, I have to get a subscription to M$ Groove Music. I have an library of over 38k songs and I can’t listen to them on my Xbox One…or at least I don’t know if there’s a way without blasting my PC.

Other than those two things, this game is great.

You don’t need a Groove pass to hear your own music I thought? You just need to put your music in the right OneDrive folder and make a playlist in the Windows 10 app.

There are also Xbox One apps for background music which play music from a USB drive if you don’t feel like streaming.

All I wanted was to drive JDM rwd cars, but when I first started playing and looked for a tune online, to my surprise, all the top popularity and recommended downloads have the drive train swapped to awd… Worse, is the tunes all forewent handling, grip etc and just focused on acceleration.

Those tunes may work for online controller play and perhaps with assists, but I play with a wheel in cockpit view and prefer to race circuits, and those tunes are terrible at cornering…

Thank goodness for people who make websites and apps for tuning, it got me started on making proper tunes for myself that let me enjoy my driving.

This game’s PI system drastically favours high power, awd, low grip builds.

As you told me several months ago. Fortunately, many online contact lobby players can’t sort these builds out sufficiently so as to be able to race them. They can set decent rivals times with them, but put other cars on the track and them anywhere other than pole for the race start, and many who subscribe to this philosophy struggle for wins because they can’t get enough drive to complete an overtake against a half-decent driver in a half-decent car. It’s funny to hear them moan about being obstructed when the problem is that their lack of grip limits their ability to dictate their line.

I agree with mhp, he is a very fast safe driver and is almost always a podium contender. I like to have handling over just straight speed and I also almost always contend for podium spots. You must pick and choose when to pass, that can be frustrating but it can be done. You would be surprised how many drivers start to push a little too hard when the hear an engine right behind them. They go wide you pass below. If he sticks to his line and you aren’t fast enough to safely pass, then you finish behind him. It is not he end of the world. My biggest pet peeve is 1500 HP handling of 4.5 in a class B car. Those are undrivable.

Side note MHP86 has the fastest Volvo that I has seen in the game.

They only way you will be able to compete in online adventures is being AWD. There are tunes out there that do concentrate on cornering but if you just download them you do not know what you will get. It took me a little while and some research to be able to tune for handling and power. It is a delicate balance, but most of my cars are very competetive and I normally only lose to a few people. Bottom line is put some time into learning how to set up a car for your driving style and learn how to drive it fast and clean and you will be surprised how many races you win.

This. Barring stepping into a room with the likes of some of the top-100 rival leaderboard guys who can actually race (Precision Blast readily comes to mind), you’ll often beat the majority of online players with clean, consistent, skillful driving. As Navy can attest, I typically use cars that are in a relatively light state of tune (few race parts outside of the engine and suspension, no aero, and no engine/drivetrain swaps), and barring a serious acceleration/top speed deficit, I’m often a podium contender, if not the winner. I’m no Fernando Alonso either; outside of our club, many of my passes transpire because the opponent’s tune stinks at cornering, the driver is bad at cornering, or both. If you choose to continue racing in contact lobbies, my advice is to be observant and selective about your moves. If you notice that the car ahead tends to plow like a school bus, then you might not want to take him around the outside. Or don’t always go full tilt into a turn with a heavy braking zone unless you’re absolutely certain that you can get in and out unscathed. So few players are conscious of good race etiquette that contrary to what you’d do in real motorsports, you’re often better off taking a passive approach to engagements and letting bad drivers/bad tunes take themselves out of contention.

The essence of a great tune for me is balance…horsepower, handling , control, and weight which means,engine/transmission, suspension, brakes, and trying to keep the car as lightweight as possible…I have switched a few cars to AWD because they did not meet my standards as far as performance for the classes they maxxed out to in the original configurations …for example , my 74 Toyota Celica GT is a AWD swap with 650 hp in class A and it is a beast…I have yet to see one that can perform like mine…it has won some online races and it has secured numerous podium finishes but my 68 Dodge Dart R/T is a rear wheel drive Class A car while most people have done V 12 and AWD swaps making the car very dominant especially in the Car Meet drag races…but those builds lack imagination and individuality in my opinion…most people can’t even control the car…struggling to keep it straight for a quarter of a mile…I like to tweak my tunes for ultimate performance but I try to keep it as realistic as possible …4 bangers and 6 cylinders in JDM’s , V8’s in muscle cars,AWD swaps only if the car is not competitive in it’s original drivetrain configuration…but as someone pointed out,there are people of various age groups playing especially online, with a lot of unnecessary and destructive behavior…many times I have used drafting and passing legitimately to place in the top 3 race positions only to be crashed into from the back…or bumped on the side while trying to maintain the best line…most of the times, these racers end up crashing into a tree or some obstacle…even losing control of their cars,too much horsepower, not enough attention given to handling and control aspects of their tunes…I still have a lot to learn about fine tuning and driving at the higher levels of competition…I am in awe of some competitors…who have mastered perfect turns even on the most difficult courses…they maintain ultimate acceleration from beginning to end…effortlessly…that is what I aspire to be…to be in the top 1000 of the world as far as race and speedtrap records…instead of the 200,000 to 400, 000 clubs statistics wise!
