Playing Groove Music Subscription Free In Froza Horizon 3
I don’t know if everyone knows about this or no one so I’ll post this guide. If you’re like me and are getting tired of the same songs on the same radio stations and would love to hear your own music while driving then this guide is for you.
Not all of this is confirmed to work 100% and could differ from console to console. I will say it’s worth a try though!
I will warn you that: - There are some skipping issues at times but it’s random
It’s not constant but it can happen and will sometimes happen for a short period of time over and over again
Try not to change radio stations as this seems to increase the skipping chance (changing radio stations changes the current song playing) - The volume fades
Certain things like crashing or other random sound effects lowers the volume (about 25~50%)
For some reason when you drive slow or stop the volume is lower but as you speed up the volume increases to a certain point. Almost like it’s giving you an incentive to drive faster
Things you’ll need:
Windows 10 (Only certain for PC users… Not sure for Xbox One users?)
Groove Music (On your Xbox for Xbox One users or on your PC for PC users)
I have only tried this on Xbox One but I’m sure it’s very similar for PC users
Step 1:
Know your email and password to your Xbox Live account. This may seem like an unnecessary step but I know plenty of people who don’t know there account credentials due to automatic sign in for years
Step 2: OneDrive
Go to OneDrive and sign in using your Xbox Live account name and password. It’s much better to use the website and not the app/program on your Windows 10 computer
There should be an already made music folder inside OneDrive. You can delete any of the folders and make your own if you wanted to. Create or use the music folder provided and put all of your music in this folder. I’d advise just putting a select few in this folder until you know it works. Wait for it to finish uploading however many songs you put in the folder (songs appear in the folder once they’re done uploading)
Step 3: Groove Music
Download (if not done already) and open Groove Music
Navigate to the left pane menu and select playlist. Create a new one (I simply named it “Horizon 3”) and once done select “add songs from my collection”. If everything has been done correctly you should see your songs. For some reason it grouped some of my songs into a folder called “unknown album”. So when I first tried this I thought only a few of my songs actually worked.
Select each song and hit the “+ Add to” button and then select your newly created playlist
Play a song or two in Groove Music just to make it works and that something hasn’t gone wrong. If there’s an exclamation mark near some or all of your songs then you’ve done something wrong and please reply below so I can help
Step 4: Horizon 3
First of all make sure you’ve unlocked the Groove Music radio station (duh)
Go to Menu>Settings>Audio> and where it says Groove Music (It may take a few second to go from grey to selectable) go left or right on that option and select the playlist you made in step 3
That’s it! If everything went right then change your radio station to Groove Music and you should hear your music. It might take a few seconds to minutes to load your playlist. If it takes more than 5~10 minutes then you encountered an error (this differs depending on how many songs you uploaded and your internet speed)
I have followed everything to the letter. I have music in OneDrive, it plays well in the Groove app (tried both PC and XB1). But when I go to Audio Settings in the game, I get an error. Says something or other could not be downloaded “at this time”. A different error - “playback error” or something - is displayed if I navigate to the Groove music radio station.
I will start off a trial of Groove Music, to see if that works. But since we have a Spotify premium family account, I won’t be staying with this beyond the trial period.
Yes, it works and you do not need a Windows 10 PC. I uploaded the tracks via onedrive website on my Imac System.
BUT and it’s a BIG BUT, almost every track sounds “damaged” similar to a scratched CD.
Sometimes the playback stops immediately and the next track begins. It’s very annoying.
I don’t know yet, if this is a home network issue or a groove music issue . I will try it again later.
PS:
The point in the initial post : “- Certain things like crashing or other random sound effects lowers the volume (about 25~50%)”.
I’m pretty sure, that this is wanted. It sounds like a sidechain compressor to me. Everytime when a loud event appears in the game, the music volume turns down. It feels more dynamic and i like it.
PS II: Sorry for maybe bad grammar (no native speaker).
It requires you to create a playlist, and even then, it sometimes does not work, the music always plays in the same order as there is no shuffle option, and it will not only skip, but sometimes it will play two songs on top of each other or jump back and forth between two songs while they are playing.
Groove in Horizon 3 is horribly broken.
Better bet is to run the groove app in the background, there are 0 issues when you do it this way. No skipping, no stuttering, nothing. The game’s code needs some serious attention.
I’ll try this later, but all I’ve done is on my Groove Music app and go back to FH3 and listen to my music that way, it can be snapped as well which is convenient to say the least.
There are some skipping issues at times but it’s random"
they really need to fix this, its extremely annoying and ruins the immersion, I have a song thats about to get to the drop and then repeats then repeats then repeats then repeats and over and over and over and it never stops until I change the song (aka switching the radio off and back to Groove lol)
If you prefer to play your own music, there is an app on xbox one called simple background music player.
Insert a usb device with your music in a folder called xbox music library. And the app will play your music in the background without the need of having it snapped.
Maybe once they fix it, they’ll add a DJ in between groove songs and randomly select songs as “skill songs”. heh. It should have been that way from the start, honestly. But considering how broken it is, (and they HAD to know how broken it is before release). It’s not a high priority for them even though they touted it a great deal before release, just like they did the “Map is twice as big!” b.s.
What’s even worse is there are so many bugs, and they are notoriously slow for sending out updates… Horizon 4 will be on the “Horizon” before half this stuff gets fixed, and the other half will never be fixed and continue to plague future games.
