11 Things Wrong With Forza Horizon 3

just wanted to know the community’s thoughts on the below. I’ll be sending it to Playground Games and Turn 10 via Twitter tooif you want to get involved.

I have been a fan of the Forza Franchise since Forza Motorsport 2 and especially the Forza Horizon series but Horizon 3 has been the most disappointing game I have ever purchased and also the most expensive with all the DLC.

  1. Drivitars

There’s too many of them and they have a mind of their own. Nothing worse than traveling at 250mph and meeting 3 drivitars using the whole road in front of you. They’re also always in the way whenever you’re trying to complete a speed zone etc.

  1. Driving in the dark

Pretty much impossible seen as the only roads that are lit up are in the small city/town areas. The headlights are so dull that you can barely see in front of you and the lights on computer controlled cars and drivitars are so dim that you crash into them all the time. This also includes driving in the daytime through the jungle sections (your lights don’t even come on). Usually when my game changes to night time I switch it off.

  1. Too much off road driving.

I think I speak for the majority of the community when I say that there’s way too much off road driving and way too many dirt roads on the map. The majority of the community seem to enjoy road driving more than off road. Nobody wants to take there Veneno down a dirt track.

  1. It Crashes! A lot!

I’ve never had a game that’s crashed more than Horizon 3 even on old consoles. It also constantly lags which has been an issue since the first Horizon.

  1. Nothing to keep me interested in races.

I’ve completed the game around 30% but already have over 250 cars, all fully tuned. I rapidly lost interest in game progression which is strange as I completed every other one 100%.

  1. Hot Wheels Expansion?

[Mod Edit - Abbreviated profanity, profanity and profanity that is disguised but still alludes to the words are not permitted - D]

  1. Generic Engine Swaps

This is more across the whole Forza Franchise but what’s with the generic engine swaps? They used to be manufacture specific up until about Forza 4 (can’t remember specifically which game they changed it) it was so much better that way.

  1. We still can’t Paint our Brake Calipers?

Why?

  1. Spoilers.

More aesthetically please spoilers that actually make a difference aerodynamics please.

  1. It rains! All the time!

I live in Scotland so the last thing I want when driving a fantasy car down a fantasy road is for it to be soaking wet. I’m pretty sure it rains more in Horizon 3 than it does in Australia.

  1. It costs too much money.

Not only the cost of the game itself but all the car packs which could have probably come with the original game and the expansions. Considering there’s a load of cars that have come out which haven’t been added I.e. Ferrari GTC4 Lusso, Ferrari 812 Superfast, McLaren 720S, McLaren 570GT, Mercedes Benz S63/65 Coupe and Saloon, Mercedes Benz E63S, Porsche 911 GT2RS, Porsche 911 GTS, Rimac Concept One, Lamborghini Huracan Performante, Lamborghini Aventador S, Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato, Newest generation BMW M3, Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, Newest generation Audi RS5, Audi RS7, Maserati Levate to name a few.

Kind Regards,

General Farbox

How much would you be willing to wager on this belief of yours?

I spent a couple of hours scanning the forums and the genral consensus was that people preferred the on road aspect of driving over the off-road aspect.

Wow… you spent a few hours on the forums and you honestly feel like you can speak for over 5 million players? That is some hubris right there.
You realize the forums are a very small, very vocal part of a MUCH larger community.

I spent a few minutes scanning Facebook, and I believe the majority of the world would agree that no one likes broccoli. Sounds pretty ridiculous right?

The game is pretty much even across road and off-road, with the career mode stuff offering a good mix of road, rally and cross country. So I have to disagree with you on this aspect. In campaign and exhibition races you also have a choice of what vehicle and race time you want to race in depending on the race selection and location. As an open world game, with the one niggling fact of the meddlesome drivatars that seem at every occasion to try and cramp your driving style, this game is pretty much balanced with the right mix of race offerings, terrain and weather. I don’t see your point at all, as I’m not that far off from calling this game almost perfect!

I don’t have time to read every single comment, topic and statement. I just read through a lot of the forum, Reddit, YouTube etc. And it seems to be a common theme that there’s too much focus on off road.

well if they don’t like the off-road aspect then they can go and play forza motorsport cant they.

If you can’t see at night (or in the jungle during the day) you may need to adjust the video settings in the game, or perhaps the settings of your actual display. In the jungle at night, the headlights create a tunnel of light through the darkness.

Boring hyper/super wedges are only fun on dirt roads. If anything, I kinda wish there were more dirt or gravel roads to drive and maybe a bit less of the fully cross country races.

The Hot Wheels expansion was more fun than Blizzard Mountain. And, hey, it’s pretty much all on roads and way brighter at night.

Since launch the game has barely ever locked up for me. And I daresay that’s a more likely “majority of players” case than the one you’ve made. But possibly only because the majority of players aren’t on PC. Those cats are pulling their own tails, though.

I finished more of FH3 than I did of FH2 or FM6. While co-op helped in that regard, even without it I’d have completed more than FH2. Neither of them paced the content as well as FH1, though.

You say you want to hear the community’s thoughts on this and then half way through your post you also say that you speak for the majority of the community?

The majority of the community doesn’t even know these forums exist, most of my what you said are things that you personally don’t like and if you had actually read through the forums you would see that there’s posts like this made all the time and guess what it’s very rare that anything is done.

YOU CAN ALL GIVE UP POSTING ABOUT PROBLEMS IN FORZA HORIZON 3 AS ITS NOT GOING TO CHANGE.

So just because they haven’t added the newest supercars and those shown on Top Gear it’s automatically a bad game?

You most certainly do not speak for the majority of the community.

Sounds like you should stick to FM 6.

I love the Off Road part of the game but even I think there should be more regular road races.

Even I agree here, theres a good balance of driving surface throughout the map but I also think there should have been more asphalt only races.

My thoughts? Don’t speak for me.

You have a point with #7 about engine swaps. On the flip side, swapping another manufacturers engine in is basic hot ridding. They aren’t generic engines either.

Drivatars? I can’t drive in real life at 250MPH without someone making a move that results in a crash. Happens. Every. Single. Time.

Leave the ugly spoilers off.

Actually very good value for how much it gets played.

Race other people or rivals. You won’t find it boring, promise.

You control the weather… and where you drive or race as well as the time of day.

There’s an entire thread on the Hot Wheels expansion. Love it or leave it. (I personally was not surprised at all with it, actually wished it to be).

Painting calipers? Really? That’s on your list of beefs. Good grief

I cannot see what 6 said but that may have been the only.one i agree

If you dont like how much it costs dont buy the dlc
They are optional
And it is no more expensive than fm6 was
And the amount of time you spend playing is good value for money compared to so much other things

How do you honestly expect these cars to already be in the game, when quite a few of them just recently came out? You expect the developers to get the licensing for these cars, scan them in the colors that evwill be in-game, along with the interior and exhaust note in such a short amount of time? I mean, that’s just you having unrealistic expectations, when it comes to something you think that you’re entitled to already have…for whatever reason. But back to these cars… On top of them JUST coming out, customer cars are just now being delivered… The 720S is a good example of that, and another would be, the GT2RS. I don’t even believe there are any customer GT2RS’s at the moment, from what it looks like, press/test cars are the only ones that have been made so far. I assume PG would’ve negotiated with Porsche, what cars were to be in the Porsche car pack, quite some time ago. Even if it were possible for the new GT2RS to be in FH3, it would’ve made zero sense anyways. Why? Because FM7 was a platform that Porsche could use to instantly gain an untold amount of press for their newest GT car, and their brand as a whole… FH3 is old news now. (You also have to realize, that the “official” launch of the GT2RS , was just recently at Goodwood FOS.)

If there’s anything wrong with the game, it’s entitled people like you. Just because you want these cars, doesn’t necessarily mean the rest of the players do.

Ok, let’s do it:

  1. That’s true, but it applies to traffic cars as well. It also seems they wanted to make your life hard when getting those 3 stars on everything, hence why Drivatars magically spawn just as you’re doing them. Also, rewind button is your friend.

  2. Doesn’t bother me. I adjusted my TV’s settings during the day. Made much difference and solved my issues with it.

  3. Offroad is one of the best parts of the game. You can use multiple classes on offroad tracks. Also, this is Australia. Offroad is a given.

  4. I agree, but that’s tech support stuff, not a feature.

  5. 250 cars, how much did you pay for them? Because 250 of lowly stuff like Camaro IROC-Z and Fiesta XR2 are completely different from 250 of Jaguar D-Type and Maserati Birdcage.

  6. Don’t like it, don’t buy it. Simple.

  7. Left out quite possibly due to licensing, which is unfortunate, as I don’t enjoy putting an LS3 into a Ford or Mopar. I mean, the Cuda could easily have had the Hellcat engine available, but somehow it didn’t.

  8. Small thing. I care much more about interior trims, which is something that existed in the ancient Test Drive Unlimited, as I drive with interior cam exclusively.

  9. The Forza spoilers actually fit a lot of cars with very good aesthetic results. This is surprising considering how many cars in the game there are.

  10. Not a problem to me. Don’t understand why you see so much rain. Also, blueprints.

  11. The problem with this game isn’t the price, it’s what you get for the price. Ultimate Edition is “ultimate” only in name, you don’t get the Expansion Pass, and the Car Pass has a lifespan of 6 months, when there’s always DLC released after that time.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say FH3 is the most disappointing game I’ve ever bought (there are MUCH worse games out there), but it definitely has some problems that are a bit baffling for such a high profile, high budget game franchise.

  1. Drivatars
Totally agree. Drivatars really ruin the free roam portion of the game with their frequent appearances (usually ramming into you) and constantly interrupt challenge zone attempts. Their numbers should definitely be greatly reduced and their driving skills greatly improved.

  2. Night Driving
I find this annoying as well, but I chalk it up to realism. You simply don’t have the same visibility at night that you do in the day. That said, we definitely should have an easy to access menu option to quickly change to a specific time of day without having to use workarounds with custom blueprints and such.

  3. Too Much Offroad
Agreed, we have too many offroad races relative to the number of asphalt races. Especially those extreme offroad events with all the crazy jumps, there’s only a small number of vehicles suited to those courses (even with full upgrades), yet those courses show up all over the map. Most of this seems to be related to fundamental map design issues where there honestly aren’t all that many interesting paved roads to race on. Hopefully we’ll get much better roads to drive on in FH4.

  4. Game Crashes
I’ve had trouble with this as well. Given that this is a relatively mature engine now, it’s a bit baffling that there’s still so many technical issues.

  5. Nothing to keep me interested in races.
Agreed, the championships keep rehashing the same relatively small number of tracks over and over again (which exacerbates the problem with the extreme offroad tracks and the general lack of quality asphalt courses) which gets dull very quickly. Combine that with the often idiotic AI behavior and many of the races really aren’t all that much fun. The most interesting part of the game for me right now is collecting cars (which I’ll likely get bored with soon given that the remaining cars are EXPENSIVE) and randomly messing around with making road cars into Mad Max style offroad machines to cope with the lack of decent pavement. I did find that blueprinting championships takes some of the tedium out since you can pick more interesting vehicles to race and skip the more annoying courses.

  6. Hot Wheels Expansion?
Yeah, I’m not impressed with this choice for the expansion either. It takes Forza too much in an arcade direction for my taste and doesn’t really fit well with the existing vehicles, I would have rather seen this done as a spinoff game and had the expansion be a place with decent driving roads (New Zealand?).

  7. Generic Engine Swaps
I would expand this to also include universal drivetrain swaps as well. We definitely need some limits on vehicle conversions. Right now for online play, pretty much everyone drops a V8/V12 and AWD into everything which ruins the unique feel of the cars. Maybe converted vehicles could be flagged as modified/custom and be in their own subclass so they could be easily excluded from races.

  8. We still can’t Paint our Brake Calipers?
This would be nice, but I wouldn’t put it on the same level as these other things.

  9. Spoilers.
Agreed, and same for front aero. I want to make a vehicle look neat and have good aero.

  10. It rains! All the time!
If you’re in Queensland, it does rain a lot. In the Outback, not so much. It would be nice if the dynamic weather system respected the part of the world you’re in and set the weather accordingly. Additionally, a menu option in freeroam to set/change the weather would be great.

  11. It costs too much money.
The base game itself actually is reasonably priced considering the amount of content (especially with the sales we’ve had). However, I agree that the car packs are way overpriced and the price to buy everything in the game is ridiculous, especially since the “Ultimate” edition doesn’t actually include everything.

Now for a few of my own issues with the game:

  1. Racer AI
Once you get above New Racer, the AI becomes extremely unpredictable and often cheaty. On some races/courses the AI act like complete idiots and struggle to keep up with the player even if they have an uncompetitive car. In other events at the same difficulty, a few racers at the front of the pack will drive like you’ve set the difficulty to Unbeatable. Their cars have magical handling around corners and can power through water that bogs the player down with no penalty, can phase through trees/obstacles if the player isn’t right next to them, and if they get too far behind the game will teleport them closer to you. Not Cool.

Also, the auto PI match is annoying. I liked how FH1 did this much better where you had a tuning target for the event and maximized your vehicle to that target rather than having the AI randomly pick cars a little faster and slower than the player. It’s not as bad as FH2 was, but there’s still been a few events where AI racers had cars with PIs 50 points higher than mine.

  1. Broken PI System
The car rating system puts far, far too much weight on handling, especially for a game that doesn’t really have any technical roads to begin with. This means that all the competitive tunes are basically drag cars with tons of power and just barely enough handling to get around corners. For many cars, simply putting racing tires on them will bump them from a C or B straight to S without actually making them appreciably faster.

  2. Auction House
This is one of the more unfriendly AH implementations I’ve seen. In the Auction House, you can’t check the value of the vehicle in question in the AH and have to constantly switch back and forth to the Autoshow (or other sources for cars that can’t be purchased there). Additionally, a search can’t be pinned, so you have to manually enter the search parameters every time to see a list of cars. This is a real pain when trying to watch the prices for multiple cars at a time. Some historical auction data would be really nice as well to get an idea of what the cars have been selling for recently without having to manually watch and try to guess. Also, the requirement to be in a hub to manage auctions is ridiculous. If you’re in an event and someone outbids you, you have to hope you finish the event in time to raise your bid (or quit the event). Some sort of auto bid and reserve functionality for the AH would be really nice as well.

  3. No Ability to Test Drive a Vehicle before Buying
This one always annoys me. I’ve bought several cars that were supposed to be good, only to find out that their handling really didn’t work well for me. Now that I’m collecting cars this isn’t that big of a deal, but I would really like to be able to test out a vehicle to see if it’s worth prioritizing to save for.

  4. No Test Track for Vehicle Tunes
Due to the extremely annoying drivatar behavior and lack of decent roads, there isn’t really anywhere to properly test road vehicles. For offroad, you can go to the middle of the Outback (one of the few places free of drivatars), but otherwise you’re fighting traffic and insane maniac drivatars. Not to mention all the time wasted with scene transitions jumping in and out of the tuning screen at a hub, driving around for a few minutes, and back in to tune. What we really need is a Test Track with an integrated tuning menu that lets you tune the vehicle immediately without reloading the scene.

Anyways, best of luck getting though to the devs so they can hopefully address some of these issues in the next game.

I don’t agree with everything but here is my own small list of frustrations:

  • Better online rotation of races (always playing the same ones even though i race in more than 1 class). For example i like the sprint race starting near the Twelve Apostels going near the beach working towards the jungle, i like that sprint race because its fast and has nice flowing corners but in all my time i enjoyed online i have seen this sprint race maybe 2 or 3 times in an XP championship.
  • Punish wallriding, slow them down hard so its not as advantageous as it is now.
  • Get some kind of ELO system where rammers get their own lobby with racers when trying to look for online lobbies.
  • Town down some weather presets please, i love the rain and you guys trying to show it off but for the love of me mums, why does almost every race has it?
  • Please please please add a leave lobby button after an XP championship has ended so i don’t have to wait 3 minutes before i can go back to singleplayer or desktop (yes ALT+F4 is nice, but i dont always want to stop playing).

I could go on but i think the most complaints are like you said pretty mainstream, like lack of upgrades per car (not the same spoiler+front lip for every vehicle), the weird PI system and basic online play or lack there of.

Last but not least, i don’t think things need to be removed, maybe balancing it is a more better option. I actually like racing offroad in FH3 and i am sure more people like it. Removing it would suck, better would be to tone it down a bit considering the majority probably likes road races.
