WiR - Livery Import details

From today’s Week In Review -

"Livery Import Details
As most of you know, Forza Motorsport 6 will let painters and tuners import their creations from Forza Motorsport 5 and Forza Horizon 2 into the game, giving them a great head start on sharing their work with the community as soon as the game launches. Here, I want to go into a bit more detail about how the import process work, as well as let you know about some caveats to be aware of when bringing your work over into Forza 6.

Importing your tunes and paints into Forza 6 is a simple process. When you check out the “My Paint” menu from the Forza 6 main menu, you will have the choice to synch your original creations from both Forza Motorsport 5 and Forza Horizon 2. Once the synch happens, you can then individually import files to Forza 6 with a click of the button. Please note that the initial synch can take some time, especially if have a lot of creations in FH2 and FM5.

The process for bringing whole car designs over is similar. To import your complete car designs, go to the “Paint Car” menu item and then select “My Designs.” From there you’ll be able to import your original creations from Forza Horizon 2 and Forza Motorsport 5 by clicking on the design and importing it. When you import a design file, you can choose to give it a description and share it immediately as you can with designs you create in Forza 6. In addition, your creation will be unlocked and you can continue to make changes on your cars as you see fit.

While the vast majority of designs should transfer over with no issues, I wanted to make sure that the community was aware of some exceptions to this rule. Liveries from Forza Motorsport 5 or Forza Horizon 2 that include certain manufacturer decals will be prevented from being imported into Forza Motorsport 6. I’ve outlined the list of decals in each game below:

Forza Horizon 2 Decals
Local Motors
Forza Horizon
Forza Horizon 2
Playground Games
Horizon Festival
Horizon Bass Arena Radio
Horizon Pulse Radio
Horizon XS Radio
Levante FM Radio
Robby Gordon

Forza Motorsport 5 Decals
Rolls-Royce
Hot Wheels
Hot Wheels (reverse)
Savage Rivale
Local Motors
Ram
Caparo
SRT
Robby Gordon
Auto Union

For example, if you have a Forza Horizon 2 livery that features the “Levante FM Radio” decal, you will not be able to import that file into Forza Motorsport 6. That said, you can still go back and make adjustments to liveries in FH2 or FM5, to make them eligible for import into FM6. Also, please note that many of the above logos can still be found in Forza Motorsport 6 (such as the Hot Wheels logos, for example); for technical reasons, however, they cannot be imported over."

Good information to know Hiero, I think I’m good with the few designs I’ve managed to create in the short time I’ve had an XBone.

Thank you kind sir. Was biting a few nails on how to do this, so big thanks.

As I understand it from what Ayo Jube was saying in last week’s ForzaFriday Twitch thing, the import process is not a one time thing, you can do it whenever you like so that’s nice as well.

This is very cool to know since I’m never in twitch

Brilliantly detailed explanation… Thanks for clerifying that.
After a 3 year stint I’ve decided to get my brushes back out ready for FM6… The idea that I can import whole Car designs over has further pushed my obsession.
Massive thanks to Ayo Jube for explaining details to me further yesterday night.
Roll on September the 10th

For Forza 5, I found these manufacter decals with no cars in the game.

I don’t recall any Savage Rivale or Caparo cars in any of the Forza games. There is a Ram in Horizon 2, and the Auto Union car is classified as an Audi. I wonder if they could be found in the code or something.

Hm. Things are getting curioser and curioser.

Additionally, Dan confirmed on Twitter that importing of files is a one-way system; you cannot export your newly created Forza Motorsport 6 content back to Forza 5 or Horizon 2.

Just noticed Savage Rivale and Caparo as well. Looks like cars in a future DLC.

And September 1st is right around the corner, perfect timing!

This is great news!

Ok a few questions on the import…

I take it importing vinyl groups would be similar to either FM3 to FM4 or FM4 to FH1. I did prefer the way FH1 used the vinyl groups from FM4 by linking the file rather than doing a full import. Either way is fine, happy to have all the work carried over.

Transferring a full livery seems pretty straight forward. The Abarth 500 from FM5 and FH2 is the same in FM6 so my liveries should hopefully transfer over with little to no issues.

What about cars that did not make the cut? The #4 Corvette Racing ZR1 has been replaced with the #3 Corvette Racing Corvette C7.R so no #4 ZR1 in FM6. What happens to those liveries? No transfer? Should we start saving the livery as vinyl groups to use on the replacement car?

Also we had the #10 Holden XBox Commodore in FM5 and this has been replaced with 4 versions of the same car (RedBull, HRT, STIX and Freightliner). What happens to liveries made on the #10 Holden? I am hoping that one of the other Holden V8’s can be selected but I feel that this one might also need to be saved as vinyl groups…

What about other cars that differ in their description. The V12 Zagato in FM5 says 2011 while the one in FM6 says 2012. Will this affect the transfer of the liveries?

Even if they’re considered different cars and we can’t transfer the entire livery, just go into the livery from the old games and save the entire front, back, top and sides as single vinyl groups … import the groups and re-apply to the car in FM6. At most you’re looking at importing 6 vinyls to complete the car that way.

You can import whenever you want, you can import after your first initial import any time.

Here’s a question, when transferring, can standard vinyl shapes come too?

That’s poor wording - an example of what I mean. For my Dubai number plates on FH2, I use “Upper Case letters 11”, or something to that effect. If I put all those to a vinyl group A-Z and 0-9, will I be able to use them, or will the compatibility be an issue?

I apologise for the poor wording, lol

I am making the assumption that all the basic vinyl shapes, gradients, letters, numbers, etc. will be exactly the same as they were in the FM5 and FH2 paint shops. So there should not be any compatibility issue.

LOL … your post almost got me off on a tangent about how Forza games render fonts and letters … which is ridiculously inefficient. I mean, the XB1 is a computer … why wouldn’t it render fonts/letters like almost any other computer on the planet???

Hi guys
What about sharing liveries, sharing vynils? Things great like unlocking vinyls, Sale livery ? Do you have info ?

I know this is an old thread but my game isn’t letting import a lot of liveries as well as a lot of vinyl groups. Do they not let you import stuff you had used from another user from the market place? Also I am missing a lot of classic imsa ford designs that I did make myself
