Will Top Gear debacle affect FM6?

If there’s proof of that then ok, but until something is officially said otherwise then I see no reason as to why the TG track cannot be in the game.

Public relations is a rather curious profession. Whenever one company, organization, or individual changes the façade of their professional image–inadvertently or otherwise–it is interesting to see how that brand’s partnerships and professional relationships subsequently change. Unfortunately, Top Gear UK is in an indefinite holding pattern as the result of a rather controversial matter. In turn, however you, as a consumer, sees the situation really is irrelevant to the image that Microsoft Studios and Turn 10 Studios are trying to maintain. That is after all, the job of the public relations experts.

Now, this is isn’t to say the Top Gear brand is infected in any shape or form, but that partners are very likely to remove themselves from the picture until the air has cleared. More often than not, these responses are just an extra PR safety measure to ensure there is no “spill over” onto one’s own brand (it’s amazing how much muck will be raked up as a result of this incident). Still, I don’t see Microsoft Studios taking a risk in having anything on its famed racing game (a franchise now 10 years in the making) just to include a facility synonymous with the show.

But, if you are looking for proof, that I cannot offer. Heck, much of this newly created forum is filled to the brim with wishes and conjecture. If you are wanting all discussions in this section to be based on proof, it might be better to sit it out for another 2 months or so.

Ha, I’ve been on these forums 6 years, I know all too well about how much people rely on rumours and hope on here!

I’m not arguing with your points nor am I saying you’re wrong, I understand how the whole current negative image surrounding TG might deter Microsoft from wanting to continue the partnership but by the time the game has released that should have all blown over, so it’s not a total write-off. Just don’t want to rule anything out at this stage, also kind hoping the TG partnership stays because I bloody love the track.

What they need to do is have a Beat the Driver Rivals with Sabine!

Yes I second that. I loved the rivals events against real pros they need to bring that back.

The inclusion of top gear in forza wasnt great. The best part was the pre career mode intro. Actually, that was the best part of career mode now that Im thinking of it.

I think I could live without a cool intro.

Whilst it’s too early to guess at the impact the sacking of JC will have on the Top Gear brand I would agree with Shadow. Top Gear in its own right would attract no more interest than any average consumer show. It’s the presenters that popularised the programme and without them there really won’t be much to market. I can’t see any organisation continuing a relationship with the BBC and those that are parachuted in to replace Clarkson, Hammond and May.

Hmm, excellent writing ( admittedly much by Clarkson, but there are other writers in the world), excellent production staff, cold cuts aside, amazingly beautiful photography/filmography ( very under rated on this show) and an excellent facility to play with the worlds best toys.

Now I like the three Stooges as much as anyone, but there has to be talent elsewhere that can stand on it’s own. The biggest hurdle will be they aren’t the same talent, not better or worse, just not the same. I truly hope they can keep the other two and add someone in, someone with a larger than life personality, but I’m not optimistic at this point.

I haven’t see word one from T-10 that Top gear was even intended to be in 6, so it’s all conjecture. But having said that, it’s certainly easier for them to back out or not include them this time around.

I agree 100%. Those three guys, along with their pet racecar driver, WERE THE SHOW.

Let’s say they reboot the show with 3 new top-notch, likable, good hosts. Same format, same time slot, same damn set even, it just wouldn’t feel the same. Even Stig would be different without Jezza’s intro and lap commentary.

You can’t simply round up some guitar players (even really good ones) and call it “Whitesnake” now, can ya.

This kind of scenario would only be possible if Turn 10 cut ties with Top Gear all together. I don’t imagine Top Gear would want to have their brand in the game knowing that its three former hosts are also in the game as well. However, no Top Gear branding but more content featuring Clarkson, Hammond, and May is something I would be ok with.

PTG Claret, I think you are thinking out of context here. Remember we are speaking in the situation that Clarkson, Hammond, and May are NOT Top Gear UK hosts anymore. So you wouldn’t be replacing them for the Top Gear USA hosts you’d be replacing whoever else the BBC decided to host Top Gear UK.

I’d much rather have the Top Gear USA hosts over whoever BBC picks to host in a rush to find replacements. In fact if Turn 10 decides they want to keep the Top Gear element, the easiest thing for them to do would be to go this route and have Tanner Foust, Rutledge Wood, and Adam Ferrara fill in.

I guess we won’t really know what the plan is until we get closer to the game’s release. However, unless we hear something before then, this will definitely be something that MotorworldHype asks about at E3 this year.

It wouldn’t work with the U.S. hosts. Top Gear UK was sold (syndicated) all over the world and Clarkson, Hammond and May are known to a global market. Top Gear US is essentially a local show. We don’t even know who these guys are here in the UK let alone people living in Europe, Asia, Middle East, Far East, Austral Asia etc

I partially disagree. While Rutledge and Adam may be relatively unknown to a world wide audience, Tanner Foust has been used in world wide marketing for Forza Motorsport. Also I think they actually show Top Gear USA in other countries besides, well, the USA.

I’m not seeing the it… While Tanner is known to a limited degree outside of the US, and I stress “limited”… His voice is undistinguished and common sounding. It’s not a known “voice”. No one would know, if they weren’t told, that he was the one speaking in the game. He’s also has a somewhat dry and stodgy personality. I don’t think he’s a good choice. I mean, if Jeremy Clarkson could be viewed as unnecessary doing voice over in the intro of the game, Tanner Foust is superfluous to the extreme. An unnecessary expense that adds no value. Now, I do like having his car is FH2

People like Foust for his driving.

People like clarkson May and Hammond for their accents, and their vocal style.

Theres a reason Top Gear UK is shown worldwide, and the others aren’t.

Personally, wether T10 get Clarkson and the other two or not, I’d prefer no link to the program what so ever. I see absolutely no benefit. The track is stupid for racing on - it seems to promote wrecking.

If a track is poor for circuit racing you leave it out of the circuit hoppers, you don’t just leave it out of the motorsport game. Top Gear never featured it as a circuit racing track. “I see absolutely no benefit” ignores its long running basis for high level benchmarking and certainly appeals to many players for that reason.

Except T10 not only have it in the hoppers, they very often give us the choice of this track and…this track.

As someone who uses Forza Motorsport for actually racing cars, I, me, myself, personally see no benefit to the track. At all.
I’m yet to see it crop up on the track list of any league.

And wether the track provides a high level of benchmarking is purely down to opinion. It provides a TV show with a level playing field to thrash cars around. It’s missing many aspects of other high level test tracks, such as Ehea-Lessien, Milbrook, and Fiorano.

Ironically, you do if you are someone whose biggest complaint about the previous title was the lack of content and, at the same time, you personally find no use in other forms of content and so suggest it get the boot.

Oooh … I see what I did there.

The first statement is almost contradictory. If it’s poor for circuit racing, then why have it in a title which is primarily based on it? Also, while the Stig and the test track segment was a highly entertaining portion of the show, it is far from what I would consider “high level benchmarking”.

Because this game isn’t a circuit racing game. At one time it was but now the term motorsport in the title has a very broad meaning.

This is a game about cars and pretty graphics and that you’re supposed to collect cars and appreciate them. However in game there’s really good physics and almost no emphasis on car collecting. There’s a career mode that seems more motorsport based at times but overall there’s really no point in completing it. The career doesn’t make you appreciate anything and doesn’t give you any motorsport feel (unless 2-3 lap sprints are your thing). Oh and then there’s top gear just thrown in.

The game has an identity crisis and doesn’t know what it wants to be.

Therefore top gear and it’s epic track variations should be included! Its somewhat motorsport related and has had pretty cars driven on it. Therefore its perfect for a game with an identity disorder.

I know there are circuit racers who wouldn’t care if drag racing, drifting, autocross, and hot-lapping were dropped, but those are all aspects of motorsport which draw a larger player base to the game (which should appeal to everyone as a way to fund more content). “Primarily” does not mean “Exclusively.”

The Stig wasn’t a Motor Week driver running some cone drills. How is that not high-level? Do you know of many other professional race car drivers who have run multiple passes of dozens of cars on the same track to determine how their lap times compare?

Most importantly, Top Gear has a notable history in car culture. Fans come to car games because of what they see on tv and want to replicate it. To want to drop something like that from the game because it’s not the right fit in one corner of multiplayer racing would just be silly. To want to drop anything from the game after seeing the reaction to FM5 is just nuts.
