Why do you play FH5?

You sure do say some bizarre stuff Aqua.

Well I’m also a scientist. We don’t just play games.

I live in a very mixed driving ability household and FH has always been the one game that everyone has found some bit of that they are ‘best’ at. One of us does ‘proper’ sim racing and so is our trial and seasonals champ. Another likes the fiddling about of the PR stunts. Nobody likes Playground Games or Eliminator so they are a bit of a coin toss.

It seems to be rare to find a good couch co-op game these days so the weekly playlist in FH4 was appointment gaming and something for us all to look forward to doing together and FH5 was ordered on the expectation that we could continue on.

We’re hanging on in there with 5 - with the expanded playlist it has great potential to again be that thing we all enjoy but with it being so broken the weekly get togethers might die a death which would be a shame.

I definitely feel I’m an oddity here. I like driving stock cars in solo. Forza games are typically beautiful. I’m also a big fan of how the cars feel on the roads. I love that I can feel the individual character of each car. I will typically put about 2000 miles on a car stock racing in solo races. Then I will just tune it up to the top of its class based on what I learned about its strengths/weaknesses. I have absolutely no real interest in the online aspects. I deal with people all day in my real world. My entertainment time in the evening is just for me. You may now be able to see that while the state of the game, developer attitude etc, really really bother me, at least I can still mostly find my zen doing what I want to do.

Not quite alone. I keep my cars completely stock with factory paint colors. I also prefer playing solo, but solo isn’t really that fun anymore in Horizon games. The campaigns are way too short, the AI is way more A than I, and the replayability is fairly non-existent expect for the Festival Playlist that is a chore at best and deceitful and broken at worst.

My ideal racing game is as follows.

Unlimited gas, can turn damage and wear off, but otherwise as close to simulation as possible. Open world, as large a car list as possible, with a ton of flexibility for building cars how you want.

There’s a lot more if I get into the details, but that’s the basic idea of what I want most in my racing games.

Forza Horizon is pretty darn close, and it’s the best option I got. The last racing game I liked before Forza Horizon was Need for Speed Underground 2.

I’m a bit more into racing games these days then I was before Forza Horizon pulled me back into the fold, but pure simulation racing is too stale and restrictive more my tastes. One thing I always have to give Forza Horizon credit for is the freedom. Too go from racing hypercars to jumping off clips in big offroaders to getting into an intense race of dinky three wheelers seamlessly, with the only menu being a car select screen, and have it all be the players choice what to do, that’s an incredible car game.

Pure sims have their appeal, but they always inevitably railroad you in some way, whether it’s through car selection or track selection, and not having that open world between racing to just drive for no reason other than the sheer joy of it really sucks a lot of life out of the driving experience for me.

Mainly because it’s fun.

I’ve already loved racing games but for me, a lot of them are super grindy now, especially career modes where as you progress, you get more races which then get more laps and there seems like little variety.

But getting that racing fix and also being able to do jumps, smash stuff, drift etc. What’s there not to like?

Because I paid for it

Pretty much. I mean if we were talking about a game that has a reasonable pricetag, i could even bother to avoid playing more than once a week. lol.

Sadly everytime i play, i get frustration after frustration lol. I basically paid for it . . .

Horizon 5 is my go to relaxing and chill game, I don’t really do races and almost never do any online activities, but I can spend hours getting lost just cruising the map by myself.

Photo mode was also a big reason for me until it was broken recently.
The graphics in this game is so incredibly nice I can waste away hours in one spot trying to get the perfect shot on some of my favorite cars
(Praying photo mode gets fixed in an upcoming patch)

I don’t quite understand people who cruise the map hours on end. The map isn’t that big all things considered. Getting lost in Test Drive Unlimited’s map, on the other hand, I can see spending hours driving around that.

Test Drive is just a big map. With handling like that how can you enjoy driving? Plus some roads feels like driving on a rollercoaster. I rather play Fuell if I want just a big map.

Horizon 5 on the other hand has the best non sim handling of every Horizon, or any other game imo. That is the main reason why I play FH5. Plus playing Eliminator on a new map is much more entertaining and I just love the new areas for PGG.

i don’t play it so much anymore, but when i did it was to complete my car collection. ever since forza motorsport 2 I have tried my best to own and drive every car those games have. unfortunately when they introduced unicorns in motorsport it became much harder, and in FH4 i couldnt get all the cars either, but its still fun trying.

Because I’ve thought that they’ve learned from the mistakes of FH4.

They cheated on me. No clear communication in advance, multiplayer was trimmed so hard, bugs that were not fixed in the fourth part… But, I understood. I was hoping that PG would create something legendary with FH5. Managed! No other team has screwed me as much as you, pathetic for an xbox studio

I play it mostly because its really the only great racer on the market, and even then, it fails at a lot of things that the competition exceeds at. However, in turn, Forza succeeds where the competition fails. In the end though, I play because I like the cars, I like the open world, and I tolerate the AI (when its not broken) enough to like the racing.

Well said

I can pretend to drive cars I like and can’t afford. I can get nostalgic about my old E30 325i I had before it died by playing around with the 1991 M3. Pretend to be a rally driver. Stubbornly practicing courses to beat the stupid AI at harder levels because I do like the challenge despite it being frustrating. The thrill you get when your stubbornness pays off and you get better at handling higher PI cars and harder AI.

I play the game mainly to try out cars on the road, do drag racing . I prefer stock cars and i don’t tune the cars to the extreme, like i’ve seen today, an F40 AWD with 1000 hp trying to drag race my Manhart Urus 700 HP…no realistic whats so ever.i prefer to tune them acording to their real counterparts…and also drag race realisticaly

It all started years ago with Test Drive Unlimited!! and it’s been down hill ever since Horizon 3!!

Because I can. Mainly to goof around and do whatever. I do lots of liveries and tunes. I like trying out all of the vehicles to see how good I can make them. I do online road races using vehicles nobody else would ever use. I win a lot of the races. Must make other players scratch their head.
