So I see plenty of liveries with the manufacturers logos all over them but when i went to make my own I was told the very same logos are locked and i cant share my skin

Did you make the logos yourself? You can’t upload a design, which includes locked elements (i,e, downloaded vinyls).
What i dont understand is why these logos are locked but the ones on the liveries I download are not, even though they are the same?
Because people copy logos all the time by drawing them from scratch. An easy way to draw a logo is to draw over the same logo.
Are you saying you can edit designs that you have downloaded? You shouldn’t be able to. The whole design you download should be locked.
It basically works like this, if you paint everything on the car (including any logo’s) yourself - you can then share that design to the game.
If say you download a porsche logo that someone else has shared and then use that as a template to create your own - then use that new logo you have created as part of your overall design you could share the design as you have made all the bits.
Logos are logos it’s pretty hard to tell the difference between them, if they have been done reasonably well. Just because someone has shared a design with a Porsche logo on it, doesn’t mean that’s the same Porsche logo you have downloaded. If you’re downloading the logo from the same artist that you downloaded the design from - all that is telling you is that they have shared the design but to maximise their earnings/ downloads they have also shared the individual logos. That enables players to download the logo’s to use on their own personal race car or design but they still can’t share that final design unless they go to the trouble of re-creating the logos themselves.
Yes you have to draw everything yourself from scratch. You seem to be using shared vinyl groups. You can’t upload other people’s work.
I kind of wish you could, and they would get some money for any downloads, + be mentioned in some kind of way to credit them. I’m no painting god, and rely heavily on premade vinyls, but I’m still pretty proud of some of the stuff I’ve made. I’ve even had friends on more than a few occasions ask for me to upload paintjobs but alas, it’s not all mine. I know I can still work round that using the auction house, but that seems like a worse solution, especially for the creators of these vinyls.

You can share if you make all of your own logos or use the brand logo options. Once you add a downloaded vinyl from another player that design is locked even if you remove the downloaded vinyl group.
Other designers make their own or are using the brand logos. Is that what you are asking?

No - I downloaded them - no you won’t be able to share the design.
If this isn’t clear yet - you may have to explain in some more detail exactly what is happening when you try to share the design. Sometimes the word filter can be a problem (for reasons beyond me at times).
Just saying no isn’t going to necessarily get to the bottom of your issue.

I suspect there are reasons behind this but have no insider knowledge. I do think this may be why the uses of vinyl groups doesn’t work in game though.
Say someone had multiple gamertags and shared a number of 1 layer vinyl groups - then added those to a car on another GT - went driving around in that car stuffed with all their 1 layer, layer groups - they could game the game to receive a significant amount of credits on all their other GT’s.
It’s one of those things that if this is correct, will have been implemented to stop the few but affects the many.
It’s the only thing I can think of beyond dev oversight, why this feature wouldn’t work - weird that they include accolades related to it -as that suggests it should work. But it wouldn’t be the first slightly odd decision in game - may just be different parts of the team on different pages/ lack of communication between teams. I’m sure this won’t have been helped by the work from home etc circumstances of the development cycle.
