Even if they are working on some sort of Rally Expansion they will not say. Whatever expansions there may be will be announced either the day or week before they are out as usual. There really is no point in asking Turn 10 about this kind of stuff. You will never get an answer and none of us know.
The offroad vehicles are definitely strange. But I thought that they were included was more strange than that rally stages were not. But from everything I’ve read on other threads, including them was a simple matter of porting vehicle they already had coded to raise available car count. While some dirt tracks would be cool to go with the offroad vehicle, I’d rather stick to dedicated rally games like Dirt for that kind of racing.
This isn’t a rally game. I can’t imagine there will be a rally expansion in this title, that is more of a Forza Horizon thing, although they haven’t done it propely since Forza Horizon 1.
If they did add an expansion I couldn’t imagine it being very good, typically rally add ons to nomal racers are quite poor compared to dedicated rally games.
eg Gran Turismo and Project Cars rally is rubbish compared to DIRT
Yes it’s odd having so many offroad cars in this game, but I’d rather have them than not as it gives more choice, the cars were developed for Horizon anyway so they may aswell include them here.
There are many rally cars that work fine on a circuit, eg Subaru Impreza, Mitsubushi Evo.
I still agree with this. While rally is definitely motorsports (one of my favorite forms of racing, actually), the racing physics itself is entirely different. Forza 7 is more than huge enough without adding a completely different racing style; it would just compound an already massive game. As stated, they’re usually not that good, either. I’d rather Play DiRT when I want to do that kind of racing. Like I said though, it would be cool to have some dirt tracks for the offroad vehicles, or jumps for the trophy trucks like when they race on the pavement tracks IRL
Why would you say Forza Motorsport 7 is not a rally game? Forza Horizon 3 wasn’t a Hotwheels game, until the Hotwheels expansion was released. Rallying and rallycross is motorsport, so why would a Rally(cross) expansion be weird?
^Right. And to add on, I hate how everyone just pushes rally to the horizon series. Like what’s the point then? Driving quick on dirt is a masterful art in itself. But instead, everyone just relegates it to a series that DEFINES the lack of driving skill, discipline and control.
I said it is more of a Horizon thing because large parts of the game involve racing on dirt tracks and through fields plus they have already had a rally expansion in FH1, it is more suited to that game.
It is the logicial choice for them to do rally in those games compared to Forza Motorsport which is more to do with Touring cars and GT Racing. Obviously they have added F1 and NASCAR over the years but these fit within the games tarmac circuit based nature. I’m just saying it makes more sense to put it in Forza Horizon which has races that in more in line with how Rally driving works. I want Forza Motorsport and Forza Horizon to remain separate games, but doing things like adding Rally to the Motorsport series would just bring them closer together which is not good.
I don’t agree that the games is defined by lack of skill. It is arcadey but you still have control and requires skill to be competitive. In fact I think Forza Horizon 3 has the perfect balance or 'realistic physics" and actual fun, so much so that it is probably my favourite racing game of all time. I am a huge fan of hardore realistic sims like AC and PC2 aswell they just aren’t as fun as Horizon games.
Gran Turismo has had rally since Gran Turismo 2 - 6 years before the first Forza Motorsport was made.
Why would they suddenly feel they need to level the playing ground now.
I would prefer they just made a separate rally game or have it as part Forza Horizon than them adding it into Forza Motorsport.
Really, lack of skill,i guess you never bought the rally add on for Horizon 1!!! Some people were complaing how hard it was on easy difficulty to beat rally!! It was not just point and shoot with the car, skill was needed!!
You can’t deny that the Horizon series was made for a more casual playerbase, built with physics that encourage unrealistic driving. What I mean about Rally as a discipline being underhanded to Horizon (pause-break) is that it would be better if it was done in a game that’s built closer to the confines of realistic driving.
Take for example, the difficulty of driving down red rock mountain in FH1, and now compare it to doing 4:35s in B class down Fujimi Kaido in Forza 4. The former delivers a fun experience that aims to entertain. The latter will A) weed out those who lack skill or patience or both. B) immerse those that have the desire to drive properly with a wholesome challenge. Racing in Assetto Corsa would then be the next step.
You see what I mean? Horizon is good for fun but it does not deliver the immersion necessary for serious competition. I can drive for 6 hours straight in assetto corsa till my clutch leg goes numb. Horizon? Don’t make me laugh.
Rally and circuit racing are both racing disciplines. You take out the discipline, you’re no longer racing. You’re hooning.
I can’t see how rally could be incorporated successfully.
This has nothing to do with physics or surface (tarmac, sand, gravel etc) but the differences in the racing disciplines. Rally is point to point, not circuit and it isn’t competitive racing, its a series of solo time trials. If you think about the entire structure of FM its built around circuit racing with a grid of cars. I’m not against rally but asking for it is like asking Dirt to include an F1 championship.
They have almost a full grid of Rallycross cars available in the game, not having a rallycross mode or rally tracks available since day 1 is not only a missed opportunity for forza, it’s ridiculous.
Would be nice they dont even need to bother about point to point or actuall rally style of tracks but just strait out dirt track racing with all the mud, dirt, sand and gravel with a few bumps and humps on the track for air. Imagine doing the Nervbergring if it was a dirt track now that would be fun and competive racing. as well as making one clentch up from time to time.
