Wheels - Steering wheel input is lost on a turn or when break or throttle is applied (1792743)

When the FFB becomes stronger due to a curb or slip, steering input is lost for a while. A large movement of the steering wheel will restore it.

This problem seems to be caused by the mouse moving due to the FFB vibration of the wheel, and the wheel input is lost to it.
Why does this happen?
Likewise, the same wheel input is lost with the shifter input.

I have the exact same problem with my CSL DD Pro/SQ v1.5, which works perfectly on every other racing game/sim that I have.

When the problem occurs the animated steering wheel (and vehicle) in-game stays dead straight for a few seconds no matter what steering input is applied.
Obviously this makes the vehicle undriveable.

UPDATE: After todays update and further testing this problem only occurs after upshifting using my external shifter.
This issue occurs whether using H-pattern or sequential, with or without clutch.
It’s a Fanatec SQ v1.5 shifter connected via the wheel base.
When using shift paddles on the wheel the issue is not present.

All the latest drivers and Fanatec software have been freshly re-installed and verified.
This set up works perfectly in Forza Horizon 5 and all other games/sims I own.

During cup race on the same turn lap after lap my wheel stops working. I would crash in wall,
And wheel resumes working.
Is this a glitch? Or wheel issue
Any fixes

i only had this happen to me once where i was on a last lap and the wheel didnt turn (in cockpit view) and controller was responsive but wheel didnt move at all. now it just happens at beginning of a race at the starting line. i have not figured out a fix.

After the last update the ffb is off, feels sharp and it feels like the cars have square tyres.
The ffb was the only good thing about the game :pensive:
The new Ginetta is almost undriveble for me and the new Acura is not much better!

Interesting, this kind of happened to me yesterday. I was just having fun in a practise sessions with some friends. Suddenly my wheel and pedals completely stopped working in game. Couldn’t manage to get it working without a restart.

Had this happen a couple of times when on long sweeping turns with the car tyres on the edge of grip. The wheel becomes unresponsive and the throttle pedal sticks at constant engine revs.

Have to restart game to fix.

I have same pedals but t300rs wheel base w f1 wheel. Also noticed everytime i enter game i have select my control setup again

Same issue. When the tires loose grip - the steering wheel goes straight and I have to shake my wheel to get it back.
Clubsport 2.5

thats another bug, please vote here:

I had the wheel stops working issue after a rewind.

Probably your PC turning off USB devices. Definitely on your end, not the game

TinFoilScience beside - its not the case coz Controller, Mouse, Keyboard and all the other devices still work uninterrupted…

Really frustrated here. I bought Forza Motorsports and found it unplayable on my PC rig (DOF reality motion based system) with Thrustmaster 300RS wheel. The issue for me was kind of similar to what’s being discussed in this thread but a bit different. For me, the steering input will freeze (not work) sometimes when braking. Once it does this, the steering input will remain frozen until I release the brake pedal, then I can steer. If I hit the brakes again, many times it will lock back up until I release the brakes again, allowing me to steer again. Trying to tap dance my way around corners (braking, steering, braking steering) is no way to race. I figured it was my Thrustmaster wheel giving me issues so I purchased a new Fanatec DD2 base and GT wheel system. Got it today and guess what. The dang game does the same exact thing. It’s the game, not the wheel. As far as my settings, I have everything as “simmed” out as possible with no nannies, no help, just as simulator style as much as possible. Does anyone have any clue what I can do to fix this?

On a side note. I can’t believe they charge $70 for this game. It’s not what I expected as the physics are not that great but it has a 2023 Z06 in it so I had to try it to see how realistic it was.

It switches between inputs. In theory u can switch from controller to wheel to keyboard on the fly without changing something. Was not an bad idea but they never rly fixed the problems

I forgot to mention that it does this when pressing the throttle too sometimes. If I am coming out of a corner and throttle down, the steering will freeze in the current position and not give me control back until I release the throttle. It’s completely random. Sometimes it does this and sometimes it behaves just fine. Really ridiculous they release a game with this type of bug in it. I have no idea how to get around it.

Same issue here,

Logictech DD pro wheel on xbox series X

Wheel loses connection either cornering or when you pass a lap sector.
Seems to happen more often when there are alot of FFB effects happening at once (ripple curbs, wheel FFB, understeer FFB, collision)
Which makes online racing impossoble

Only thing i found that reduces “some” of the disconnections is turning down the vibration scale in advanced wheel settings. (I had it set at 150, turned it down to 100)

(Side note, issue doesnt seem related to true force)

Interestingly i left the vibration scale at 150 and turned down the FFB on the wheel, (11nm to 8nm) it doesnt reduced the disconnections. So i ruled out a wheel issue. Seems to be an FFB effect sent from the game is crashing the wheel.

I have go pro footage of this issue happening in real time, ill try and upload it somewhere.

Here is a slightly longer video with a similar issue

Oh wow. No mine doesn’t lockup the game like that. Mine runs the game normally without any frame rate loss, the ONLY thing I can’t do is steer. I can move my wheel of course but the game does not take any input from the steering wheel UNTIL I release either the brake or the gas, whichever is pressed. It is completely random and can do this in the corners or even straights.

Interesting. Ive notcied that too. Seems to happen alot on a main straght as i pass the lap line.

I have to let go of the accelerator and reapply it to get controll back.
